I guess I have the outsider perspective... it's hard not to see this as anything but government endorsement of a particular religion.
Just fly a Flying Spaghetti god flag, then. Or the last flag of the Confederate States of America.

In other words, two Senators who knew the meaning of governance.

Governance means accomplishing nothing if you control everything and preventing the other side from doing anything if you don't.

Breyer noted that nothing prevents Boston from changing its policies to exclude private speech going forward. It could—like San Jose, Calif.—explicitly say that flags are the city's speech and not intended to serve as a forum for free expression by the public. It could even require that a city council member sponsor a flag before it can be raised.

Boston suspended its policy last fall when the Supreme Court agreed to review the current policy, so all of these options are on the table now.

Do you have any substantive reasons why you think that is?

Maybe it's just me being cynical, but many of the people (on the GOP side) that seemed to hate McCain all of the sudden, seemed to be because of Trump making him out to be some sort of "bad guy" when they had supported McCain just a few years prior.

McCain got the same treatment from Trump as guys like Jeff Sessions. Life long conservatives having it implied that they're "not really conservative" or a "sellout" by a guy who only joined the republican party in 2012, for the cardinal sin of disagreeing with him 2 or 3 times. The same reason people in the GOP have turned on Romney despite ardently defending him 10 years ago.

But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt...do you have any long-held objections to McCain's character or reasons for thinking he's corrupt that pre-date 2016?

Yes, that's it. They didn't kowtow and kiss the ring of the Democrat and former Clinton and Epstein buddy that the Party scrapped out of the New York sewer and rebranded as a Republican. Running a Democrat was the only way they could beat Hillary Clinton and she still got the popular vote.

Nope. The article you posted clearing said that the Vietnamese called him a songbird. They were reporting what another party said, not themselves claiming it.

Where in the article does it say the Vietnamese called him a "songbird," as you claim? I see it within the headline used by the NY Daily News. Think about it, why in the world do you think the North Vietnamese would refer to an American prisoner who was providing information as a "songbird?"

A unanimous decision essentially means Boston didn't really have a case to begin with. What surprises me is that Boston's lawyers couldn't see this coming long ago.

You mean that their lawyers couldn't have seen a insane ruling that helps break down church state separation?

It appears that Boston had been allowing every other group of every kind, including every other religion that so desire, to fly a flag except Christians.

So how is that a government endorsement of a particular religion?

can you give examples? The one used in the case was a COUNTRIES flag.

You mean that their lawyers couldn't have seen a insane ruling that helps break down church state separation?

“The city did not deny a single request to raise a flag until, in 2017 Harold Shurtleff … asked to fly a Christian flag. Boston refused,” he [Justice Breyer] wrote, noting that Boston approved about 50 unique flags raised at 284 ceremonies between 2005 and 2017.

Breyer also noted the city’s stated concern that flying such a flag might amount to a separate First Amendment violation: government endorsement of a certain religion.

“We conclude that, on balance, Boston did not make the raising and flying of private groups’ flags a form of government speech. That means, in turn, Boston’s refusal to let Shurtleff and Camp Constitution raise their flag based on its religious viewpoint 'abridge[ed]' their 'Freedom of speech,'" wrote Breyer.

Boston’s flag rejection violated Christian group's First Amendment rights, Supreme Court rules (wgbh.org)
