I was browsing a dating site, and had come across this profile of a Christian woman, who had a ton of tats, one of her profile photos had a meme saying: Jesus loves me, and my tattoos!" and apparently a pastor at her church.

Now, I grew up among Christians that a woman who wears ink or at least that much ink (sleeve tats and such) were seen as rather sketchy characters.

They are a typically a flavor of Christian that have came out of the....system, if you catch my meaning as we have a church here that caters to only that. If you see their pictures online, people that have come out of the jail or prison trying to recover....which is commendable.

But would they necessarily be compatible with some of us vanilla Christians?

If she's got that many tattoos, she probably prefers guys with at least as many tattoos anyway.

Well, there seems to be a trend of tatted up people no matter what their belief system these days.

Personally I find tattoos, male and female, repulsive. I'm old and not used to it.

I'm not sure that modern tattoos can be described as “You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.” (Leviticus 19:28). Some take it that way, others do not. Some would also say that the prohibition is OT and no longer applies. So it's a matter of conscience. I think it's vital not to treat tattooed Christians any differently from those who are not.

O! People like these are why I almost gave up church as a new Christian. The judgement and bad looks.

Thankfull for me and many many others, God doesn't think the way you do. :)

In a way God used your toxic thinking to come as a blessing for me. It pushed me around until I found a ministry that did not judge me for something shallow as my skin.

The youth group I work with, my tattoos help the troubled kids see I am human just like them.
And they see God even loves people with tattoos! :)

I can only pray that God keeps them from never meet you.

Romans 14

1 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.
2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.
3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.
4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.
6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone.
8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister ? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
11 It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ”
12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.
15 If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.
16 Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil.
17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.
19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.
21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.
22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves.
23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

As has been said, there are ones who got tattooed before becoming Christians.

The ink to avoid is unforgiveness and conceit. This can mark us much more deeply and damage us a lot more than something on our skin.

But there are ones who already are Christians and they have gotten tattoos, possibly with some statement about Jesus. But I would say you might want to put on something that can be easily removed. After all, when you mature more you might not want what you as a less mature person decided to do to yourself.

O! People like these are why I almost gave up church as a new Christian. The judgement and bad looks.
But Jesus has us loving everybody, right? Indeed there are church culture people who do not know how to love; and you can be their example so they can see how to love. And your example could be used by God to mark them deeply where it really matters :)

Tattoos are one of those things that could've happened B.C. My pastor is all tatted up. He has a long history of running with the wrong crowd, but he has covered his bad tattoos up with bible verses and such.

Frankly, I'd be more concerned she's calling herself a pastor, but that's a different conversation.

I really don't care whether or not someone else has them. John and Kelley Cooper have them, and to me that makes sense with their job in a rock band.

I would rather not have them myself, simply because I don't like painful experiences.

I have no idea what being a Christian has to do with this. If you're turned off by tattoos, don't date a woman who has one.

Tatoos tend to be a symptom of vanity I tend to put that in with plastic surgery and other things that change ones body to look better to someone else. I don't like tatoos at all on skin and tend to look down on people covered with them as wanting to fit in.... susceptible to peer pressure etc. I think that they can be a stumbling block in life for some people and some relationships and that many regret having them later in life. I find most tatoos distracting and people who are overly tatooed I wonder if they have mental health issues along the lines of cutting oneself etc that in the end tatoos won't fix the issue at all.
I don't judge people for their tatoos but often they are a sign of problems with the person that comes from needing to cover their skin to get attention from others. I know some tatoos are a sign of allegiance with certain groups that can be trouble at times also. I think what concerns me is there is not a huge amount of logical spiritual sense for a Christian to get all tatooed up as the Bible never equates people getting tatoos favorably and too often places and groups that are ungodly are origins of tatoos like prison, bikers clubs, gang members and such. I've even heard that prostitutes get certain tatoos by their Johns to identify them as their "property" not sure if that is true or not though.

Even though tatoos get attention I tend to stereotype people negatively that have them by default.... I prepare myself for someone that is possibly a problem if I don't know them especially when they have an excess of them.
In other words (to me) they are a sort of stumbling block as I've seen women that ruin their beauty with ugly tatoos and often end up hanging around men and others that tend to be more wild and loose in nature.

You can call me shallow or a snob if you want to, but there are several things that turn me off about women is smoking, drinking excessively and tatoos.... plus wearing clothes that makes them look like a prostitute on top of that. Also I'm turned off by people with such a limited vocabulary that they have to cuss in almost every sentence they speak as it gets tiring to talk to people that often seem to be irritated because you don't do the "cool" stuff they do.
