The JUDGMENT of the RIGHTEOUS is going on RIGHT NOW in Heaven. Jesus is going over THE BOOKS, examining EVERYTHING we have SAID & DONE, and deciding whether or not those who CLAIM to be His followers, truly are HIS FOLLOWERS. When Jesus comes the second time, He says, "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:12. We can see from that verse, that the JUDGMENT for the RIGHTEOUS will take PLACE BEFORE He returns to take us home to Heaven with Him, because He tells us that when He comes the 2nd time, He brings the REWARD with Him. That REWARD is ETERNAL LIFE to all those who have truly LIVED (and many have died) for Jesus.
And YES, the Bible teaches that we will be JUDGED by our WORKS ~ "And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.”" 1 Peter 1:17.The JUDGMENT for the WICKED takes place during the 1000 years, AFTER the RIGHTEOUS are taken to Heaven, and during that 1000 years, the righteous are "given the authority to judge" the wicked.
Just as there are TWO JUDGEMENTS, there are TWO RESURRECTIONS. The RIGHTEOUS DEAD come up in the 1st RESURRECTION and the WICKED DEAD come up in the 2nd RESURRECTION at the END of the 1000 years, after the RIGHTEOUS (who are now in Heaven) have gone over the all the books that contain everything the wicked ever said or did, and there are no questions in anyone's mind that God is 100% FAIR...that those who fall in the class of the wicked, truly are wicked and their REWARD will be the SECOND DEATH.
Rev 20:3 The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.
Rev 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.)
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years.
