We bought an ar15 and a couple hundred rounds. I have not even attached the sights yet. I really do not like that we have it, and even less that we need one. I am not even sure I could actually shoot anyone. I suppose if they were physically hurting my loved ones. I need to go to my sons' home in the country and practice. It has been 50 years since my military days.

We have been expanding our garden. We are going for some potting soil today. Gotta get moving! Times-a-wasting!

We added a couple heating backups. I got the fireplace functional and tested it during the last cold spell. Ice took out the power and we realized we had no backup. My daughter also bought us a 23000BTU kerosene heater for my birthday. So, we have a backup to the backup.

The prep room is currently a disaster. Our main problem is the house is just too small. The prep room is low on the livability list so whenever we don't have a place for something, it goes in the prep room. We have even moved 20 5-gallon buckets of rice into the bedroom behind the stand-up mirror and behind my recliner. Moved cases of flour under the bed. Still the prep room is a mess. Sigh...

We are piling and shredding leaves. Some are going into the compost heap while others are being stacked onto the raised bed as mulch. The last ice storm brought down a lot of branches in the back yard. They are getting sawed up and added to the firewood pile

There is always something on the chore list.

I kind of feel it comes under this admonition.

1 Tim 5:8
If anyone does not take care of his own relatives, especially his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Interestingly some of the disciples carried swords, possibly as a deterrent to muggers on their travels-
"When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him." (Luke 22:49-51)

Our primary focus this month is organization and stocking the larder. Making room is like playing a game of musical chairs. Adjustments are necessary. You never have enough space.

Below: This is my food cache, mostly tinned stuff which has a sell-by date of 2 or 3 years, so if an apocalypse hits and the grocers shelves run empty it should tide me over for a while til the authorities can hopefully get things organised.
Milk and bread would be a problem because they only last a week or so before going off, I'll look into getting some powdered milk which might last longer.
Water would be a very serious problem if the taps run dry, I live only 50 yards from the Atlantic but can't touch a drop unless I can find some kind of still or filter to remove the salt..:)

If I was planning for an apocalypse I wouldn’t assume I’d remain in the same place. Bunkers are usually located elsewhere for that reason.

If I felt a bad event was coming mobility would be a priority.

They're saying meat prices are going to increase. So seems having recipes that includes other sources of protein would be good to have readily available.
Yes. They have already started. We saw steak was up to something like 11 bucks a pound. My wife almost fainted when she saw a whole chicken for 13 dollars. Bacon has certainly gone up. Hot dogs are up. Cold Cuts are up.
Best get it now before it really starts going up.

The only way to combat meat prices is reducing consumption or buying in bulk. The per pound rate will always be higher. The butcher buys a steer for a flat fee. Retail cuts are determined by the market as is the rate.

He pays the same for ground, roast and steaks. But you don’t. That’s the difference. The same holds true for subscriptions.

I priced them out a couple of months ago for someone. They’d have to subscribe for 10 months to equal the beef I acquired in weight. But they wouldn’t have organ meat, bones, tallow, etc.

The difference in expense was staggering. $1,370 for a 10 month subscription versus my cost resulted in an extra $951. Which is basically a freezer. A very nice one.

You’re probably paying the same at the store if you track your purchases and add them up for a year. I didn’t spend $10 a pound or $5.

If the upfront costs are too much pool your resources. You’ll get more bang for your buck. Inflation decreases buying power.
