Any advice? I say a bunch of rote prayers and feel inadequate. I tend to be scrupulous.

It's all good! I am worried about not thanking God enough for his beautiful GraceSorry!
I can! Thanks for your beautiful response.Hi Riley, I will be more than happy to share my Catholic view point on the Holy Eucharist at mass and showing love for Jesus.
Many of us stay after wards, to continue to worship Jesus, and there are many in the pews and at the altar rails-all of us kneeling down.
Some are saying the rosary, some are saying divine mercy, some are just on their knees head bowed and hands clasped, doing a deep praying devotion of their choosing.
Some go up to the altar rail to kneel down before the cross and tabernacle, others go to the Marian shrine and pray there on bended knee.
Still others walk from station to station, silently praying the stations of the cross.
Others quietly read a prayer book or other spiritual reading in their pews.
What ever deep love and devotion that you want to give to Jesus, you can give both during mass and then in the after mass quiet prayer time.
Riley, there is just something about being down on ones knees that can make a big difference as well, when it comes to showing love to our Savior.
I recommend preparing to partake in the Holy Eucharist by spending quality time at home with the Lord, through deep prayer, especially lectio divino, and listening to His voice.
By developing a very close relationship with Him through prayer at home, the going to receive Him at mass brings such sweet joy and peace.
Another strategy for me is to pray the Anime Christi prayer after communion, but to quiet sing it in my heart as I learned how to do that by worshiping at home with this prayer, on a video I liked.
Its not scrupulous to be so in love with the Lord, that the 10 minutes of going up and coming back would seem as not enough, and you have so much in your heart to give Him.
Can you stay afterwards?
Well first of all we are not unto ourselves worthy but He made us worthy.Any advice? I say a bunch of rote prayers and feel inadequate. I tend to be scrupulous.

It's ok to pray.I keep saying the Anima Christ and Prayer of Saint Francis over and over again. God forgive me if I sound insincere.
thanks for the encouragementGod knows your heart Riley. Better than you know it yourself. Believe me, God knows how thankful you are.
Thanks. I haven't read much of St. John of the Cross because I heard he is incredibly difficult to read. Thanks for the suggestion. I tend to have a very "noisy" mind.It sounds like you need to learn how to do Contemplative Prayer, or Prayer of Quiet.
After receiving Communion, just silently turning within where Christ dwells, helps to
move our souls toward the spiritual marriage St John of the Cross wrote about.

Thanks. I have "dark night of the soul" but have not read it yetHe's easy to read if you're ready.
If not allow the Holy Spirit to guide you.
Thanks. I have "dark night of the soul" but have not read it yet
thanks! I just need to trust Jesus more.Few souls go through the "Dark Night of the Soul."
Most have already reached union with Christ, but are now left
without feeling his presence or his guidence.
It's most likely you're just going through boredom.
