I find that CRT goes backwards, against the ideals that Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream about.
In many ways, yes, it does go backwards, but I think that's partially by design.
Not saying the theories are right or wrong.
But if you're someone who believes that the current systems are outgrowths of the old ones, and that the "okay, everything's even steven moving forward" is flawed, than it's reasonable that a person of that mindset would say "no, everything being equal on a moving forward basis isn't solving any problems, because we were already handicapped by what happened before"
I've used the analogy of a boxing match.
If we have Joe boxing Mike, and for the first 6 rounds we tie Joe's one hand behind his back and let Mike clobber him, and then have a change of heart and say "okay, we were wrong...it wasn't right to do that, so starting in round 7, we'll untie Joe's hand and let it be fair"
Some are going to say "hey wait a minute, Joe's already got a broken nose and an eye swelled shut for the first 6 rounds, Mike's going to have an advantage now no matter what even if the rules are equal starting round 7".
...and they wouldn't be wrong.
The issue would be if the people pointing out that flaw started getting a little loose with the accuracy surrounding the events, and start putting the blame on people who didn't deserve it, attributing motives to people who had nothing to do with it, and claiming that anyone who shares some immutable characteristic with the perpetrators is somehow complicit.
I think the modern incarnations of CRT we see today is the result of Black activists and groups getting fed with the fact that all of their previous (much more moderate proposals) have been shut down.
