Jesus comes to dwell in your heart, which is not necessarily the physical organ which pumps the blood around your body, but the word heart is also used to signify that place which is the seat of your inner most desires and motivations. He wants to be the utermost and ruling desire in your heart. If He is your all in all, that will not just stop there, as you move on in Him, He will also change you mind, your thinking and desires. It is a process and takes time. You still have your own free will and need to learn how to exercise that free will as a new creation in Him. As you do so you will grow from a new Christian, in to a mature Christian who lives in close fellowship with him.
There tends to be a sort of honnymoon period for new Christians, but in time that gives way to times where you need to stand on your own two feet, so to speak and live as a mature Christian. God holds your hand to a different extent in the early days of your walk with him, it's not that He's not there as you mature, but He does have a plan and purpose for your life and part of living for Him is being fitted and prepared for living your life according to the will and purpose which He always had planned for your life from even before you were born. We might be in a hurry, God never is in a hurry. In Him everything has it own perfect timing, so trust him and allow Him to do this in His own perfect timing.
New Christians often have need of patience, I certainly had need of patience, so maybe it's the same for you as well, so here's a little bible portion which is worth remembering when you feel the need to rush something, when perhaps you just need a little more patience.
"he that believeth shall not make haste" Part of Isaiah 28: 16.
Also try not to allow yourself get stressed. Keep your mind stayed on Him and His word.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee".
Isaiah 26:3
