I am a Christian and have been since my teens. I am a lay person but have taught adult bible classes for more than 40 years, now 70 years old. I have taught from church biblical periodicals but have come to the conclusion they simply are not as educational and effective as textual studies. These publication, books, quarterlies, etc. teach a particular belief of that church or person. In order to stay up with the lessons, very little discussion or study time can be devoted to a single lesson. So, learning the bible together is replaced with feeling and opinion. I feel as though many congregations are loosing the import of basic bible studying and are developing follows of people's teaching rather than biblical learning. I have come to this group to learn more from God's word! I understand we will not all agree. That's OK. Not all agreed in the 1st century because all come from different backgrounds and experiences. Thanks for allowing me to listen and learn.

Hi Christian by Faith, welcome to you. You've inspired me to make my own introduction to the forum. I joined a few months back and have been dipping in and out of certain threads here.

It's encouraging to have someone of your experience here, and I hope you will be able to contribute in a way that edifies others - as I'm sure you will.

I wholeheartedly agree with your recognition of other sources - other than the Bible - being a focus of learning. I've seen it in my church; it's almost as if the Bible is not good enough. I understand that certain churches may want to seem more current, or relative, but I feel it is a detriment to the living, breathing Word as found in the Bible.

I'm certainly no master of it, or anything much, truth be told. I'm a simple man who came to the Faith fairly recently, being baptized in 2013. After much convoluted soul searching, along with delving into other religions and esoteric doctrines, I finally came to experience the Power in the sheer humility of Christ.

So that's my introduction also. Glad to be here.
