Okay so I've been here for a while now and I didn't see this topic yet so here we go ...

Who's your favorite preacher/pastor and why?

My favorites are Dr Charles Stanley and Pastor Mike Todd. I love listening to their sermons on Youtube. They're very different though.

I used to follow Joel Osteen but I switched to the 2 above.

Please share your fav ones below. I wanna discover more preachers :)

I don't listen to many broadcast preachers now, but my favorites have been ... J. Verdon McGee (Through the Bible Radio), Chuck Swindoll (Insight for Living), ... and the updated Joyce Meyers (Enjoying Everyday Life).

I favor ministers who seem to care about their listener's lives ... in Christ.

I've watched (and view favorably) Charles Stanley. I have a few of his books ... and have used his christian lesson series in my church's Christian Education ministry.

I concluded early on that Joel Osteen was a bit too focused on earthly success. My father used to love his jokes, though ...

Jesus Christ and the King James Bible

We don’t need vainglorious theologians to tell us what the Bible means.

Meister Eckhart. Of course, he's been dead for centuries so no podcast lol. But there are books with collections of his sermons. I usually read a little Eckhart every morning.

I used to watch the late Chuck Missler a bit, sometimes also J D Faraq's middle east update and also Amir Tsafarti's end times prophecy update. I am quite careful about what I allow myself to believe from internet preachers. Jacob prasch says a lot of interesting things, but he's often very loud and intense and not that easy to listen to, for very long. I'm not very comfortable with a lot of what I hear on the internet, maybe not very reliable.

I am very much inclinded to question much of Jonathon Cahn's online content and suspect that some of the contents is probably more likely hype, but sometimes he ocassionally slips in some bits which sort of check out as genuine. I have my doubts about quite a large amount of what he quotes from his books, possibly mainly hype.

Greetings Cute Peonies,
When possible I still try to go to the source, the preachings and lessons of John the Baptist, and of St. Paul and Luke themselves still resonate so much. But among modern voices I would agree, Chuck Missler and Joel Osteen when they give good sermons provide something special.

There have been times when my car was in the shop so I can't go to church on Sunday AM so I tune in to Joel Osteen's service online, he has an amazing teaching gift! Always very blessed by it!

A lot of false teachers started off really well then sort of lost their way. Often it seems to be with fame and the reverence of their congregation that inflates the ego. As soon as their flock no longer question anything they do, watch out. Every cult has a leader who is unquestionable. What I have noticed though is many people who may preach a very flawed doctrine have often written some brilliant books, usually earlier on in their ministry but not always. We should always remind ourselves that preachers are human and very flawed and not expect perfection and when they fall, watch how they act/repent and see how they will remedy the situation. One of the worst is K P Yohannan from Gospel for Asia, a missionary organization that had such a good concept but again, lost their way. They obviously mismanaged/stole enormous amounts of money yet their leader has not admitted a thing with all the evidence condemning him. Thankfully though most are very humble after getting caught and can go on to have a better ministry than before if we'll just let them. And we should.

Also its important to take most of your Christian influence from text. The chance of someone saying something wrong is so much greater than them writing something wrong as it will be checked and rechecked before publication or posting (you would hope!).

I'd like to add to that list J John. He has a most unique take. And though he's long gone one that stands out is Merlin Carothers who had a most unique take to adversity and tragedy: Welcome it all because only be accepting everything can we let God work His wonders to full extent. His premise is God is most willing to help if only we didn't get in His way! And the only way of doing that is accepting the misfortune at the time, which, when really awful, is very challenging. For example, not many parents could welcome the death of a child but as they can't bring that child back, by welcoming that event, brutally tragic as it was, they allow God to make the most of the situation. And isn't that the whole point? Maximization of opportunity? Isn't that all that anyone can do in their short life? Given the choice we all would lay down our lives if many others could be saved because of it. Its only natural in the grand scheme of things. Our time on Earth is a brief moment compared to our eternity in Heaven.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm following Pastor Mike Todd services on Youtube and one day he rubbed his spit on a man's face during sermon to illustrate a point, just like Jesus did to heal a blind man. He had the audacity to do that because his church starts getting famous. He apologised later on. I'm not criticising him because I love his teachings but that was just too much.

This is so true but watching videos is easier for me than reading books. And I mainly read romantic novels. Gotta give it a try someday.

Yes, it shows you that in the emotion of the moment its easy to make a mistake. That's why text is far more reliable. They will naturally be more careful with text. Its also a lot easier to search for keywords!

I notice you're in Madagascar. Not sure how easy it is to get Christian books there but if you haven't tried one yet, get yourself an ereader. Then you can get millions of books for free online. Its much easier to read on an ereader in many ways if its not illuminated as there's no glare like a phone or tablet or LCD monitor. The Amazon Kindle DX is great value as it can read PDF's (if its in landscape view) and has a 9.7" screen whereas the vast majority of them are only 6". The Kindle DX goes for about $100 on Ebay.com and there are always models for sale. A lot of older material is on PDF. Of course you can read PDF's fine on a computer but not many people sit at their computer reading a book though it is a good reading tool, no doubt. Especially if you use some speed reading techniques like PhotoReading to peruse large amounts of material looking for pertinent areas to your needs. Ereaders are about the best invention ever as they enable us to carry around vast amounts of text in a tiny, easy to read package. Best to use a large one at home and a 6" one for portability. Ereaders generally read mobi or epub files, rarely both but this is improving. Use Calibre to convert and read mobi and epub on your computer. Foxit is good for PDF's. Adobe is terrible.
