Not even sure, why this is in Wall Street journal opinion section, when the article seems to be mostly based on factual stuff... Is it because it is controversial for Democrats?

(Synopsis/title of the accompanying video linked in the article)
"Her 2016 campaign manager says she approved a plan to plant a false Russia claim with a reporter."

Opinion | Hillary Clinton Did It

"In Short, the Clinton Campaign, created the Trump-Alfa allegation, fed it to an credulous press, that failed to confirm the allegations, but ran them anyway, then promoted the story as if it were legitimate news.

The campaign then delivered the claims to the FBI, giving journalists another excuse to portray the allegations as serious and perhaps true".

(So this is basically a 180 degree difference in how the media dealt with the Hunter Biden lap top where factual hard evidence was actually ignored and assumed and labeled as disinformation).

other folks also talking about the significance of the Sussman trial

https://thehill.com/opinion/judicia...llary-clintons-role-in-the-alfa-bank-scandal/

Jimmy Dore is covering things really well (the inspiration for the thread), and has managed to not cuss so far! I think Russel brand may have also covered it but also has the problem of cussing too. I am looking for Viva Frei videos covering it. He does some great work, right now however he seems to be lumping it in with other topics like the Johnny Depp Trial, Elon Musk and Twitter etc. in his live streams.

It also is funny the actual names of the people involved in the trial. Mook, Sussman and Natasha.

Mook is slang for a lackey, especially in mob stuff. Sus is suppose to be zoomer slang for a suspicious person, so a Sussman is literally a suspicions man, and Natasha, well anybody remember the old Rockie and Bullwinkle cartoon that had the characters Boris and Natasha?

Is there any way we can put this to bed? Everyone knows the Trump family has deep ties to Russian investments. He laundered for the Ologarts through real estate. Knowingly or not knowing they used him and then when he became president they abused him. I do hope we are smarter than this and one day connect the dots. Hillary is not one of those dots. :sigh:

It's labeled opinion because it's not exactly factual in its suggestion. There is no evidence that Hillary created a Trump Alfa allegation. Please note that it won't say there were no such look ups from the Alfa bank server to a Trump owned server. That is because it is a fact that there were.

Elsewhere in another omission of clarity, there are reports claiming that the FBI said they looked into it and there was nothing there. That is true depending on how one qualifies there was nothing there. What really happened is that the the FBI did investigate the look ups from the Alfa server to a Trump owned server because they did factually exist so in that sense something was there. They surmised that it was implausible that it could be a means of communicating, and in that sense there was nothing there as pertains to evidence of a back channel of communication between Trump and Russia.

Pretty weak stuff - have you actually read the original Slate article cited? It’s a long series of comments from different computer scientists on what the initial data might have meant, and doesn’t draw any definite conclusions about anything. There’s nothing more here than duelling opinion pieces and a lot of over-excited imaginations.

The Hill has a video on it too.

I watched the video. It was mostly conjecture and some insinuation. Of course it makes sense that Hillary signed off on letting the media get wind of this Alfa bank server mystery, because it would help her campaign. But that has nothing to do with the investigation into Russian interference in the election.

From how these stories are presented, it seems to me that these stories are trying to persuade some voters, that the investigation into Russian interference (operation hurricane) was initiated because Hillary Clinton fabricated the Steele dossier and the Alfa bank story.

I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like someone wants to erase from history the fact that Putin was helping Trump, and had a motive, because Trump was open to removing sanctions on Russia and letting Russia keep Crimea. The fact remains that the Trump campaign knew Putin was helping Trump and they welcomed it.

it was mostly the conservative media that covered it

Are you basing that on anything more than a vague recollection? Does a search of what gets referred to as the ‘MSM’ media not bring anything up? You can use relevant search terms on any of the main media sites to find out.

yes, that is why I used the words "I remember"

anyway, I just did a search and come up with this nypost article

Bill Maher mocks 'left-wing media' for reporting on Hunter Biden laptop

are you able to give me any examples of mainstream media outlets who covered this when it first broke?

If able to involves typing key terms into a search box, pressing enter and using a scroll wheel, then yes I can't really say I feel too challenged by that. This, as one example, is from WAPO on the same day as the NY Post broke the story: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/10/14/hunter-bidens-alleged-laptop-an-explainer/

You can quite easily find other stories tracking developments over the last 18 months or so. Really not difficult at all.

according to nypost, the story it first broke was that the emails were authentic, it took Washington Post until March 30 2022 to verify that, at least in part

Washington Post admits Hunter Biden laptop is real

Washington Post admits Hunter Biden laptop is real
Nb. authenticity is not certain, WAPO concluded some of the copied content they got is probably legit, but it's hard to be definitive about it because the HDD was accessed so many times buy different people, e.g.

“The experts found the data had been repeatedly accessed and copied by people other than Hunter Biden over nearly three years,” our report explained, with those we spoke with being unable to “reach definitive conclusions about the contents as a whole, including whether all of it originated from a single computer or could have been assembled from files from multiple computers and put on the portable drive.”

For example:

“[An expert] also found records on the drive that indicated someone may have accessed the drive from a West Coast location in October 2020, little more than a week after the first New York Post stories on Hunter Biden’s laptop appeared.”

“Over the next few days, somebody created three additional folders on the drive, titled, ‘Mail,' ‘Salacious Pics Package’ and ‘Big Guy File’ — an apparent reference to Joe Biden.”
