Hi there,

What was the curse of the Law.

When Jesus took the Curse of the Law for us, what were we released from?

Contributions appreciated.

The law itself is not “the curse. Scripture tells us
Gods law is holy, just, and good in Romans 7:12

The curse of the law came in by 2 ways, the first is shown in
Deuteronomy 27:26 “Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the
words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.”

First part of this curse has to do with sin as it is written
in Romans 7:10-11. The law was ordained unto life, but the
curse came when man could not keep the law because of the
weakness of his flesh and sin.

The second part of the curse, which is swearing to the oath.
Galatians 3:10. The word oath in Hebrew can also be defined
and shown as the word curse in scripture. And swearing to
an oath can also be shown as binding ones soul to a curse
as in NEHEMIAH 10:29. In Daniel 9:11 we read..

“Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing,
that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is
poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses
the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.”

The curse came in by swearing themselves to the oath in Numbers 30:2
So being unable to perform the vow to God to keep the whole law,
because of the weakness of the flesh and of sin, then the curses
mentioned in the law were put into effect.

What Jesus said in Matthew 5:33-37, also ties in James 5:12

“But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven,
neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea
be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.”

The law has both "blessings" and "cursing" depending if follow it or Not.

Galatians 3:10.."cursed is everyone who does not do everything written in the Book of the Law"..

What does this mean?

Galatians 3:10
For all who are of works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all the things written in the book of the Law, to do them.”

How can a believer be 'of the works of the Law' ???

Are we also released from the obligation to keep every aspect of the Law because He did this for us?
Hello @Carl Emerson, the "Law" (Mosaic law) point to God's Righteousness on the other hand " Faith" also point to God's Righteousness..Romans 3:21

So you either follow the Law or Faith (Gospel). If you follow the Law then Faith is no use and vice versa. Galatians 5:4

Only if a "so called" believer chose to follow the Mosaic law (mosaic law is based on works "man's own work" Not God's work).."the "person" who does these things will live by them"..

Paul repeatedly clashed with Jewish believers who demanded that Gentile converts obey the Mosaic Law.

I understand believers who are 'of the works of the Law' to be those who think they can be justified by it. And such believers still exist 2,000 years later. But they're cursed by the Law because they willingly enter into that covenant yet don't keep every letter of it. The Law had more than 600 commandments, not just the first ten.

So a believer can come under a curse by seeking to keep the Law ???
Yes according to Galatians 3..Also why do they call them "believers" by following the Law (mosaic law) showed they don't believe in Christ! Galatians 5:4

I think Paul is harder on them than any of the other churches:

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel...

I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain...

You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.

Yes Paul was harder on the Galatians because of their "lack of knowledge" for being easily deceived by this so called new Gospel preached by those of the "Law"..

Galatians 3:1.."you foolish Galatians!

Galatians 3:3.."Are you so foolish?

Yes... deceived would seem to mean 'spiritually blinded'.

OK... so do those who fall this way come under the Curses of the Law mentioned in Deut 28?
YES, those curses in Deuteronomy refers to the same law (mosaic law) they (Jews) preached to the Galatians..
