God created us so that we might have fellowship with Him. God’s desire is that we place our trust in him. God wants us to know that all we have to do is call on Him and He will fill our minds with His wisdom, fill our hearts with His love, and open the door to a whole new direction filled with hope and joy.

“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’” Jeremiah 33:2-3

Praying for Others

As followers of Jesus, we have great power in our ability to impact the lives of those around us with our prayers. Nothing warms the heart of God more than our honest concern for others. When we reach out to God with prayers for our family and friends, He attends to those needs first and foremost. Believers are directly connected to the power of God.

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

Pray Often

Our prayers can take on many forms. We can pray alone on our knees, holding hands in a small group, or in the seat of our car traveling to work. Where, when, and precisely how we pray is not as important as the frequency of our prayers. Prayer should be a never-ending dialogue with God. We should be praying in every situation.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Keep in Touch with God

Prayer is a personal conversation with God. We can have that conversation out loud with a group of family and friends, or we can have that conversation privately in a moment of silent reflection. Our prayers don’t always have to be filled with words; God knows what we are thinking. Prayers that are filled with feelings or even tears work just as well.

Three Prayer Tips

The book of Colossians offers a few good tips that may help you make your prayers more productive. A good way to start your prayer is with a request to God for a healthy dose of his boundless wisdom.

“Continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.” Colossians 1:9

Follow your request for wisdom with a request for clear direction in your effort to live your life in search of the will of God.

“Live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:10

And finish your prayer with sincere, heartfelt thanks for the awesome gift of eternal life in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

“Give joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:12

Move Closer to God

God wants to be the most important part of your life. God wants to show you extraordinary things that you can only realize in His presence. We optimize our connection to God with prayer. Prayer is the fuel that keeps our spiritual life growing and moving closer to God each and every day. Never stop praying. Constantly pursue a deeper relationship with God. Nothing will have a greater impact on your life.
