They're strategy games.Oh nice! I have not played those ones before!
Civilization IV is obviously in the Civilization series, which is basically about building an empire. You research technologies, build cities and armies, and expand your empire's power. You can win via peaceful or warlike means. I like Civ IV best because it does better justice to religions, and is very easily moddable. It's easy to mod the .xml files if you're familiar with using HTML or UBB tags.
X-Com 2 is the sequel to the remake of X-Com. War of the Chosen is a major expansion pack to X-Com 2 which fills it out nicely. If you're interested primarily in story development and immersion, play X-Com first. That's the game where you command a global special forces unit to fight back against alien raids. X-Com 2 assumes you lost the campaign in X-Com, and the aliens took over. You must command a global insurgency against the aliens and the fascist regime they set up. It does have more layers to its strategy than X-Com (especially stealth, ambush, and carrying bodies). War of the Chosen adds more classes, more ways to use existing classes, covert ops missions, more "regular" missions, more enemies to fight, better music, and voice acting by several Star Trek: The Next Generation actors.

Besides an occasional round of online texas hold'em, I hadn't played any games for years until recently. I thought it a smart investment to get a little game to help keep my sanity and my mind stimulated as needed as I'm studying. It's called infraspace. It reminds me of the old sim city games but it's slightly more complicated in a way because you have to deal with supply chains. It's kind of interesting but won't trigger any adrenaline rush, which is exactly what I was looking for.

That sounds like a enjoyable sort of game! I tend to prefer games that don't get my adrenaline going too much!

So, I was on VRChat for the first time since November, and had a rather "Chronicles of Narnia" experience. We were standing around in front of a large mirror when a realistic, yet winged, lion showed up looking regal, and proceeded to explain how we could prevent crashing. I think he's one of the developers.
When it's bad it's cringe, but when it's good it's awesome. I spend much of my time on there exploring mazes or doing 3D art while listening to music, which is enjoyable either way, but there's something to be said for the social aspect if you find the right group. Not to mention that dancing with full body tracking is fun way to exercise when the weather is bad and you're stuck inside. I should log on more often. It got me thinking about splurging on a professionally-designed avatar that I can customize and use across multiple platforms.
If only my Blender modeling skills were good enough to make my own avatars from scratch. Maybe someday. I can already model machinery and environments easily enough, using CAD software, and doing the textures in PhotoShop or Krita. However, I can only dream of modeling organic shapes, that are up to my standards, at this time.

That sound absolutely amazing and so cool! Although I don't have a VR set, I have heard that one can still play without it, so I have been thinking about trying it out.

I'd say it's at least worth checking out. Yesterday, I rode around on somebody's avatar that was a functioning Ferris wheel. There were 7 seats on the rotating wheel, and for a while all seats were taken. Being in VR at the time, combined with the fact that wheel was turning and its owner was walking around, I started to feel sick and jumped off! I probably wouldn't have felt as nauseous had I been seated behind a keyboard and monitor, rather than standing and wearing a headset, but it was an experience.It is on Minecraft's official website!

Although I haven't played it without being in VR, and some people buy VR systems specifically for VRChat, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of users don't have VR systems.

I always avoided video games because I have coordination problem called dyspraxia. Then someone I knew online suggested Lord of the Rings Online because it's so easy to play, and since I'm a bit of a Tolkien geek I'd already be familiar with the storyline and locations etc.
So I've been playing LOTRO exclusively for over five years. I gave EverQuest II and Dungeons & Dragons a try but I didn't like them nearly as much as LOTRO.
