It seems the western sanctions are having an effect:

MOSCOW — Russia’s Foreign Ministry vowed a “tough response” Wednesday to Washington’s sanctions package that hit Russian sovereign debt and two banks that finance infrastructure and defense.

The package also targeted Russian elites and their families.

Russia’s response measures would not necessarily be symmetrical but would be “well-grounded” and painful, the ministry said in a statement. It said Russia has proved it could withstand the impact of all previous Western sanctions packages.

The ministry said that the U.S. policy of trying to change Russia’s course through repeated sanctions amounted to “blackmail, intimidation and threats,” adding that this would not work with a global power such as Russia.

That's rich after deploying 150k Russian troops on two sides of Ukraine and effectively stealing territory with implied force.....

I don't care about Ukraine... We've got more important concerns right here at home. Let others worry about themselves for a change ...
The last time we ignored global aggression, ... global aggression eventually came looking for us ...

Like we don't? Lol... The U.S. is nothing if not hypocritical...

How about the really fun idea that we don't need to rule the world? I don't care about Ukraine... We've got more important concerns right here at home. Let others worry about themselves for a change...

I don’t remember after 9/11 NATO members said “ we don’t care about USA, we have more important concern right here at home”

No, they didn’t. We, Americans were attacked, and NATO members sent their sons and daughter to die in the mountain of Afghanistan.

The USA and NATO have no legit interest in the corrupt Ukraine state. Russia has to live next door to them. Lets worry about securing our own Borders before we throw young Americans on the bonfire against Russia. BTW, how would we react if China signed a Pact with Canada or Mexico and started moving its Forces right up to the Rio Grande or the St Lawrence?

It took 2 minutes for you to react, how profound.
Putin yearns for ye olden days when the USSR was strong.
He’s as crazy as Norman Bates was, that was the point of the political cartoon.

That depends on each and everyones mentality, I put it that way to try to

encourage each to digest what they eat, like being fed by media, for example.

Priority for me personaly is peace.

Stop comparing the President of the Russian Federation with any not relevant

negative images.

I liken President Putin with the last line of Psalms 120.

"I am for peace but when I speak they are for war."

Trying to shine a light in the darkness.

Once again, with the exception of Hitler's assault ... post-revolution Russia has always been an aggressor. Russia was also an aggressor in WW2, ... it's just that Germany turned against her. Even so, Russia took Poland, ... and half of Germany.

ALL of the NATO countries in proximity to Russia ... have been her victims in the past.

And ... any Ukrainian corruption pales when compared to what goes on in Russia.

What you have written describing what Russia has done is not reasonable.

Russia as such cannot do anything, it is the leader who leads,

The past events you were referring to were led but not by the current leader.

Is it so impossible to believe in "A new day".

The leaders of the West who are beating the drum and spreading anxiety and

generally causing mental unwellness among many should weigh what they

are causing.

Russia took the Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.

Russia caused this by moved 150,000 troops into position to invade Ukraine ...

History yes, are we not to learn from history?

Crimea, no one was forced to vote, but though I do not have % of how many

voted they wanted to belong to the Federation, it was overwheming.

It was a choice of the people, is that not what democracy is about?

They did not invade.

What nations has the US threatened with conquest in the last 200 years ?
You mean apart from Granada, Panama, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Mexico, Iraq, and Afghanistan? Not to mention Nicaragua, Guatemala, and of course the Sioux, the Cheyenne, the Kiowa, the Arapahoe, the Apache, the Nez Perce, etc, etc.

Weird phrasing when Russia is starting a war under false pretenses.

Is it wrong for nations to back rebel groups they feel have a more legitimate claim to any given nation or territory? How is the US any different from Russia at the moment, given it's history of supporting rebels and using that as a pretext to destroy any regime it doesn't like half the world away?

Of course Putin is acting on false pretenses. But Americans are in no place to judge given what their own nation does on a regular basis. I think it's quite smart of Putin to move into those regions the way he has done so. Also, unlike the USA Russia has a genuine security interest in the region.

I mean, not really. The borders of Europe have changed dramatically since 1776, particularly in Germany (which didn't even exist at the time) and points east of that. France, Spain and Portugal have basically stayed the same. The United Kingdom didn't exist until 1801, before which Ireland and Great Britain were governed separately. The peoples of Europe, sure, precede the modern American state, but most of the states in Europe are relatively young.

Germany was pretty much a creation of the tatters of the Holy Roman Empire after Napoleon wiped them off the map. Indeed, Napoleon was probably the first to create a modern "nation state" with standardization and centralization.
