• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Every time I fast I notice an improvement in my spiritual health.

The most I have gone for is only around 3 days though, I would like to accomplish 2 weeks at some point, but I always get hungry and my mind tricks me into eating before long.

I inadvertently stumbled upon a two week fast a little over a year ago. I became sick with something I still do not know what it was. I got tested for Covid, it came out negative and the symptoms I was experiencing were not much like Covid symptoms. I had a very low-grade fever off and on, became extremely weak and lethargic and had zero appetite. My fast was not complete as I would from time to time over that two week have a small bite to eat because my wife insisted that I do so. The food tasted excellent, but I just had no desire to eat it anyway. I did ingest copious amounts of water. After the sickness passed, I felt physically better than I had felt for decades. I had lost 25 lbs and my blood pressure was 120/80 which amazed me as I have been plagued with high blood pressure nearly my entire life. I just assumed that it runs in my family as both my parents, neither of whom were at all overweight, suffered from it.

That experience convinced me of the physical usefulness of fasting and I now am looking forward to fasting not just for the physical benefits but also the spiritual benefits that I did not experience while sick because I did not intentionally fast as a means of growing closer in my relationship to God.

Often after a fast removes some form of toxin buried deep in your cells you achieve a level of well-being never before experienced. Usually this elevates you to a higher level of health that you will enjoy from that time onward, unless you again poison your system with the same toxins.

Back in the 1960's I often used "Contac" decongestant (since pulled from the market per FDA rules) for frequent head colds. I opened a capsule once and crunched one of the tiny time-release 'pills' beween my teeth. The harsh medicine taste was terrible. Some years later while on a three day fast this buried toxin was released and flooded my sinuses, and mouth with that same taste. The pain was intense, feeling like someone was punching me in the face with bare knuckles. After a day it passed and after I broke the fast I felt a strength and health that I had never felt before. Praise God for fasting!
