"The schism has been healed. Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate in Belgrade has accepted back into its fold the ‘Macedonian Orthodox Church - Archbishopric of Ohrid’ with its some 1.5 million believers. The full Eucharistic and canonical Communion has been reestablished after 55 years of schism.

In 1967 Yugoslav Communist Party forced the Church in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia to unilaterally separate from the Serbian Orthodox Church. The Synod of the Church in North Macedonia has sent a letter of acceptance of its widest autonomy granted in 1959 within the borders of the Patriarchate in Belgrade and has asked to be taken back into the Orthodox Catholic Church.

In return, the Serbian Church has promised it has no geopolitical pretensions or ambitions in North Macedonia. The Orthodox Patriarchate in Belgrade will immediately start the process of granting Autocephaly to the Church in North Macedonia.

The Belgrade Patriarchate will not ask of Macedonians to surrender their diaspora to the Constantinople Patriarchate or any other. The Belgrade Patriarchate advice that the Greek Churches and the Macedonian Church to negotiate the future official name of the Church in North Macedonia that will soon be granted Autocephaly (Self-Governing).

The Belgrade Patriarchate will consider Autocephaly granted once all Orthodox Autocephalous Churches ratify the new Sister Church in North Macedonia. From this day forth, all Orthodox Christians may receive the Sacraments from the Macedonian Orthodox Church - Archbishopric of Ohrid in North Macedonia and their diaspora dioceses.

The Archbishop of Ohrid and Metropolitan of Macedonia will be Stefan, the current Metropolitan of the "Macedonian Orthodox Church - Archbishopric of Ohrid". Archbishop Stefan will commemorate Liturgically His Holiness Porphyrios, Metropolitan of Belgrade and the Patriarch of the Serbian and Coastal Lands.

Macedonian Bishops will annually attend the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchate in Belgrade until given full Autocephaly. Macedonian Bishops will take part in governing of the Serbian Orthodox Church via the Council of Bishops, and in the case of the death of the Belgrade Patriarch, will elect the new Patriarch or be elected.

Macedonian Church will accept into its fold the bishops and clergy of the Belgrade Patriarchate in North Macedonia led by Archbishop John, who served there before the healing of schism. The property of two jurisdictions in North Macedonia will merge in the future."

I don't like how it makes it sound like the schism ended because it was Constantinople's decision. I don't think Serbia said anything like that.

This here exactly is why I find this "reunion" worrisome.

The issues between the so-called Macedonian Orthodox Church and the Patriarchate of Serbia are for those two to hash out. Just like how ROCOR was not in full Communion with world Orthodoxy until they reunited and solved their issues with the Patriarchate of Moscow.
This is the EP acting like an Orthodox Pope through and through. Little good can come out of this outside meddling.

Plus their former schismatic action is being rewarded with autocephaly. At the very least have they written a letter of repentance for their persecution of the canonical bishop? Didn't they also at one point seek communion with the Catholic Church? I don't see any evidence of repentance for their former actions.

I thought I saw that they were granted autonomy under Serbia.

The link posted by F.E.A.R. says Belgrade will immediately start the process of granting them autocephaly.

Note that the article he links to is from May 10, written after Constantinople's decision on May 9. So it doesn't reflect the reality after yesterday's decision from the Serbian Church.

didn’t Constantinople also say that they would get all diaspora parishes, and Serbia basically said no?

Yeah that's how the article states. I don't know the deep Church politics, but without the agreement of the Serbian Church, Constantinople can't grant autocephaly.

Please remember that the name agreed on is North Macedonia, even though that is still a communist fiction. Macedonia proper is the northern region of Greece.
Let's not talk about politics and history. In former Yugoslavia and USSR, history was taught different unlike what's talked about now, even something like Kosovo being Albanian when it isn't. Also for your clarification, nobody, I mean nobody calls that region "Macedonian", either we say Northern Greece or just Greece.

The link posted by F.E.A.R. says Belgrade will immediately start the process of granting them autocephaly.
Rumors are that autocephaly is in the talks, that it will be granted, but who knows when. I don't think it will happen fast.

The article is right, the thing is, not many articles in English have the correct information. It's more "misinformed".
The Serbian Church will give autocephaly but not immediately, because autocephaly was talked even back in Yugoslavia, but there were reasons why it was never granted, mainly because of politics and not Church canons. Something that's not talked about. In one of the statements by Patriarch German, he said that there will a Macedonian Church when that state comes to existence.

And when I meant by politics, I meant by Greece, we couldn't care less, neither, Romanians and Russians. We don't have a problem, it's Greece that has the only problem, we don't care.

Greeks call that region "Macedonia". The ancient Macedonians were Greeks, not Slavs.

Unfortunately people only care when it impacts them directly. The Slavs of 'North Macedonia' have been fed lies for three generations and are convinced that they are the descendants of the ancient Macedonians. It is a shame you don't care. The Greeks supported the Serbs when falsehood was being spread about Kosovo.

I know what Greeks call it. It's just that nobody outside of Greece calls it "Macedonia". I beg to differ, but that 3000 years ago history is quite complicated, and I know from my friends who studied history and the academic professors. Also for your records, Slavs settled way down to Thessaloniki (Solun), and the ancient Macedonians got mixed with the Slavs just like the ancient Illyrian tribes mixed with the Slavic settlers. Or like the tatar tribes of the east of Russia that got mixed with Russians and now call them selves Russians, I wouldn't call it assimilation, but more like absorbed, because countries and nationalism did not exist back then.

I cannot call someone "brother" who says brother to me in my face, yet bashes the Macedonians for being Slavic. In the Greek constitution of 1800's, if memory serves, I will paraphrase "Slavs are enemies of the Greeks and are inferior". It's not just Greeks, but also Englishmen, Germans and other Westerners looking down on Slavic people, calling them uneducated and barbaric and only looking to take and sleep with our women.

Yes, unfortunately it's how it works and it's called geopolitics, what interests me the most, what I have the most use of. Honestly not defending them, but saying it that they've been fed lies is outright not true. I'm not a nationalist, but I am a patriot, also reality is that Kosovo is lost, nothing can do against the USA.

Thank God that schism is getting healed, and seems like the only ones who are not happy are those who hate the country because of X reasons. I'm also ending this here because I don't want to discuss politics for the great news that has come.

All the archaeological finds in the region from before the time of King Philip and through to long after Alexander the Great are Greek. I don't know how your academic professors would determine if there was any Slavic culture seeing as they didn't have a written language until Cyril and Methodius. There is not a shred of evidence that the ancient Macedonians were anything but Greek.
The Balkans is a huge melting pot. It does not change the fact that ancient Macedonia was ethnically and culturally Greek.
I cannot call someone "brother" who says brother to me in my face, yet bashes the Macedonians for being Slavic. There was no "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" until near the end of the 20th century, and it was created with support from communist Russia so they could make claims on the historical region of Macedonia (which has changed many times over the centuries) to give the USSR access to a warm water port. That was when the decades of propaganda began.
Thank God that schism is getting healed, and seems like the only ones who are not happy are those who hate the country because of X reasons. I'm also ending this here because I don't want to discuss politics for the great news that has come.
I don't hate them. There are two families from 'North Macedonia' in our parish and I love them dearly. I am sad they they cling to the propaganda they were raised with. They have their own history which has been lost to them so the only historical identity they have now is the lie they were taught by the communists. I hope that there is genuine repentance from the hierarchs of Ohrid and this is not simply political manoeuvring of the EP.

Today on the 24th of May, St. Cyril and Methodius, Patriarch Porfirije and archbishop Stefan celebrated liturgy in the Church of St. Clement of Ohrid in Skopje. Patriarch Porfirije approves of autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church.

- The Patriarch "Thanks to your prayers we've established union, and now my brothers and sisters we bring you more joyful news, the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church unanimously to the demand of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the Synod of our Church blesses and approves the autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church"

There will be an act of ceremonial declare.

- "After that, every Orthodox Church in communion will be informed, for them through canons to accept the autocephal status of the Macedonian Orthodox Church"
