I just noticed an Ollie's commercial and thought hmm..... a store selling leftover clearance etc merchandise that advertises "up to" 70% off. I've been there and not overly impressed at most of the prices on stuff there it reminds me of a dollar store wanting to compete and become another BigLots or Dollar Tree etc.
I've lived long enough to see how these clearance stores work they all start out selling leftover stuff and slowly they come across manufacturers and wholesalers of stuff and buy their products under an unknown generic label and seem to never run out of these products that are not clearance items. Over time these "fake" clearance items take up more and more of the store shelves and then we have a BigLots where they buy out some clearance stuff but price it an annoying 25% off the high price that they have on the items at times you can buy the stuff normally priced either cheaper or slightly more than discounted clearance prices. These items essentially rot on the shelves till either enough people buy them or they decide to possibly pack them up and ship them to another store to do this again maybe combining stock from several stores after a 50% markdown yields not much sales maybe.

In other words the long I live the less bargains stores offer on clearance these days. Even when Sears was closing they milked out the "bargains" to the point that I believe the pricing was not dropped so as to support employees working months longer with that money instead of just dropping the prices and getting it done.

The days I grew up with as a child of going out of business sales taking 1-2 months have long gone now a lot of these places it is a scam used to lure people in thinking they will get a bargain when in reality these so called sales take sometimes over a year to happen likely that is when their lease is finally up then these stores close and reopen a year or two later at another location and do this all over again.

Walmart at one time was started by selling leftover and clearance stuff from other companies they had no product lines or suppliers of their own and as they evolved their prices rose and rose and bargains are fewer and fewer they intentionally price their stuff based upon what they can get vs other stores not really as much competing but more akin to price matching. Most stores these days are not competitive they are almost like in collusion sort of with the market going price if you buy auto parts from the small "convenience" sized stores like Autozone etc you will notice the prices are almost identical for almost everything vs their competitors and compare their prices to Ebay and Amazon and you will find them at times sky high. I've bought the exact same things on Ebay for less than half the price locally.

looks like it may be snow this weekend ahead here. I feel for those folks out east as that could mean a blizzard for them as it has been warmer lately here likely cold with the moisture ahead may not mean as cold of temps but likely a lot more snow for them

The lows are dipping further bitter here mid week from 15-18 forecast last week to 13-14 now if this heads east likely they could see some pretty bitterly cold weather and if they have humidity levels high enough could be blizzards on the way by the weekend I'm guessing.
