And a couple of Christmases ago my Costa Rican sister in law game me a bottle of hot sauce from Costa Rica. The number one ingredient was habanero peppers. They lied or it was a very water logged crop. I first tired a small drop and almost nothing. Bigger and bigger dabs until I realized while good tasting it was not habanero based.

I traveled for over a thousand miles to spend some time with my lifelong friend. He has since passed away; but he liked hots as much as I do. He opened up his pantry to show me his sauces. He picked out one called Satan's Blood, and told me this is really really hot. I said "yeuhmmhmm let me try it." He said no. I said, "come on, put some on a spoon and let me try it." He said NO!. I said, "I can't believe that I just traveled over a thousand miles to see my best friend; and you won't let my try your hot sauce." He said, "watch this. I'm going to put one drop in this big pot of rice. After you try the rice; you can have as much as you want." I was completely satisfied with the rice. I wouldn't think of putting a whole drop directly into my mouth.

Here is a video I found on the product. The two in the video really shouldn't have done this; as they will tell you. This is no joke.:

This is a great thread! :) One thing I have learned is the more heat you eat, you develop a tolerance which can mess things up when you are cooking for others. Usually I’ll just cook a very mild heat main dish for people now and put a lot of sides and sauces on the side. And I always mark my homemade salsa when serving.

No thank you very much!!!

I'm not keen on the brand name; but this is the only 'hots in a bottle' that I've experienced, that even compares to what I can get from fresh peppers. Most just taste like vinegar to me. This surpasses (not that I would want to) what I can do with fresh peppers. There are many years of hot dishes locked up in that little bottle.

I know! I have experienced this malady myself. Not cool. Literally!

I thought the phenomenal exit was something like an unspoken hot sauce bond between hot sauce lovers. But, perhaps, we are the special few. ;) Lord help us all.

They really should have heeded the warnings; but I almost did the same thing, having never seen anything really hot in a bottle before. I feel sorry for them.

not a big fan of the spicy Korean noodles, had them once and the packaging is definitely misleading. Also it's just spice and no spice flavor (in my experience)

I grew some ghost peppers last year. Been meaning to get around to make a sauce with them. The Indian curry Phall is generally made with them (or Carolina Reaper or something equally hot). There's an Indian restaurant not far from me and a few years back a few of us went out for dinner. And it was on tbe menu. Only the second time I'd seen it offered anywhere. The conversation with the waitress:

'And I'll have the phall'.
'Oh, that's very hot'.
'Yes, I'll have it, thanks'.
'But it's extremely hot'.
'Yeah, I know. Phall for me'.
'No, I mean it's very, very hot'.
'I'll. Have. The. Phall. Thanks'.

Ye gods, it was weapons grade. Blazingly spicy. And I couldn't finish it all. So doggy bag for what was left. And number one son, who was still living at home at the time, gets in late from a night out with his mates and pokes around in the fridge. 'Ooh, curry'. And warmed up what was left.

It was still there in the morning. He only had one mouthfull. But no milk left in the fridge.

This reminds me of the story my mom tells about going to an indian restaurant outside of our home town. She ordered the three, thinking of our local one to ten scale. When they pushed back she assumed it was because she was a middle aged white lady and held firm. After receiving her dish she realized they used a one to four scale.
She didn't get the anticipated meal, but presumable got some street cred.

My best Navy bud and I went to an Indian fusion place. It was a favorite spot of mine but he had never been. They did four grades as well and he ordered Indian hot. Just a few minutes in his face was flushed and he was pouring sweat. He had the good sense not to wipe his mouth and his forehead with the same napkin.

Yes, spicy, absolutely. And hello! buldak:). I try to make/look for spicy food that does not obliterate my receptors, but adds a flavourful punch to my food. Otherwise it's just torture with cutlery. Korean food enthousiast here. You can add some Indian, lots of Indonesian, Lalaysian and Surinamese dishes too:)

I must admit to be addicted to heat. I probably have about ten bottles of hot sauce of various sorts at any one time. If it says "hot" in the grocery store I usually laugh. Though lately I tried some noodles that caught my attention. The first time I tried Buldak spicy chicken flavored noodles I had to drink some milk. I did not quite follow the directions and that appears to have concentrated the head. I drained off all of the water, though you are supposed to leave a quarter of a cup of water when cooking. They did not seem as hot the next few times around:

I can get those at my local Safeway. The image on the package is a chicken breathing fire. They have a product that is twice as spicy. I ordered that through Amazon. Now the chicken has a bomb

And just for fun I ordered some Daebak ramen made with Ghost Peppers!! I will keep you posted.

I cooked Madhur Jaffrey's Vindaloo once, when I had a cold I couldn't get rid of. That involved an overnight marinade of the meat in ginger and spices, and various kinds of chilli and chilli powders. The flavours were really complex, really tasty actually, but it got hotter and hotter the more you ate. My brother and flatmate at the time refused to eat any more than a mouthful, after I got through half of mine my brother told me to look in the mirror - my whole head was purple. I did add some extra chilli to kill off the cold, but that's the spiciest thing I've eaten. Maybe it was the combination of different spices, or just the volume of chilli.
