My Pillow Guy says the Jan 6 Committee can't subpoena his phone records because "his 2020 election integrity activities are motivated, in part, by his strongly held religious beliefs.
... Mr. Lindell also associates with numerous other persons who may or may not be public figures, whose identity and association with him is not publicly known, who wish to have such contacts remain confidential. .... [Therefore] Compelling disclosure of Mr. Lindell’s religious and political activities and associations is a violation of his First Amendment Freedom of Association rights, Free Exercise of Religion rights, as well as Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press, and Freedom of Assembly rights."

Trump did not want to tweet 'stay peaceful' during January 6 riot, key former aide says

The former official, who was working in the West Wing and was close to White House messaging during the insurrection, said Trump did not want to include the words "stay peaceful" and was "very reluctant to put out anything when it was unfolding." Trump was "letting it play out," the official said of the violence at the Capitol.

Top Trump aides -- including the then-President's daughter, Ivanka, and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows -- were pleading with Trump to call off the mob, the ex-aide said. Those officials eventually convinced Trump to include the "stay peaceful" message in the tweet about the Capitol Police, the former aide added.

The former official, who relayed the account to the House select committee investigating January 6,, says congressional investigators are requesting specific information from Trump staffers who are cooperating with the probe.

The former official, who declined to be named out of fear of retaliation, described January 6 as "one of the darkest days in our nation's history."

Don't think that's going to work.

'Please don't look at my phone records because ... er ... I might have spoken to some people who would be upset if it got out.'

That must be the weakest ever objection to a subpoena.

This is a bit weird. Isn't this exactly what Stephanie Grisham said yesterday (the same day as the article) on CNN (the source of the article)? Why are they anonymizing her name?

In the article I posted, she doesn't say much specific other than what I quoted:

"All I know about that day is he was in the dining room, gleefully watching on his TV, as he often did. 'Look at all of the people fighting for me,' hitting rewind, watching it again. That's what I know," [Former White House press secretary and Melania's Chief of staff Stephanie] Grisham said.

While Grisham is not an unlikely source. The main thrust of the article is about her meeting with other former Trump officials who have become disenchanted with him. She may have put CNN in contact with some of them to support her story.

Hmm. These officials do understand the committee will eventually find them, right? And their names and testimonies will become public.

The idea that lying your teeth out is a protected religious practice has gained a lot of ground over the years.

Oh, "protected", I misread it as "standard" which is why your statement didn't make any sense at first. :)

The Jefferson Parish School says it is asking a recently-appointed member to resign. The board's decision regarding Rafael Rafidi comes just two days after confirming him.

"He presented himself as a family man of strong faith with a commitment to education," the board said in a statement. "All of these attributes led us to believe in Mr. Rafidi’s commitment to diversity and ability to represent our diverse school system."

However, social media posts attributed to Rafidi became public -- posts that disparaged teachers, profanely described various local politicians, and placed him at the "Stop the Steal Rally" on January 6, 2021 that turned into a violent riot at the U.S. Capitol.

One post called Republican U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy a "piece of [poop]" after Cassidy voted to convict former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial.

I know, right? Even Giuliani could come up with a better argument.

Jim Jordan has been asked to voluntarily testify to the Jan 6 committee.

Rep. Jim Jordan is refusing a request to be interviewed by the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, calling it an “unprecedented and inappropriate demand.”

Jordan declined to comply with the Dec. 22 request to appear before the panel to discuss his communication with Trump on the day of the assault. Jordan previously said that he could not recall how many times he spoke with Trump on Jan. 6 but that they spoke at least once.

The panel is also seeking details of any communications Jordan had that day, or the previous day, with Trump’s legal team, White House staffers, members of the “war room” team that assembled at the Willard hotel ahead of the attack, and any other people “involved in organizing or planning the actions and strategies for January 6th.”

Jordan is the second Republican lawmaker to reject the committee’s request. [#1 being: Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.)]

the National Archives received forged certificates of ascertainment declaring [Trump] and then-Vice President Mike Pence the winners of both Michigan and Arizona and their electors after the 2020 election. Public records requests show the secretaries of state for those states sent those certificates to the Jan. 6 panel, along with correspondence between the National Archives and state officials about the documents.

Arizona then took legal action against at least one of the groups who sent in the fake documents, sending a cease and desist letter to a pro-Trump "sovereign citizen" group telling them to stop using the state seal and referring the matter to the state attorney general.

That group’s leader, Lori Osiecki, had told the Arizona Republic in December 2020 that she decided to send in the certificates after taking part in post-election rallies and after attending a daylong meeting in Phoenix that had included Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

The group that forged the Michigan certification had not used the state seal, and it appears state officials there took no further action after the Archives rejected it.

....interesting case in N. Carolina....

"In North Carolina today, eleven voters filed a challenge with the State Board of Elections to Madison Cawthorn as a candidate for reelection on the grounds that he is disqualified by the third section of the Fourteenth Amendment, which prohibits from holding office anyone “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

North Carolina law says “[t]he burden of proof shall be upon the candidate, who must show by a preponderance of the evidence of the record as a whole that he or she is qualified to be a candidate for the office.”

In late December 2021, Cawthorn told supporters to “call your congressman and feel free—you can lightly threaten them…. Say: ‘If you don’t support election integrity, I’m coming after you. Madison Cawthorn’s coming after you. Everybody’s coming after you.’” Cawthorn spoke at the January 6 “Stop the Steal” rally before the crowd broke into the Capitol, suggesting he supported the attack, then voted against accepting the certified ballots from certain states. Cawthorn continues to question the legitimacy of Biden’s election and, last summer, warned there could be “bloodshed” over future elections.

The group filing the challenge promised it would be the first of many."

The man calls upon his followers to literally threaten his co-workers if he doesn't get his way...

Never mind congress; he's VP material for when Donald runs again in 2024.
