Have any of you heard of the book and movie called 'Redeeming Love?" It is based on the Biblical story of Hosea, when God orders His servant to marry a prostitute. This novel takes place in the 1850s California gold rush, is about a man of God, Michael Hosea, a farmer, who prays for God to bring him a wife. The woman he sees in town that he believes is the one God sent, happens to be a prostitute at the local brothel.

This unfortunate woman has a tragic history, she was forced into prostitution as a child after her mother died. Her mother was the only person who ever showed her real love, and she died while the woman was a young child. The prostitute went by the name Angel. Angel had a hard time with real love, she mocked Christian faith and marriage. Michael showed her true love, most of all he showed her God's love. The book and movie is about Godly, spiritual love that is forgiving and changes, redeems hard hearts and that married love that is pure and kind is better than animal lust that has no deep feelings and compassion. Marriage is not slavery, prostitution is slavery, and God rescues her from an evil pimp who is a wicked cruel pedophile who terrorizes little girls. Angel helps out other young women who are prostitutes and want to reform and live a better life. She goes back to Michael and they have a little boy and one on the way, it shows her fishing with Michael with a pregnant belly and a little 3 or 4 year young boy.

I like the book by Francine Rivers, and I was delighted when I discovered there was a movie. it encourages me to write stories of my own and keep reading Christian authors.

I read the book and just recently saw the DVD on the shelf at our public library. Sounds great!

The book really opened my eyes to the story of the prophet Hosea and Gomer, I think it is.

There is another movie called 'Amazing Love,' that tells the Bible story of the prophet Hosea. The background story is that of a Christian teen youth group going camping. With the group is a teen girl not a member of the church. Her grandmother begged the youth minister to take her along. The girl's mother goes from boyfriend to boyfriend, her boyfriends give her gifts, usually expensive gifts; so the girl thinks love comes from material things and the lust of the eyes. The teens start to quarrel, then the youth leader gathers them around the camp fire and reads to them the story of Hosea.

The scene switches to old testament Bible times, where Hosea and his wife Gomer lives. Hosea goes to the temple to preach repentance and the Israelite people only laugh and make fun of him. They make fun of his wife and children, saying his wife is a prostitute and his children illegitimate. A 'friend' asks him why he is complaining when times are good, there is no war and everything is prosperous, there is a lot of money to be made. Hosea makes clay jars and gives them to his friend who sells them in the market place. Gomer his wife admires these beautiful bracelets she sees in the market place. Her husband Hosea says not to look at things they cannot have. Hosea is busy doing God's work.

One time he forgets to collect his pay from his business partner, so Gomer goes to do that.

A handsome young man grabs her and pulls her into an alley. he sweet-talks her,

Whoa, I like how when you put things in modern terms it makes it so much more real!
