Spanking sounds so much less violent doesn't it? What about slap? Does that seem a little bit harsher?

One man's spank is another's slap.

Both are beating, once you strip away the euphemism.
And rape is just procreation.

yes, no matter what one calls it, it is still hitting

a big person hitting a little person

a big person who hasn't taken the time to check out various methods of discipline which can teach children

instead they resort to punishment on little children
punishment doesn't teach correct behavior; just forces the child to stop what they're doing at the moment

-we did time-ins (not time-outs)

-extra rocking when I could sense child was getting restless, about to get into some kind of trouble

-positive parenting... saying yes more than no

-modeling good behavior

-catching child doing "good behavior" and praising them
vs parents who only catch "bad behavior"

-daily hugs to enforce bond between parent/child
a child close to parents, more likely to please a parent

-always follow through with what we said/expected
i.e. at crowded zoo, when child wouldn't stay with us, we said we would leave if happened again
child ran off again & we left immediately

-"showing" child what is expected

-we played a lot & did crafts
play is the learning for children
we didn't send child to school 'til age 6 to give an extra year with us, her family
best thing we ever did

-good nutrition & enough sleep

All good. Beating children - not so much.

I wonder how many Americans know that hitting children is an assault in law. You can't 'spank' an adult except in certain conditions of consensual behaviour.

A few decades ago a bunch of psycho-ologists decided that “spanking” was abusive and began advocating that parents should not spank their kids, ever. Now, we have a generation that tears down national monuments, overruns police precincts, defunds the police, and runs amok in the streets with guns disdaining any kind of authority.

It’s not really about chaos verses order or socialistic verses democratic. There is an erosion of the primal need for crime and punishment, the idea of actions having consequences. The concept of “Crime and punishment” is vital to the Christian process. Without the understanding of a crime or offense being committed and the need for consequences or punishment as a result, there can be no grace or mercy. Without grace there is no Gospel. We choose to respond to the call of the Holy Spirit to salvation in Christ in part because we are made aware that we deserve punishment; we deserve to go to hell, the ultimate spanking if you will. Heb 12:11, prov 13:24, rev 3:19

spanking teaches nothing
that has nothing to do with people running amok

what changed is the family unit
mothers used to be sahms and now most work
kids are in daycare which has been proven to make kids more aggressive

read article by an expert who said "do not send kids to daycare"...it's not good for kids to learn from their peers at those young ages, he said

My son was diagnosed with moderate to severe ADD. He was born with a masters degree in naughtiness. Seriously, he was an artist. I, therefore, had to be very careful to ensure that the punishments I devised for him were for him and reflected a properly measured response rather than a venting of my irritation or a reflection of my frustration. After many battles and a river of tears, I discovered that standing in a corner for just 5 minutes to an ADD child is like spending a week in the depths of Gehenna as is evidenced by his own words: “Aww Dad, couldn’t you just spank me?!”
