'I will bring every single gun loaded,' parent tells Virginia school officials during mask mandate meeting

A Virginia woman was arrested Friday after she appeared to threaten school board officials while they met to vote on whether to lift a mask requirement.

The woman, Amelia King, 42, was accused of making an oral threat on school property after she was cut off during a public comment section of the Page County public school board meeting Thursday, the Luray Police Department said in a statement.

“Alright. No mask mandates,” King told board members after her three minute comment period ended. “My children will not come to school on Monday with a mask on. That’s not happening and I will bring every single gun loaded and ready.”

Unlike most "I didn't actually mean it" defenses, I'm inclined to give this woman the benefit of the doubt -- nevertheless, even figuratively, there's a darn good reason you don't yell "fire!" in a crowded theater, and you do not make gun threats in a school...

There’s definitely a clash between the state’s obligation to protect students under its custody, and the unhinged fantasy shared by libertarian-types of righteously mowing down agents of an authoritarian state with the arsenal of weapons they’ve meticulously collected over their lifetime. The right call was made here, I think, even if the threat was probably not literal. We can’t let people say that and get away with it.

That said, I'm sure the charges will either be dropped, or she'll just end up paying a fine. Lesson learned... We hope.

Just more tin pot big government deep state types harassing an innocent parent who dared voice her opinion to the school board.

Some people that cannot regulate their emotions say and do things to get in trouble. The Bible says that words have power.

A threat is not an opinion. Make a note of that.

Shooting ones mouth off rarely leads to shooting ones guns off,

Said by someone in the UK.

Being in Dallas, I would not say that. Any argument might lead to a fist fight, and any fist fight might lead to a gun fight. When someone in the US says in anger, they're going to bring a gun, it's risky to presume that's a figurative statement.

It is very close to a specific threat. "That’s not happening and I will bring every single gun loaded and ready.”. Absolutely grounds for arrest and investigation.

Said by someone who lived in Dallas for close to three years, and for two or three decades visited Texas three or four times a year. And yet I would still say that.
Basic safety concepts are applicable here: near misses are more common than minor incidents, which outnumber lost time injuries, which exceed serious injuries, with fatalities at the top. Most raised voices don't lead to shooting.
And my point is, in line with basic safety concepts, reduce the number of shouting incidents and you reduce the number of shootings.
