Should women be forced to go to war?

You missed my point.

Besides this is about registering for the draft, not being drafted, so your comment is moot.

Your point is irrelevant. The US military has been an all-volunteer force for 47 years, yet has fought many wars since then. A draft is not necessary without a war, and hasn't been necessary for any of the wars the US has fought in the last half century.

Congress is certainly not going to begin drafting for absolutely no practical reason.

Your point is irrelevant.

Which is precisely why the US ended conscription on December of 1972, although the Selective Services Act, more commonly known as "The Draft," remains mandatory to this day.

Many people use "conscription" and "the Draft" interchangeably, but they are two separate things.

"Conscription" is involuntary induction into the armed services, whereas "the draft" is the means by which people are chosen... or would be, in the event conscription is ever reinstated in this country.

Women are allowed to enter the Armed Forces voluntarily, and many have seen combat -- I see no reason to change that. And as I see the reintroduction of conscription about as likely as the reintroduction of Prohibition, I see no problem with including women in the Selective Services Act.

Should they be sent to war against their will? No more than anyone else -- so I disagree with the GOP senators (as I often do), but vote "No" on the poll question as it is written.

There's no point to registration if there isn't going to be a draft, and there is no reason for the US to return to a draft. Or conscription, if you want to make that distinction.

Show me where I said there will be a draft?

Be sure to vote in the equally meaningless poll

I would say there's no sensible reason to return to conscription... But sensibility is often a goal, occasionally an obstacle, but seldom a feature, of governments.

Which means Selective Service is strictly a "worst case" scenario. As it is a meaningless gesture, including women would be equally meaningless, and therefore harmless.

“Women have served in and alongside the Armed Forces since our nation’s founding,” the lawmakers wrote. “While American men are required to register for the military draft and fight if needed, these requirements have never been applied to American women. Where they have fought, they have done so freely.”

“This approach has served our nation well, and it retains broad bipartisan support,” they said.

Mr. Hawley, Missouri Republican, was joined in the letter by Sens. Tom Cotton and John Boozman of Arkansas, Marco Rubio of Florida, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger F. Wicker of Mississippi, Steve Daines of Montana, Mike Lee of Utah, Ted Cruz of Texas and James E. Risch of Idaho.

Well I never voted for women's lib, I don't want to be drafted! I Don't think women should be drafted at all. But I can understand why some people might say you can't have your cake and eat it too. Some women want to be treated equal to men in every single aspect but don't want to be drafted. I've never been one to say women are equal to men in all things. There are differences, God created it that way. Women are supposed to be nurturers and men are the ones who fight and defend.

....as long as men are required to register for the Selective Service, I see no reason why women should be excluded. Given the sorry physical state of today's young men, the nation would probably need women. I served with women in the army (non-combat) in the 1980's.... I find it hard to believe this is controversial today...

As others have noted, registering does not mean one will be assigned to a combat position in the unlikely event the US government implements the draft. It's even less likely as the military explores using robots, remote vehicles, etc...

Wrong. Aside from what is glaringly obvious to even the the most casual observer, it's a scientific fact that men are different from women. I can readily distinguish the difference, even among other species.

Take for example chickens, the hens are broody, and nest on their eggs. Then they nurture the chicks. The tend to be docile. Roosters tend to be far more aggressive A good rooster will defend a hen to the death. They're built for it. They're bigger than hens.

Did you know that male humans have denser muscle mass than women? Men don't have to work nearly as hard to be stronger than women. It's genetic.

What's the difference between dropping the bomb, or calling in the air strike?

What's the difference between getting bombed on the front line, or getting bombed at the command center that calls in the air strikes?

If we have a robot army; then why not do away with the draft.

Chickens? Muscles? How many muscles does it take to remote control a drone? Good thing guys have all those muscles or they may not be able to push those buttons. The days of bayonet fighting in the trenches is pretty much over.

Martha McSally disagrees with you.

Then what need we of a draft?
