Context matters. Maybe looking into what those words really mean. No offense but not worth getting into when you take verses out of context. :) for one David said my flesh, I fear and on and on.
Wow, how many times have I been told that! Have you read
the New Testament? Jesus and the apostles quote scriptures
all the time. This is why in Acts the Bereans were said to be
more noble than the Thessalonians, because they searched
the scriptures daily to verify Paul's teaching. You have a Bible
in the next tab of your computer next to this forum cite.
How much of Psalm 119 do I have to quote for your context?
What is even more important is to take time to meditate on
the scripture and consider the application. Let's try that:

[David]
Psalm 119:120
My flesh trembles for fear of You,
And I am afraid of Your judgments.
Notice this is not some common statement about the fear of God,
such as in Proverbs. "the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom".
Here David says specifically "I am afraid of Your judgments."
A far cry from your distorted comment:
"David said my flesh, I fear and on and on."
It would take many threads to fully consider the context
of the role of God's judgment, as it is spoken of in the Gospel.
Here is one "out of context".

Colossians 3:25 But he who does wrong will be repaid
for what he has done, and there is no partiality.

Now you can be more noble and scrutinize the passage
more closely.

To me the Fear of God is a friend that seals my salvation, keeping me away from sin.

Jer 32
38 They shall be My people, and I will be their God; 39 and I will give them one heart and one way, so that they will fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them. 40 I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts, so that they will not turn away from Me.

The evidence of the lack of fear of God in many professing Christians is demonstrated by the immense popularity of so called Christian leaders who have acquired great wealth by lying to people about God. The leaders are boldly lying to their followers and the followers are willing to be lied to, and none of them seemed concerned about what God thinks.

Is is not time to take this admonition more seriously?
[Paul]
Philippians 2:
12
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed,
not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
13
for it is God who works in you both to will and to do
for His good pleasure.

Will you allow God to work into you what He Wills,
and do
what is well pleasing in His sight?
Our doctrine cannot be our own.

John 7:17 If anyone wills to do His will,
he shall know concerning the doctrine,
whether it is from God or I speak on My own.

Isaiah 1:
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed,
judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord:
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured
with the sword:
for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

so what does this mean to you?

fear and trembling because we are afraid God will destroy us?

or ...

fear and trembling as in (fear) reverence to understanding the amazing power and wisdom of the Lord and with that realization we tremble (with excitement)?

The genuine prophetic voice has a role in this and has been largely shut down.

John the Baptist had the Spirit of Elijah but never performed any miracles.

His focus was on seeing folks come to repentance.

This was also the focus of Elijah and many miss that.

It means exactly what the apostles spoke of many times over.
Examples:

Colossians 3:
23
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord
and not to men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward
of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done,
and there is no partiality.
Hebrews 2:
1
Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things
we have heard, lest we drift away.
2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,
3 how shall we escape if we neglect such great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard.

Thank you, that is all the questions I will be taking today.
Furthermore, I don't need to be given options to choose
from, such as the two you gave, one obviously being your
view. How disingenuous!
If you have a comment you would like to offer for our
edification, say on.

I think we tremble with reverence...

The two co-exist without contradiction.

It seems the fear that Satan was referring to in Job was not the Holy Fear of God.
Exactly. Satan is actually projecting his own self onto Job and therefore his own imagery of god, since he presumes to correct God's appraisal concerning Job by questioning Jobs motives. Wherefore, the fear/esteem of God as God, is not being exhibited in Satan.

I never said there's a contradiction, I said there are semantical differences between the fear of God and the perfect Love that casts out all fear.

I am in no way meaning to imply we have liberty to sin in Christ as if sin were liberty. I only mean to say that humility and seeking mercy are a good thing.

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

This is a great message. We do need to seek to purify ourselves pertaining to conforming to Christ, and I want to thank you for the exhortation to do exactly that. And I thank God for you and the love and courage you exhibit, to say the things we may not want to hear but need to hear because of our carnal self-seeking condition.

There definitely is a lack of fear of the Lord around the church now a days. But that’s due to a gigantic misunderstanding of grace. People have flipped Romans 6:1 on it’s head and misinterpret Ephesians 2:8-9. God’s grace doesn’t give us license to sin, nor does it mean that we have no part to play in our salvation.

I just completed a read through (and partial) study of Revelation and it is incredible how many times Jesus tells the churches to repent or else! He even mentions the Nicolaitans, who were a group that taught God’s grace gave them license to live however they wanted to live basically. Jesus specifically said that He hates… HATES those who do those works. Think about that. Jesus hates people who use His love and grace to give themselves license for unholiness and unrighteousness.

God’s grace is meant to lead us to repentance. Repentance being a complete turn from all sin, not just the ones we want to give up. It’s a death to our flesh so that we may live for God in the Spirit. We don’t hear that word often in churches anymore.

In fact, repentance is the message preached all throughout the scriptures, even the book of Acts. It’s the message of salvation. But instead now, you see whole denominations and groups that have substituted true biblical salvation with a message of convenience and leisure.

God wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable so just stay where you are. I will pray and if you agree with this prayer then you are saved. It’s absolutely mind boggling that no one (I don’t mean that number literally, but most) is told they must….. MUST repent!

Give up themselves so that God can send His Holy Spirit to give new life. That is why people struggle with sin, they won’t give up control of it to God. The church doesn’t teach about judgement anymore. Actually I just read about that this morning, such a convenient message.

2 Thessalonians 1:6-8
After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

This isn’t only talking about what we would consider to be “unbelievers”. An unbeliever is anyone who does not know God AND does not obey Him. How much of the church is full of unbelief? That should break our hearts. Go inside a church and preach true truth.

That Jesus will judge us according to our works and those who are found lacking will suffer for it. You will be cast aside and shooed off, because people have itching ears just as the Apostle prophecied.

Lord may you wake us up!
so in other words, works salvation, repent of sins and follow the law to be saved not faith in Jesus. I agree that your definition of salvation would be incredibly scary, wondering when you might lose your salvation, having to get it back again, then giving it away again, that would be entirely stressful existence.

Works-based salvation??? Blah, blah, blah.
If the thread was about salvation, it would have been posted
in that subforum. If the scriptures that are quoted are difficult
for your agenda, take it somewhere else. The topic is the role
of the fear of God in our ability to live a life that is pleasing
to the Father, in obedience to His Will. If that doesn't matter
to you, you are on the wrong thread.
Your comments are off topic.
repentance from all sins is a work, and yes his comment was about salvation
