There is NO risk to me if I am wrong about "certain" doctrinal positions.

I notice you didn't answer my question about God watching over the translation of scripture - I still await your response on that important matter.
I did indeed answer your question. Lets look at it again in some detail here. You were shown from post # 317 linked and other posts through scripture, that all the translations agree with that has been shared with you here. "Sabbath keeping" is the same as "Sabbath resting" they are not different things. We keep the Sabbath by resting on it in the "seventh day" of the week. However no one enters into God's rest in the seventh day of the week if they do not believe and follow what God's Word says. This is the warning given in Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 we are not to harden our hearts to. Your argument seems to be "Sabbath keeping" is different to "Sabbath resting" that remains for the people of God to enter into by faith. That is not the meaning of the Greek word "σαββατισμός (sabbatismós)" G4520 which literally means "sabbath keeping" by "resting" on the "seventh day" of the week. Of course God's hand is over His Word. That does not mean that every translation is a perfect translation and neither does it mean you can only know the truth of God's Word if the translation your reading is a perfect translation. The Jews for example had perfect translations of Gods' Word yet they did not even understand it and crucified the Messiah that their perfect translations referred to *John 1:1-14. This is because Gods' Word can only be understood as God is our guide and teacher through His Spirit (Isaiah 55:9; 1 Corinthians 1:20-21) . No one therefore can know God's Word without God's guidance through the promise of His Spirit (John 16:13; John 7:17; John 14:26; Hebrews 8:11; 1 John 2:27) who is the Spirit of the Word of God (John 6:63) who God gives to those who believe and obey Him (Acts of the Apostles 5:29).
As for Sabbath Keeping and Sabbath rest, there is a vast difference in meaning.
Sorry Carl, but that is not true at all but let me explain further from the scriptures if it might be helpful. As shown earlier no one keep the Sabbath by not resting on the Sabbath so Sabbath keeping is the same thing as resting on the Sabbath because we keep the Sabbath by resting on the Sabbath. This can also be shown through the scriptures in Gods' Word. Let's look at the scripture starting with when God made the Sabbath for all mankind in Genesis 2:1-3.

Genesis 2:1-3 says [1], Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and HE RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; KEEP SABBATH] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made. [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY: BECAUSE THAT IN IT HE HAD RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] from all his work which God created and made.

Note: Gods' rest (He rested) on the "seventh day" if you look up the Hebrew word for rested here it is the Hebrew word שָׁבַת shâbath, H7673 which is a verb which means "keeping Sabbath" through rest and ceasing from exertion or work, while the Hebrew word for Sabbath is שַׁבָּת shabbâth, 7676 which is the noun or the description name of what is being kept through resting. So once again we keep the Sabbath or "Sabbath keeping" is done by resting on the "seventh day" of the week. This is also repeated in God's 4th commandment as shown in Exodus 20:8-11. Let's have a look...

Exodus 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. [9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: [10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God [This is a direct reference from God's Word defining what the Sabbath is; The SABBATH = the SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK]: in it THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and MADE IT HOLY.

Exodus 20:8-11 is a direct reference back to Genesis 2:1-3 of entering into God's rest on the "seventh day" of creation where God set apart and blessed the seventh day of the week as a holy day of rest for all mankind (Mark 2:27). So once again getting back to our point Gods' 4th commandment shows that we keep the Sabbath by resting on it and not doing any work that we normally do every other day of the week (Exodus 20:10). While Exodus 20:11 tells us the reason we are to keep the Sabbath by resting by referring back to Genesis 2:1-3 where it says "For in six days God made the heavens and the earth and "rested" on the seventh day where God blessed the Sabbath and made it a holy day of rest. So once again as can be seen through the scriptures Carl "keeping the Sabbath" is the same as "resting on the Sabbath". We keep the Sabbath by resting on the Sabbath. You cannot separate Sabbath keeping from resting as we keep the Sabbath by resting on the Sabbath (seventh day of the week).
In the New Covenant Sabbath Rest is given as a gift to believers through the obedience of Christ.
That is not biblical at all. Show me a single scripture that says the Sabbath rest is given as a gift to believers through obedience to Christ? - There is none. The only definition of God's creation Sabbath in all of God's Word is found in Exodus 20:10 where it says word for word, "the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God". So the "seventh day" is the Sabbath according to the scriptures which no one enters into if they harden their hearts by not believing and following Gods' Word according to Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4.
This has nothing to do with keeping a day, it is instead a daily reality we are to walk in by faith.
As shown in the previous section you have no scripture to support anything you have said there and the only scripture that defines the creation Sabbath in the entire bible is found in Exodus 20:10 that says "the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God". So according to the scriptures the Sabbath has everything to do with a "day" because the scriptures define the "seventh day" of the week as "the Sabbath of the Lord your God (Exodus 20:10).
You will notice that the invitation to this rest is given 'today' meaning any day it is made available by faith.
Agreed. The context however is not hardening our hearts to believing and following what Gods Word says as it is written "we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world." (Hebrews 4:3). Once again the context and warnings of Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 is that if we continue in unbelief and sin we will not enter into God's rest which is defined in Hebrews 4:3-4 as the "seventh day" Sabbath created from the foundation of the world. This is a reference back to Genesis 2:1-3.
For that reason modern scholars translating Hebrews, speak of Sabbath Rest and not Sabbath Keeping.
See previous sections already addressed there and proven through the scriptures, Sabbath keeping is Sabbath resting. The Greek word used here is "σαββατισμός (sabbatismós)" G4520 which literally means "sabbath keeping" by "resting" on the "seventh day" of the week. We have also just looked at the Hebrew words for rest in Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11 which means keeping the Sabbath by resting where we are commanded to do no work in Exodus 20:10. Therefore Sabbath keeping is resting on the Sabbath. You cannot separate Sabbath keeping from resting because we keep the Sabbath by resting on it.
Romans 14:5 clearly refers to there being no sin in regarding all days alike. judging others regarding the observance of a day is off limits. For this reason I don't have a problem with Sabbath Day observance.
I noticed earlier you simply avoided my question to you earlier challenging you claims as to what you posted earlier in regards to Romans 14. As posted earlier; Paul dioes not say anywhere that keeping the Sabbath is optional. I asked you to show me scripture that says in Romans 14 anywhere that Paul is saying keeping the Sabbath is optional? Your reading that into the scripture. The context of Romans 14 is eating and not eating on days that men esteem over other days and judging others in this regard. It is not talking anywhere about what days God esteems and does not even mention the Sabbath let alone the Sabbath of God's 4th commandment being optional. If you believe what I am saying is not true then prove to me from the scriptures that Romans 14 is saying that the Sabbath is optional. The Sabbath is not even mentioned here.
Nor should should there be a problem with those who don't observe.
Well for me that is the risk right there isn't it. According to the scriptures God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken (see Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4) and according to James if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin in James 2:10-11 and according to Hebrews 10:26-31 if we continue in known unrepentant sin after we have been given a knowledge orf the truth of Gods' Word and we choose to reject it there remains no more sacrifice for sins but a fearful looking forward to of the judgement to come. I prefer to believe what the scriptures teach in this regard.
Col 2:"...no one is to act as your judge in regard to food and drink, or in respect to a festival or a new moon, or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ."
Carl do you know that there was many different types of sabbaths in the old covenant that were different to Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandments? According to the scriptures, there were many different types of sabbaths (plural) that were not the same as God’s 4th commandment and had a different purpose to God’s 4th commandment of God’s 10 commandments. For example, there were many different types of ceremonial sabbaths in the old covenant that that were linked directly to the annual Feast days as days of rest where no work was allowed. None of these however are in reference to Gods' weekly Sabbath which is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4 and James 2:10-11. These annual ceremonial “shadow sabbaths” connected to the annual Feast days were the “shadows of things to come” (Colossians 2:16-17) because they connected directly linked to the annual Feast days and laws for remission of sins and sin offerings under the earthly Sanctuary and Levitical Priesthood. These included; (1) Feast of Unleavened Bread (first and last days were holy convocations where no work was to b done) *Leviticus 23:6-8 (2) Feast of Trumpets *Leviticus 23:24-25 (3) Day of Atonement *Leviticus 23:27-32 (4) Feast of Booths *Leviticus 23:34-36 (5) Feast of First Fruits *Leviticus 23:39 (6) Feast days of Holy convocation of no work (sabbaton Colossians 2:16 *Leviticus 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36. All of the above including God’s 4th commandment were linked directly into the annual Feast days *Leviticus 23:3 through the old covenant laws of sin sacrifice and meat and drink offerings under the Levitical Priesthood in the earthly Sanctuary. The within scripture context of Colossians 2:16 is that the meat and drink offerings (laws for remission of sins) and the new moons and the sabbaths (plural) in the Feast days they they are all linked to are the “shadows of things to come” but the body us of Christ. That is, because the annual Feasts were all shadows linked directly to the laws for atonement and the remission of sins and sin offerings through animal sacrifices, pointing to Jesus as the promised Messiah and His work on our behalf in the new covenant as Jesus as our great High Priest who now ministers on our behalf in the heavenly Sanctuary that the Lord pitched and not man (see Hebrews 7:1-25; Hebrews 8:1-13; Hebrews 9:1-27 and Hebrews 10:1-22) they are now fulfilled and continued in Him to which they pointed to in the new covenant! The Sabbath of God's 4th commandment however, is also outside of the annual Feast days on a continuous weekly cycle that point backwards to the finished work of creation not forward to things to come so cannot be a shadow law of anything according to the scriptures because it was made before sin and before shadow laws of the old covenants. Happy to prove this in more detail and happy to discuss it further if your interested, just say so.

Take Care Carl.

What I think is edifying is the scriptures that God guides us to with His Spirit. How are you going to know what is true and what is not true without God's Spirit and over 40,000 different forms of Christianity all professing to know the truth of God's Word? There is nothing wrong with the OP. There is indeed risk in what we choose to believe or not believe according to the scriptures as Gods' salvation is conditional to believing and following what God's Word says.
Your logic appears to me to be circular. "God guides us to the Scriptures with His Spirit." OK. But wait, you say there are "over 40,000 different forms of Christianity all professing to know the truth of God's Word." Oops, so perhaps God's Spirit isn't doing such a good job of guiding us, or them, or who? Oh, but wait: "We choose to believe or not believe according to the Scriptures." Isn't that precisely what those in the "over 40,000 different forms of Christianity" think they are doing? Ah, but only those who share your "form of Christianity" are actually doing it - is that the idea? And you know this how? Because God guides you and not them? But they think exactly the opposite, and around we go until nonbelievers just shake their heads and roll their eyes at the comical spectacle that calls itself Christianity.

The Sabbath debate that has generated pages of posts strikes me, in my "form of Christianity," as largely Much Ado About Nothing. What I have noticed is that those in the "40,000 different forms of Christianity" are absolutely in love with the oddball, nonessential doctrines that distinguish them from everyone else.

No not at all. According to the scriptures God's people are all those who are living up to all the light that God has revealed to them through His Word *John 4:17; Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31. What that means is that God has His people in every Church who are living up to all the light God has revealed to them through His Word, believing and following what Gods' Word says (see John 10:16). God does not hold us accountable for sin until he gives us a knowledge of the truth of His Word and we choose to reject Gods' Word in order to continue in known unrepentant sin. So in times of ignorance when we do not know any better God winks at but when he reveals His Word to us he expects us to believe and follow what His Word says (compare Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31 with Hebrews 10:26-31). According to the scriptures we can only find the truth of Gods' Word as we turn away from the teachings and traditions of men and prayerfully seek God to know His truth through His Word asking for the promise of His Spirit to be our guide and teacher (see John 16:13; John 7:17; John 14:26; John 8:31-36; Hebrews 8:11 and 1 John 2:27). Everything is how the scriptures have said it would be and that Jesus has warned us about. Time will tell if this is much Ado about nothing and if there is risk or no risk but sadly according to the scriptures if there is risk it may be too late for many by that time who had the chance to hear Gods' Word but choose to close their eyes and ears to hearing and seeing what Gods Word says. Our opinions therefore do not really matter much. Only God's Word is true according to the scriptures *Romans 3:4 and we should believe and follow them (Acts of the Apostles 5:29; 32).

Take Care.

Hebrews 4:9 - So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. (NASB) Notice that the Greek word "sabbatismos" here is used no where else in the Bible.

W. E. Vine, Greek Dictionary points out:

Sabbath rest (4520) (sabbatismos from sabbatízo = keep the Sabbath) literally means a keeping of a sabbath or a keeping of days of rest. It is used in this passage not in the literal sense (meaning to keep a specific day, the "Sabbath" day) but to describe a period of rest for God’s people which is modeled after and is a fulfillment of the traditional Sabbath.

SABBATISMOS a Sabbath-keeping, is used in Heb. 4:9, R.V., "a Sabbath rest," A.V. marg., "a keeping of a Sabbath" (akin to sabbatizoµ, to keep the Sabbath, used, e.g., in Ex. 16:30, not in the N.T.); here the Sabbath-keeping is the perpetual Sabbath rest to be enjoyed uninterruptedly by believers in their fellowship with the Father and the Son, in contrast to the weekly Sabbath under the Law. Because this Sabbath rest is the rest of God Himself, its full fruition is yet future, though believers now enter into it. In whatever way they enter into divine “rest,” that which they enjoy is involved in an indissoluble relation with God. (Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words)

Probably from the same “scholar” that thinks Sunday is holy despite zero evidence in scripture. We all have free will, we are warned the devil deceives the whole world, you are free to believe what you want, but there is no scripture that says God’s 4th commandment that we are to keep holy and is the holy day of the Lord thy God has been deleted in scripture. If you are okay with that “risk” that is your free will.

You have free will, but God only said that about the seventh day. Genesis 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11 Isaiah 58:13

That was Old Covenant - In the New Covenant we walk daily in the Holy Spirit.

Carl you posted a personal commentary on what Vines thinks Hebrews 4:9 is referring to while ignoring the literal dictionary word meaning in the same passage which is says that the literal word meaning is in the first sentence that you did not highlight that says Sabbath rest (4520) (sabbatismos from sabbatízo = keep the Sabbath) literally means a keeping of a sabbath or a keeping of days of rest. What you highlighted is not the word meaning it is Vines interpretation of scripture that he has placed on Hebrews 4:9 which is not the role of a Dictionary. I will not use Vines dictionary as a commentary of Hebrews 4:9 as that is not the purpose of a dictionary do not agree with his interpretation (e.g. some independent sources for this claim linked here click me 1, 2, 3).

Here you go.... Let's look at everything together here and include the scripture context and subject matter, the original Greek dictionaries, Interlinear's and Lexicons literal meanings of σαββατισμός (Sabbatosmos) applied to scripture context that you're not considering if it may be helpful.

HEBREWS 4:1-11
[1], LET US THEREFORE FEAR, LEST, A PROMISE BEING LEFT US OF ENTERING INTO HIS REST, ANY OF YOU SHOULD SEEM TO COME SHORT OF IT.
[2], FOR TO US WAS THE GOSPEL PREACHED, AS WELL AS TO THEM: BUT THE WORD PREACHED DID NOT PROFIT THEM, NOT BEING MIXED WITH FAITH IN THEM THAT HEARD IT.
[3], For WE WHICH HAVE BELIEVED DO ENTER INTO REST, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into MY REST: ALTHOUGH THE WORKS WERE FINISHED FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.
[4], For he spoke in a certain place of the SEVENTH DAY on this wise, And God did rest the SEVENTH DAY from all his works.
5, And in this place again, If they shall enter into MY REST.

KEY POINTS FROM THE SCRIPTURES OF HEBREWS 4:1-5 (exegesis)
  • Hebrews 4:1 More warnings to fear if we do not enter into "His rest" if we fall short of it.
  • Hebrews 4:2 Because unto us was the gospel preached as well us unto them but they did not believe
  • Hebrews 4:3 We who believe (present tense) enter into God's rest from the foundation of the world
  • Hebrews 4:4 Reference of Hebrews 4:3 is to the Gods' Sabbath rest of the "seventh day" (Genesis 2:1-3)
  • Hebrews 4:4-5 God's rest is the seventh day Sabbath of creation that we enter into by faith (Genesis 2:1-3)
NOTE: Context in Hebrews 4:1-5 is God's Rest from the seventh day Sabbath from the foundation of the world (v4-5) and those who enter Gods rest by and believing and following Gods Word [the gospel] who enter into God's Sabbath rest as God did on the seventh day of the week. The context here defining God’s rest/My rest/His rest is to God’s seventh day Sabbath rest created at the foundation of the world that those who believe or do not believe God's WORD do or do not enter into. The new testament writer of Hebrews is warning us that if we do not believe and follow God's Word (the gospel) and continue in sin and unbelief (Hebrews 3:10-13; 18-19) we will never enter into God's rest (His Rest/My Rest) which is defined as the "seventh day" Sabbath rest in Hebrews 4:1-5. There are two rests here. One is to the rest we enter into by believing and following Gods Word which is our rest and the rest we enter into by believing and following God’s Word to God’s rest which is the seventh day Sabbath. Hebrews 4:3-5 defines God's rest by saying [3], For we which have believed do enter into rest (our rest from or the gospel rest of believing and following God's Word), as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest (God's rest): although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. [4], For he spoke in a certain place of the "seventh day" on this wise, And God did rest the "seventh day" from all his works. [5], And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest ("seventh day").

[6], Seeing therefore it remains that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
[7], Again, he limits a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
[8], For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
[9] SO THEN, IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH. (of "Therefore a Sabbath rest remains for the peoples of God; Sabbath keeping and Sabbath resting mean the same thing)
[10], For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. [11], Let us labor therefore to enter that rest, [God’s REST the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH] lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief [rejecting God’s WORD and sin; Hebrews 3].

KEY POINTS OF HEBREWS 4:9

Now notice Hebrews 4, verse 9: “SO THEN, IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH.” In verses 1, 3, 4 and 8, the Greek word for “rest” is katapausin. It means “rest.” But in verse 9, the Greek word for “rest” is sabbatismos, which is a Hebrew word—Sabbat, which means “the Sabbath”—combined with a Greek suffix—ismos, which means “a keeping of” or “a doing of.” Put together, sabbatismo means “a keeping of the Sabbath.” When correctly translated, Hebrews 4:9 should read, “There remains therefore a keeping of the Sabbath to the people of God.”

According to the Greek and scripture contexts of Hebrews 3:7-19 and Hebrews 4:1-9, Hebrews 4:9 is in regards to God’s seventh day Sabbath of the 4th commandment which in the context of Hebrews 4:1-5 which defines God’s rest/My rest/His rest (Hebrews 3:11; 18-19; Hebrews 4:1; 3; 5; 10) as the “seventh day” from the foundation of the world *Hebrews 4:3-4.

............

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
Hebrews 4:9 So then, it remains for the people of God to keep the Sabbath.

Lamsa Bible
Hebrews 4:9 It is therefore the duty of the people of God to keep the Sabbath.

................

For your interest, the Greek word used here for Sabbath is Sabbatismos and means a Sabbath keeping or keeping of the Sabbath or how the Sabbath is kept by resting.

HEBREWS 4:9 [9], SO THEN IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH.

…………..

SUMMARY: God's rest is the "seventh day Sabbath" of creation. Our rest is that of believing and following Gods' Word. No one enters into God's rest (defined in Hebrews as the "seventh day Sabbath") unless they believe and follow Gods' Word (the gospel rest). Of course God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11) are a part of God's Word (the gospel) that God's people who enter into Gods rest believe and follow in Gods' Word just like Jesus did and the Apostles and prophets in Gods' Word. Everything provided here are not my words but have been taken directly from the scriptures which are God's Words not mine (exegesis). The warnings here are very clear. Those who do not believe and follow God's Word in order to continue in a life of known unrepentant sin (breaking anyone of God's commandments - James 2:10-11) just like those in the wilderness do not enter into Gods' rest (seventh day Sabbath) and will be in danger of the judgement to come (Hebrews 10:26-31)

That was Old Covenant - In the New Covenant we walk daily in the Holy Spirit.
No one walks in God' Spirit according to the the scriptures if they do not believe and follow what God's Word says (see Acts of the Apostles 5:32; 1 John 2:3-4; John 3:36; 1 John 3:4-9). According to the scriptures, that would be the dead faith of devils according to James in James 2:17-26. Sin (unbelief and breaking God's law) according to the scriptures is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil in 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 and Revelation 22:14.

I consider every day Holy.
Everyday is not holy according to the scriptures. God only blessed "the seventh day" and made "the seventh day" a holy day according to scripture (see Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11).

SUMMARY: God's rest is the "seventh day Sabbath" of creation. Our rest is that of believing and following Gods' Word.

Not correct...

We are clearly invited to enter with Him into His Seventh Day of Creation Rest which is for us every day. This invitation is not for one day in seven.

The Believer’s Rest
4 Therefore, we must fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also did; but the word they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united with those who listened with faith. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

“As I swore in My anger,
They certainly shall not enter My rest,”

although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this passage, “They certainly shall not enter My rest.” 6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who previously had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 He again sets a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before,

“Today if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 Consequently, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

Your response here..
Not correct...
I respectfully disagree with you Carl as it is absolutely correct and proven through the scriptures you left out in the rest of the post you were quoting from in post # 330 linked. Let's look at the detail here again if it might be helpful. Perhaps you can explain why you disagree with the post you are responding to and what exactly in the post you are responding to that in your view is incorrect. You cannot simply say something is "incorrect" without proving why something is "incorrect" because the post you are responding to proves why what you have been posting is incorrect from the scriptures. Now what is it exactly in post # 330 linked that you disagree with?

Let's prayerfully examine the scripture details. For example you claim here that "Gods' rest/His rest/My rest as used in Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 is not the "seventh day" Sabbath created from the foundation of the world yet the scriptures in Hebrews 4:3-4 literally state verbatim and say; [3], For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. [4], For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. This is a direct reference of God resting on the seventh day Sabbath of creation in Genesis 2:1-3. You say incorrect then prove why? You say our rest is not in believing and following Gods' Word but Gods' Word not mine says Gods' people did not enter into Gods' rest (the Sabbath) because they hardened their hearts in unbelief and sin (see Hebrews 3:8; 11-13; 15-19; Hebrews 4:1; 5-6).

So God's Word says Gods people did not enter into Gods rest defined as the "seventh day" Sabbath of creation from the foundation of the world because they hardened their heart in unbelief and sin and you claim "Not correct"? There is a lot of scripture here Carl that support the view God's rest is the "seventh day Sabbath" of creation and our rest is in believing and following what Gods' Word says that you're claiming "not correct" don't you think?

Take Care Carl

Scripture please Carl? Where does it say in the scriptures we enter into God's "seventh day" creation rest every day? I am finding it difficult to understand what you have posted here without you providing any scripture support if I am being honest with you because according to the scriptures, "the seventh day" of the week is not every day of the week. Full text of Hebrews 4:1-11 already posted with scripture context shown in post # 330 linked.

That was Old Covenant - In the New Covenant we walk daily in the Holy Spirit.

The new covenant is in Jer 31:31-34 and has not only forgiveness of sins, and also adoption into God's family... but in fact it writes the Law of God on heart and mind according to the actual text.

So then "Do not take God's name in vain" Ex 20:7 does not get deleted in the New Covenant

Are you ok with the idea of taking a given doctrine and its opposite and then discussing the "risk" for each when each one of those two options is found to be wrong. In other words "comparing risk" as is being asked of the atheist in example 1 of the OP???

Which is the topic of this thread

NO...
I don't believe risk has any place in the matter of Christian faith.

Scripture says not to forsake sound reasoning... sound doctrine as we see on page one of this thread

In the OP our first example is the one for the atheist - where it is pointed out that the two options are "atheism true" or else "Christianity true".

It is pointed out that "risk" is only incurred one way in considering that sound reasoning given in the first example.

WE have actual former atheists looking at this very topic and telling us that God used sound reasoning such as this in the case of one of those former-atheists, to wake them up to their risk.

I assume that you have "Some other method" that works with atheists.

Peter says not to give lame arguments.

1 Peter 3:15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect

Paul agrees.

Titus 1:7 For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not overindulging in wine, not a bully, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, self-controlled, righteous, holy, disciplined, 9 holding firmly the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict it.

It does not say "able to contradict those who contradict" but rather "able to refute those who contradict". In some circles merely name-calling and contradicting is "enough" -- and is all that should be asked of them in their own POV. Scripture does not agree.

Rom 12:3
For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

1 Tim 1:10
... immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,

1Tim 4:6
In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.
1 Timothy 6:3
If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness,

2 Timothy 1:13
Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

Titus 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.
Titus 1:13 This testimony is true. For this reason reprove them severely so that they may be sound in the faith,

Titus 2:1
But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.

Titus 2:2
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.

Titus 2:8
sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
Hebrews 12:19

1 Peter 4:7
The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.

The Bible argues in favor of sound logical arguments, sound reasoning

Bob, you raise an important issue.

Personally I have seen little evidence that apologetics is a successful tool in evangelism.

James 5 states that the Wisdom from Above is reasonable. (open to discussion)
That is a statement made in the context of communication within the body of Christ.

However there is strong support for persuasive dialogue with the unsaved as we see with Paul on Mars Hill.

I think, however, the most effective interaction with the unsaved comes from - testimony and love.

Jesus prayer in John 17 comes to mind...

... that they may be one... that the world may know...

So the visible unity of the body should be central to evangelism.

So I see a big difference between bringing folks to mental ascent to a belief system - and seeing transformed lives.

Presenting risk may bring rational response but not change necessarily of heart.

I'm sure you appreciate that God dwells outside of chronological time...

He is permanently in the Seventh Day of Creation.

He invites us to join with Him in His rest today if you hear His Voice.

This invitation is constantly being made every day and He awaits our response.

It isn't about Saturday or Sunday or any other day - it is about the free gift of communion with Him through the obedience of Christ by faith.

I did indeed answer your question.

Again the question remains unanswered...

Has God watched over the translation of scripture so we have dependable translations or not ???

That is all I am asking.
