The Electric Reliability Council of Texas [ERCOT] is asking electricity consumers to keep their thermostats at 78 degrees or above and avoid using large appliances between 3 and 8 p.m. from Friday through Sunday.

April and May are referred to as “shoulder months” in the energy world. That’s the time of year when power plants go offline in order to conduct necessary maintenance and other repairs before the hot summer months. [Except that the heat has arrived now.]

ERCOT, however, has recently told multiple power generation companies to delay maintenance on their equipment so the grid could keep up with the hotter-than-usual temperatures recently, which in turn leads to elevated demand for power when Texans crank their air conditioners.

I hope Ted Cruz is concerned that Texas is now unable to perform even basic functions of civilization, like having reliable electricity.

These come to mind:

Two Kinds of Wisdom
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
~James 3:13-18 (NIV)

18 Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.
~Proverbs 16:18 (NIV)

21 The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
~Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)

Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
~Psalm 1 (NIV)

The full context of the following Scripture is about blasphemy of The Holy Spirit. However, these specific verses still apply to this situation:

25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.
~Matthew 12:25 (NIV)

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
~Matthew 12:33-37 (NIV)

Some might see the chronic effects of greed, incompetence and general stupidity. The real story of course is patriots being saved from using tainted communist electricity! Make America use alternate forms of heating and food preservation again (MAUAFoHaFPA).

Is ERCOT still isolated/self-contained? What a bunch of morons. I love my home state, but they're still a bunch of morons. They still have that lingering pride in the illusion that they could be a country again and not work with their neighbors. ^_^ That seems to be working.

I support Texas becoming its own country again.

I understand the sentiment. Texas is a thorn in this country's side, so to speak.

Wow, that wasn't even sarcasm, and I could tell.

When citizens continue to elect leaders who are beholden to money and corporations over citizens' own self-interests you'll see this nonsense in Texas and other states. Voters must accept $5000/month electric bills and losing electricity when the grid fails. At least they get to sue people who have abortions. Those culture war items are very important I reckon. If Texans want change they'll need to change some voting habits. Apathy doesn't work. Voting for letters doesn't work. Politicians will continue to exploit those who allow it.

I’m from Texas and May is no "shoulder month."
