I answered your questions. There’s no contempt from me. Again, maybe you are projecting.

Surely you know the meaning of the word "contempt"? You have access to a dictionary, after all...

1a: the act of despising

b: lack of respect or reverence for something

Hopefully we can agree on those definitions. And I’ve done neither. Perhaps you are projecting.

projecting: to attribute (one's own ideas, feelings, or characteristics) to other people or to objects

Figures the one time a dictionary would be useful, you use half of one:

  1. the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn.
  2. disregard for something that should be taken into account.
  3. the offense of being disobedient to or disrespectful of a court of law and its officers.
If you truly believe the parents and/or children of the public school system are lazy, greedy, and/or ignorant (and you do -- A Christian wouldn't bear false witness), then you've hit definition 1 pretty much on the head.

Meanwhile, I've worked in the public school system for the last 7 years -- still care to expound on the parents and children in it?

If you say so, then that's good enough for you.

I'm not the One you're going to have to convince, so the point is moot.

What have my kids missed out on? Please be specific.

Assuming that you and your homeschooling circle include trained experts in teaching all the subjects involved in a high school education, that would just leave them missing out on the formative social year's where most of us learn what real life is actually like (including all the horrible stuff) rather than a sanitized, controlled version. Did you make sure your kids got to experience bullying, nastiness, lying and backstabbing or will all that come as a shock when they grow up and enter real society?
I'm going to guess they also missed out on the natural teenage rebellion that comes with the school years, experimenting with things your parents don't approve of, starting to build your own personality that isn't rigorously controlled by your parents etc.

No, we protected our children from the heathens, and didn’t let them act like ones. It’s called raising your children and not letting society do it for you. No regrets. My kids are just fine.

And it’s “years”, not “year’s”. :)

I have to disagree here -- Homeschooled children can be every bit as socially adjusted as traditionally schooled children... assuming the parents are socially adjusted themselves.

That's the only real issue concerning homeschooling -- if the children are being emotionally, physically, and/or sexually abused at home, it's easier to hide if the kids aren't getting out as much.

But well-prepared and conscientious parents can and often do prepare their kids for the "real world."

Spotsylvania [VA] School Board orders libraries to remove 'sexually explicit' books
The board voted 6–0 to order the removal.

Two board members, Courtland representative Rabih Abuismail and Livingston representative Kirk Twigg, said they would like to see the removed books burned.

The bookburners have remained adamant(*), but the other board members have now voted to reverse the policy.

Virginia school board rescinds decision to remove ‘sexually explicit’ texts from libraries

The Spotsylvania County School Board voted 5 to 2 Tuesday to rescind its decision, a week after two parents complained about inappropriate content. At the Nov. 8 meeting, the board unanimously directed Schools Superintendent S. Scott Baker to reconsider whether every sexually explicit book in school libraries should be kept or permanently removed — forcing a team of about three dozen staffers, including all of the district’s librarians, to start poring through tens of thousands of titles.

Many Spotsylvanians spoke during a public comment period that stretched for more than four hours. A high-schooler told the board that censorship is “contagious and leads to much worse,” according to the Free Lance-Star. A county librarian added, “If you have a worldview that can be undone by a novel, let me suggest that the problem is not the novel,” the Free Lance-Star reported.

[Board member] Braswell said he wanted to rescind the book removal because the school district’s attorney had informed the board it was probably unconstitutional. The attorney argued in a memo to board members Thursday that the removals would prevent children from reading about certain political ideas and social viewpoints, violating the right to free speech.

Braswell added that the school district already has procedures for dealing with parent complaints about books, and that he wants the books challenged at the Nov. 8 meeting to go through the established process. Braswell said he did not know about the existing system for challenged books last week — and if he had, would not have voted in favor of removing the sexually explicit texts.

(*) Actually, one of them denies saying he wanted to burn books, although it's all on tape. And the other says he "misspoke" in the heat of the moment.

Score one for the First Amendment, and another one for parents, students, and librarians stepping up for it.

IMO even books like Mein Kampf or The Turner Diaries shouldn't be burned or outright banned (and I think those kinds of books are way worse than anything being complained about in this thread, as they directly promote genocide). But they should probably come with disclaimers.

Which is actually a decent solution. If enough people consider a book to be objectionable, why not just print a disclaimer on the cover that says that it might contain material that would be unsuitable for some readers? Or is that too similar to a 'trigger warning'?

This thread just goes to show how far we've fallen. That now sexually explicit material is being supported by ADULTS for children. What on earth have we come to when adults no longer seek to protect kids from this kind of material. What has happened in a society when almost anything goes for KIDS!?

ADULTS supporting this stuff. No wonder we are falling apart. This is no better than white supremacists teaching their kids to hate others because if the color if their skin. That is just as immoral. We would rail against that. But it's certainly okay for kids to fill their minds with this junk. Adults are supposed to protect kids not subject them to this stuff.

God help us.

By "ADULTS," you mean parents, right? But of course you do.

Some parents objected, other parents objected to the objection, and the school board decided to address the objections the way they're supposed to.

Fret not -- people can still buy their own copies of the books and burn them themselves.

What on earth have we come to when adults no longer seek to protect kids from this kind of material. What has happened in a society when almost anything goes for KIDS!?

Ask their parents...if they ask you.

ADULTS supporting this stuff.

Parents keeping their children's eyes open.

No wonder we are falling apart.

Speak for yourself; I'm doing fine.

This is no better than white supremacists teaching their kids to hate others because if the color if their skin. That is just as immoral. We would rail against that.

Actually, you railed against the response to that -- and you seem to be winning that battle, so be proud.

But it's certainly okay for kids to fill their minds with this junk. Adults are supposed to protect kids not subject them to this stuff.

Start with protecting your own kids... and keep it at that.

God help us.

He did. He got parents involved.

In the 21st century, parents have yielded duty to the state, regarding their children's education (including sexual education), transportation, medical care, and nutrition. How many more responsibilities could be yielded before society might consider that children no longer belong to the biological parent, but the state instead?

Isn't the point of an education to make them useful parts of the economy?

I have a feeling The Turner Diaries are garbage. But Mein Kampf is worth reading. A smart man knows his enemies.
