Brothers and Sisters, those with Joshua who "first heard" the "good news" of how to enter the Sabbath and were not allowed to enter by oath for 40 years in the desert near the Promised Land, did not enter the "day" of rest during those 40 years, which Joshua later entered at an earlier time than the Seventh day in the Promised Land, but Joshua wrongly assumed this earlier time was the seventh day. In the following passage, another "day" refers to a different day than the one thought for the Sabbath since Joshua: not the seventh day of the week everywhere, but the seventh day of the first week of creation remembered in that time zone that falls in the Promised Land before the seventh day of the week. Judaism is wrong to think, since Joshua, that a day of the week is from evening to evening, as the sabbath falls in the Promised Land, when a day of the week is from morning to morning, as shown with Manna in the desert not allowing them to enter the Sabbath by keeping the seventh day for 40 years in the desert near the Promised Land.

So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.” Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. (Hebrews 4:6-11 NLT)

Brothers and Sisters, happy Sabbath! For those who think Sunday is important in the Bible: Sunday doesn't appear even once in the Bible. Wherever Sunday was supposed, the passage actually speaks from the point of view of Saturday as the most important day of the week. No translation has understood the "expression" of God: "the first of the Sabbaths". It does not refer to Sunday but to Saturday being the first Sabbath, another way of referring to the seventh day of the creation week. This is necessary because the Sabbath falls between two days of the week in the Promised Land as shown in the passage below. The Sabbath in the Promised Land falls and takes halves between Friday and Saturday, so you only get half of a Friday and half of a Saturday in the Promised Land, with a Sabbath taking halves between those two days, giving us the following order: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sabbath, and Saturday, the Sabbath being an eighth division in the seven-day week.

361381_ff7aae7ab7169d40699276fc6f90eac7.png

The "evening" ending the Sabbath in the Promised Land is part of Saturday, as shown in the passage below where God uses an "expression" that was not previously understood: "the first of the Sabbaths". This "expression" refers to the first Sabbath of creation week or another way of saying the seventh day of the week that we call Saturday. I will use Saturday for the seventh day as different from the Sabbath, which is separate from the seventh day in the Promised Land, to correct the translation of this "expression" of God. Here, "as it dawns beyond Saturday" refers to the end of the second half of Saturday, the night half from evening to morning, where Jesus rose on a Saturday night after the Sabbath in the Promised Land and before the morning begins Sunday, as the days of creation are corrected from human tradition since Joshua in Hebrews 3 and 4. In conclusion, Jesus rose on a Saturday night, after the Sabbath ended in the "evening" and before Sunday began in the "morning".

long after the Sabbath (evening), as it dawns beyond Saturday (morning), came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, to see the tomb. (Mathew 28:1, my own translation)

As a disclaimer this is not an SDA teaching and is unique to this poster. This is what the SDA church teaches of the Sabbath:

The gracious Creator, after the six days of Creation, rested on the seventh day and instituted the Sabbath for all people as a memorial of Creation. The fourth commandment of God’s unchangeable law requires the observance of this seventh-day Sabbath as the day of rest, worship, and ministry in harmony with the teaching and practice of Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day of delightful communion with God and one another. It is a symbol of our redemption in Christ, a sign of our sanctification, a token of our allegiance, and a foretaste of our eternal future in God’s kingdom. The Sabbath is God’s perpetual sign of His eternal covenant between Him and His people. Joyful observance of this holy time from evening to evening, sunset to sunset, is a celebration of God’s creative and redemptive acts. (Gen. 2:1-3; Exod. 20:8-11; 31:13-17; Lev. 23:32; Deut. 5:12-15; Isa. 56:5, 6; 58:13, 14; Ezek. 20:12, 20; Matt. 12:1-12; Mark 1:32; Luke 4:16; Heb. 4:1-11.)

Sister, I don't blame the church, this was hidden from us by a mistranslation. Many translations continue the error started by the King James Version (KJV)'s misidentification of Joshua as Jesus in Hebrews, chapter 4, when Jesus was not before David to make the "good news" of entering the Sabbath the "gospel" of Jesus. The wrong translation of "gospel" for the phrase the "good news" of entering the Sabbath has influenced wrongly many other Bible translations after the KJV. The newer NKJV fixes the misidentification of Joshua as Jesus but not its effect on the rest of the passage, like the "gospel" (not possible before David), for the phrase, the "good news" of entering the Sabbath, first heard by those that died in the desert. Those, like Joshua, who were not allowed to enter the Sabbath by "oath" near the Promised Land with Manna, that Joshua later entered before the seventh day of the week from evening to evening, having been prevented from entering the Sabbath with Manna for 40 years from morning to morning near the Promised Land. In the Hebrews passage, "another day" refers to a different day than the one thought for the Sabbath since Joshua: not the seventh day of the week everywhere, but the seventh day of the week of creation remembered in the time zone of creation.

Sister, I don't blame the church, this was hidden from us by a mistranslation.

Early Church Fathers who lived before the Council of Nicaea on the Sabbath:

Ignatius of Antioch

If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death—whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master(Letter to the Magnesians(shorter) Chapter IX.—Let us live with Christ [A.D. 110]).

During the Sabbath He continued under the earth in the tomb in which Joseph of Arimathæa had laid Him. At the dawning of the Lord’s day He arose from the dead, according to what was spoken by Himself, “As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” The day of the preparation, then, comprises the passion; the Sabbath embraces the burial; the Lord’s Day contains the resurrection(The Epistle of Ignatius to the Trallians Longer Versions. Chapter IX.—Reference to the history of Christ.)

Justin Martyr

The Lawgiver is present, yet you do not see Him; to the poor the Gospel is preached, the blind see, yet you do not understand. You have now need of a second circumcision, though you glory greatly in the flesh. The new law requires you to keep perpetual sabbath, and you, because you are idle for one day, suppose you are pious, not discerning why this has been commanded you: and if you eat unleavened bread, you say the will of God has been fulfilled. The Lord our God does not take pleasure in such observances: if there is any perjured person or a thief among you, let him cease to be so; if any adulterer, let him repent; then he has kept the sweet and true sabbaths of God. If any one has impure hands, let him wash and be pure.(Dialogue with Trypho the Jew Chapter XII.—The Jews violate the eternal law, and interpret ill that of Moses.)

For we too would observe the fleshly circumcision, and the Sabbaths, and in short all the feasts, if we did not know for what reason they were enjoined you,—namely, on account of your transgressions and the hardness of your hearts. For if we patiently endure all things contrived against us by wicked men and demons, so that even amid cruelties unutterable, death and torments, we pray for mercy to those who inflict such things upon us, and do not wish to give the least retort to any one, even as the new Lawgiver commanded us: how is it, Trypho, that we would not observe those rites which do not harm us, —I speak of fleshly circumcision, and Sabbaths, and feasts?(Dialogue with Trypho the Jew Chapter XVIII.—Christians would observe the law, if they did not know why it was instituted. [A.D. 155]).

And we afterwards continually remind each other of these things. And the wealthy among us help the needy; and we always keep together; and for all things wherewith we are supplied, we bless the Maker of all through His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday,1 all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need. But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.(First Apology Chapter LXVII.—Weekly worship of the Christians. [A.D. 155]).

“Wherefore, Trypho, I will proclaim to you, and to those who wish to become proselytes, the divine message which I heard from that man. Do you see that the elements are not idle, and keep no Sabbaths? Remain as you were born. For if there was no need of circumcision before Abraham, or of the observance of Sabbaths, of feasts and sacrifices, before Moses; no more need is there of them now, after that, according to the will of God, Jesus Christ the Son of God has been born without sin, of a virgin sprung from the stock of Abraham. For when Abraham himself was in uncircumcision, he was justified and blessed by reason of the faith which he reposed in God, as the Scripture tells. Moreover, the Scriptures and the facts themselves compel us to admit that He received circumcision for a sign, and not for righteousness.(The Second Apology of Justin for the Christians Addressed to the Roman Senate. Chapter XXIII.—The opinion of the Jews regarding the law does an injury to God.)

“As, then, circumcision began with Abraham, and the Sabbath and sacrifices and offerings and feasts with Moses, and it has been proved they were enjoined on account of the hardness of your people’s heart, so it was necessary, in accordance with the Father’s will, that they should have an end in Him who was born of a virgin, of the family of Abraham and tribe of Judah, and of David; in Christ the Son of God, who was proclaimed as about to come to all the world, to be the everlasting law and the everlasting covenant, even as the forementioned prophecies show.(The Second Apology of Justin for the Christians Addressed to the Roman Senate. Chapter XLIII.—He concludes that the law had an end in Christ, who was born of the Virgin.)

Tertullian

“[L]et him who contends that the Sabbath is still to be observed as a balm of salvation, and circumcision on the eighth day . . . teach us that, for the time past, righteous men kept the Sabbath or practiced circumcision, and were thus rendered ‘friends of God.’ For if circumcision purges a man, since God made Adam uncircumcised, why did he not circumcise him, even after his sinning, if circumcision purges? . . . Therefore, since God originated Adam uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, consequently his offspring also, Abel, offering him sacrifices, uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, was by him [God] commended [Gen. 4:1–7, Heb. 11:4]. . . . Noah also, uncircumcised—yes, and unobservant of the Sabbath—God freed from the deluge. For Enoch too, most righteous man, uncircumcised and unobservant of the Sabbath, he translated from this world, who did not first taste death in order that, being a candidate for eternal life, he might show us that we also may, without the burden of the law of Moses, please God”(An Answer to the Jews Chapter II.—The Law Anterior to Moses. [A.D. 203]).

no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death (Ignatius of Antioch, A.D. 110).
Brother, Jesus rose on Saturday night, after an evening ended the Sabbath in the Promised Land and before a morning began Sunday, because the days of the week are from morning to morning as God taught them with Manna during 40 years in the desert while preventing them from entering the Sabbath by "oath" making them keep the seventh day of the week near the Promised Land when the Sabbath is entered earlier from evening to evening in the Promised Land before the seventh day of the week. Every translation has mistakenly assumed that God's "expression": "the first of the Sabbaths" refers to Sunday when referring to Saturday, another way of referring to the seventh day of the creation week.

Another "day" of rest still to come refers to what?

Salvation rest in Jesus Christ, from our own work to save and in his work which saves, and which is entered only by faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning work (blood, Romans 3:25).

Brother, that's not a "day"! You are confusing two different uses of the word rest: the rest of the soul after Jesus due to Jesus' faster cycle of forgiveness as our High Priest in the heavenly temple instead of the slower animal sacrifices in the earthly copy which was not available to Joshua in the desert with the earlier "day" of rest established when God rested "after creating the world" known as the Sabbath to Joshua.

Brother, Canaan is not a day! Joshua, who led them to Canaan, did not give them the "day" of rest spoken of in the passage or God would not have spoken of another "day" of rest yet to come.

So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. Are you saying your salvation is based on your works?

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Are you saying your salvation is based on your works?
Brother, your salvation is based on your faith built on following what God wants you to do and not what humans would prefer you to do, following human traditions that substitute what God wants you to do. What leads to slavery to sin is not what God wants from you, but the substitute that humans would prefer you do, human traditions by "blind" guides. Humans are "blind" guides to follow, making their followers "into twice the child of hell you yourselves are". God can guide you because He is not a blind guide like humans are. You will not enter the kingdom of heaven by following human traditions, nor will you allow others to enter by promoting human traditions. Human traditions enslave people instead of freeing them from sin because they are "blind" guides that will lead everyone astray.

“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces. You won’t go in yourselves, and you don’t let others enter either. “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are! “Blind guides! What sorrow awaits you! For you say that it means nothing to swear ‘by God’s Temple,’ but that it is binding to swear ‘by the gold in the Temple.’ Blind fools! Which is more important—the gold or the Temple that makes the gold sacred? And you say that to swear ‘by the altar’ is not binding, but to swear ‘by the gifts on the altar’ is binding. How blind! For which is more important—the gift on the altar or the altar that makes the gift sacred? When you swear ‘by the altar,’ you are swearing by it and by everything on it. And when you swear ‘by the Temple,’ you are swearing by it and by God, who lives in it. And when you swear ‘by heaven,’ you are swearing by the throne of God and by God, who sits on the throne. (Matthew 23:13-22 NLT)

There is nothing about the blood of Jesus Christ in your comment above.

My faith is built on His works at Calvary.

What did Paul say below.

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

Brother, you say your faith is in Jesus, but you don't follow His words! Jesus frees us from the slavery of sin by separating sin from our character through the new birth of learning our way anew thanks to a cycle of forgiveness that is now done faster with Jesus as our High Priest in the heavenly temple than the slower animal sacrifices in the earthly temple "copy" before Jesus. What He started with Israel with the Ten Commandments is what He continues with the faster cycle of forgiveness from Jesus as our High Priest, as Jesus tells us in the following passage. This faster cycle of forgiveness allows us to "surpass" His previous Ten Commandments by Jesus adding an Eleventh Commandment. In fact, since Jesus obeyed the Ten Commandments and we are to "follow" His example in the Eleventh Commandment, all of the previous commandments are included in the Eleventh Commandment. Jesus' new commandment surpasses His previous commandments in the new covenant with an additional commandment that was not possible before Jesus: to "follow" His example.

Once a religious leader asked Jesus this question: “Good Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “Only God is truly good. But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother.’” The man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Luke 18:18-22 NLT)

Brother, you say your faith is in Jesus, but you don't follow His words!

What you are saying does not agree with the Apostle John in the passage below.

1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.

Brother, what Jesus said does not fit your human tradition of replacing God's commandments, but what Jesus said is what is found in the passage you mentioned about adding the new Eleventh Commandment to the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are summed up as showing love for God and neighbor in the two greatest commandments that tell us the goal and not how to achieve the goal like the actual Ten Commandments. This passage also summarizes all the commandments in the goal to "love one another", achieved by following Jesus' example in the Eleventh Commandment of how to love God and neighbor as Jesus showed us in how He lived His life in obedience to God's commandments and beyond giving His life for His friends, which is not found in any of the Ten Commandments.

Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty (thanks to Jesus' faster cycle of forgiveness), we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. And this is his commandment (the singular new Eleventh Commandment to follow Jesus' example): We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. Those who obey God’s commandments (the plural of all Eleven Commandments) remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us (the guarantied word of God by prophets) lives in us. (1 John 3:21-24 NLT)

Is God's rest from his work of creation only a day, or full-time?

It's God's rest we are promised.

Brother, God wants us to enter into His "day" of rest in the past, established when He rested on the seventh day after creating the world, the "day" of rest known as the Sabbath to Joshua, who mistakenly assumed the "day" of rest falls in the Promised Land on the seventh day, when for 40 years in the desert God taught them that keeping the seventh day of the week does not enter the "day" of rest near the Promised Land that Joshua later entered at an earlier time from evening to evening before the seventh day from morning to morning. Judaism's Sabbath is a human tradition that needs correction in the new covenant because Christians are living outside of the Promised Land when Judaism's human tradition is wrong about how to enter the Sabbath away from the Promised Land.

So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. You are overlooking Hebrews 4:3-4, where God's work is completed and his rest is full time, and Hebrews 4:8 where God set another day; i. e., "Today" (Psalms 95:7-8) for Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4:7-11).

Brother, what God tells us about the Sabbaths since that first Sabbath is that He is always at work. God wants us to enter into a "day" of rest that He undertook only on that first Sabbath when He made the world, because God's day of rest is a gift for us, which those who died in the desert were prevented from entering by "oath" for 40 years because of God's anger towards them. What you are called to do today is not to harden your heart against God's instructions like those who died in the desert. The "day" of rest is entered just as God rested from His work on the seventh day of creation week and God did not rest every day of creation week nor does He rest since that first Sabbath, as we are told by Jesus in the next passage.

So the Jewish leaders began harassing Jesus for breaking the Sabbath rules. But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” So the Jewish leaders tried all the harder to find a way to kill him. For he not only broke the Sabbath, he called God his Father, thereby making himself equal with God. (John 5:16-18 NLT)
