"Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,..." 1 Timothy 4:1 NKJV

1 John 2:19
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.

There is the answer - they were tares.

which is exactly why some people end up doubting their salvation. Once saved always saved but if you fall away then you were never saved, so no one can truly know if they are saved or not which creates a doubt that causes people to lose their salvation.

1 Jn 5
God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

The saved who believe are to know they are saved.

You seem to suggest that one couldn't know if they were saved eternally.

John made it clear that among true believers that was normative to know one is saved..
How many posts have there been on this site where people are in fear because they think they might be part of those who were "never truly saved" I know I have seen many.

I agree, and this should not be - poor teaching reigns again... fueled by the 'you can loose your salvation' brigade.

Or is it caused by those who use it as an excuse when it becomes clear that not all who are saved elect to remain saved and so it becomes obvious that once saved always saved does not seem to hold up to the test of time. Thus they explain it by saying well they were never saved to begin with.

No - the scripture is strong on His ability to keep us from falling.

If you can walk away from Christ in this life (by your own free will) then why couldn't you walk away from Christ (by your own free will) in eternity? What makes free will different once life here on earth ends?
Sanctification in paradise is much better than on Earth, there is no walking away from something that good and with so much knowledge, all knowledge. Waves of light and love, and not confusion, deception or temptation or threat.

Eventually because of Jesus' power, His victory over all sins power and over death, we will accept a power of free will with all knowing so we will never fall, despite free will.

It's so because of Satan's complete evil, and Jesus' complete superiority, the latter freely welded into us.

In this life by free will we can forfeit salvation.

Not when we surrender our will to Him and are indwelled by His Spirit.

This life is our second chance, there is no third chance.

We lose our salvation by grieving away the Holy Spirit. When we stop allowing the Spirit to guide us by hardening our heart from His Truth.

There's really nothing saying that something like that could happen in the afterlife. If we look at Jude and the Revelation:

Jde 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;

Rev 12:7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,

There was a war in heaven and the angels themselves rebelled against God. I don't know for certain if that means people who go on the heaven could also rebel but it's something worth looking at. But it's probably best to look at your question in the here and now. A person can forfeit their salvation through sin or apostasy.
through sin? are you saying youre without sin? continued sin is inevitable for everyone. the only difference is me and you have the atonement.

As long as you have responded to His conviction with repentance you have nothing to worry about.
I feel there is a need for a Pastor in a church of much out pouring, has to keep an eye on things so no one is made bitter... rather than thinking nothing can go wrong. Because of what I have been through.

As for me, I live my life in a continuous state of unrepentant mortal sin. Now that we have that out of the way.

What does the new testament say about sins committed after baptism?

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

Heb 10:27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

And then:

1Jo 5:16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.

And finally:

Rom 11:21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.

So, if we sin willfully there is only an expectation of judgement; if you see your brother committing a mortal sin you're not even to pray for him; and then the statement "...He may not spare you either".

So what is all this business about sin?

Hard to respond unless you can be more specific.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

I hope this helps to answer that Does Hebrews 10:26 mean that a believer can lose salvation? | GotQuestions.org

This is the people who Jesus talked about in Matthew 7 '21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’'

Read the wheat and tares parable.

They have the knowledge, but no faith. They might look saved on outside but they are still living in sin.
