The Amish thrive on skill, land use/acquisition, population growth, and mutual aide. They can hardly be described as "anti-liberal", unless you are speaking only of certain personal, moral issues.

Do the Amish tolerate degeneracy in their communities? As I understand it they expect their men and women to work in their place and provide for their immediate families and the good of the community. Members who refuse to participate according to the rules of the community are shunned.

If you tried this in regular society for anyone doing degenerate things it would be considered intolerant and bigoted. Amish sound pretty Anti-liberal to me. In that you are not free to do whatever you want without consequences in an Amish community.

A mixed race

But its true that the concept of race is confusing in the USA where so many different ethnicities live together and mix. The three main races division was created in times when people lived in their natural geolocations, so the differences were more visible and stable.

Whites will probably be the minority if you look at ethnicities by those who are white and those who are not. But whites will still probably be the single largest ethnicity. I don't say that in a pro or a con way, just the reality of what it is.

I lived in Hawaii 6 years. You are very mistaken here. The power and wealth is in the hands of the locals (native Pacific Islanders and Asians). Whites are treated like dirt. Insulted and assaulted frequently. It's not reverse racism, it's just plain racism. Whites are the most hated ethnicity in Hawaii. They are blamed for all of Hawaii's problems. The Hawaiian government teaches that Hawaii was paradise until white devils stole it and ruined it. You can even see this on signs posted by the government. The truth is that Hawaii was a nation of demonic murderous cannibals. When Captain Cook arrived they worshipped him as a god. Then they killed him and ate him. Hawaii wasn't invaded by Britain. The Queen chose to be a vassal state of Britain for protection. Later, after British rule was thoroughly established, she tried to recant that decision, but it was too late. She messed up. She had no business running a country. She talked smart but acted dumb. Hawaiians didn't get their land stolen. They sold it willingly to the highest bidder. Locals made a fortune. The descendants of those who sold their land have no one to blame but their ancestors. As a white man in Hawaii, getting a job or fitting in anywhere besides an inter-ethnic church is nigh impossible. Schools are still segregated in Hawaii. No, it's not white-only schools. It's Hawaiian-only. Think about that. Racial segregation is alive and well in Hawaii. Instead of Jim Crow it's a locals-only beach, a locals-only school. Etc. Whites are not welcome and if they ignore the warning to know their place, they are swiftly and violently reminded of it. And cops are local boys too, so calling cops gets you another beat-down, or worse.

When I left Hawaii the racism was really getting bad. Young teens were not afraid to yell insults at old white guys that were born and raised in Hawaii. And the old white guys either keep their mouth shut or risk a beat-down. One white guy was burned in his car, another beaten almost to death in a parking lot, lots of whites go missing. All because they didn't "respect the locals". Which basically means, when a local boy says "What you think you doing? Stupid f***ing haole! This is a locals beach! Get the f*** out! Go home! Stupid f***ing haole!" Then the white guy better get away fast and keep his mouth shut.

And if you think that whites deserve it because some white people did something bad 200 years ago, then you are racist. I never owned slaves. My family never owned slaves. And plenty of whites were slaves too.

I left Hawaii along with a lot of other whites, and blacks, because we weren't welcome. Anybody not "local" (Pacific Islander or Asian), is pushed out of Hawaii. Blacks are not welcome either. But they hate whites especially.

Don't get me wrong, I have Hawaiian friends. Not everyone was racist. But the racism got so bad that it triggered an exodus of non-locals, white and black. Which is what they wanted.

I agree that skin color and ancestry do not equate with culture. Slave owners sired children with slave women; those children mostly grew up in the slave culture, not in the culture of their father. Even those whose mother was of mixed race parentage. Culture dominated over genetics.

Many years back, when I was in a metro area that had busing to accomplish desegregation, I lived in an integrated community with good schools. And diverse, since we had black, Middle Eastern and Asian families, along with whites. Students from the inner city were bused to our schools. What became obvious to me was that the black students who had grown up in our community were of a different culture than the students who were bused in (for the most part). Dressed differently, spoke differently, etc. I realized that your immediate environment, at home, in the neighborhood, at school, and at church, had a huge influence.

Another less divisive but very common occurrence was a marriage of two people of different ethnicities. Say the Father was German and the mother Italian. What culture were the children? You can bet that they ate more Italian cooking (at home) than German, and likely learned how to make great lasagna and raviolis from scratch. The children's heritage was half German, but they were more likely to absorb the culture of the Italian mother, due to her early and usually at-home influence.

Conversely, I think it's wonderful to know and take part in whatever cultural heritages are part of your ancestry. Being a mutt, I embrace several. As well as to get to know some of the cultures that are not part of your own background. The more we meet and understand one another's cultures and history, the better we will get along.

The Amish lifestyles are over rated.

Years ago I spoke with a nurse in the ER in Pennsylvania.
She told me how they are often treating Amish children
for common ailments that they could've avoided if they came
into the modern world. She said their lifestyle isn't as healthy
as people believe. Modern medicine and technology has been to
our benefit mostly. It's all a matter of how we use it.

Last time I checked, Asians Americans are above whites economically. Being Hawaii has a higher
population of Asians than whites, I would think they are economically above the white population there as well.

My cousin lives in Hawaii and has been there for the past 20 years. He likes it and never
speaks about being treated badly by non-whites. I'll check with him again to see how
things are.

BTW, he doesn't live on the mainland, but one of the smaller islands.

If you pay attention to who holds economic power, which group holds the highest levels of personal and family wealth, as another correspondent has just said, whites are certainly not sharecroppers.

That information does not translate to Hawaii, in which the Asian population contains a lesser percentage of the relatively recent immigrants who tend to do extremely well and a higher percentage of the particular Asian ethnic groups that don't do very well (such as Filipinos).

If you were stationed in Hawaii, you can't compare that to living there as a civilian.

Most people who live around military bases don't like the military people. It was the
same in North Carolina and Virginia for me.

The US doesn’t “increase immigration” from anywhere. People apply for immigration and are approved if they meet the requirements. They don’t say “no we’re sorry we’re not accepting European immigrants at this time” or “I’m sorry we have already reached our quota of European immigrants this year”.

That doesn't change what I wrote. One thing you notice if you actually deal much with "Asians" is that they're only "Asian" when dealing with impersonal non-Asians.

Otherwise, dealing with them one-on-one, person-to-person, they're Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Thai, et cetera. In Hawaii, they break down that 37.79% into its components.

No, just the opposite. Using ER's to bail you out because you didn't get
your kids vaccinated is what causes higher rates for everyone who has
health insurance.

I worked with former Amish young people who left to get and education and
job in hi-tech. They said it's not as great as people think it is.
