Congress did forward a criminal contempt recommendation but the DoJ decided not to pursue it. The situations aren't really the same though. AG Holder at the time was a senior administration official and invoking Executive Privilege on the behalf of the current president. That's a pretty clear cut use of Executive Privilege. Steve Bannon is a private individual, and was one at the date in question, attempting to invoke Executive Privilege on the behalf of the former president, which it isn't clear has the right to invoke EP any more. The proper response to that inclarity would have been to file an injunction against Congress, not just ignore the subpoenas.

Concerned, self effacing, a good listener, willing to admit to being wrong, caring, knowledgeable, an ability to listen to other viewpoints, forgiving, gracious in defeat...I can keep going if you like. Can you just let me know when we find a characteristic that you think is applicable.

That's what "being in contempt" means, so yes. Also it's congress, so it's your political system, not your justice system, and it's divided, not tiered.

You're wrong, being held in contempt and being indicted for contempt are two different things. I'll ask again, why was Steve Bannon indicted for contempt but not Obama's wingman?

Those two things are not different. Holder wasn't prosecuted due to executive privilege because he worked for the president. The same way Trump didn't get penalised in his impeachments because the senate worked for him.

It's a political division, not a justice tier. The same complete garbage goes on under republican administrations, the difference is I call it garbage when either side does it, whereas you are incapable of even mildly criticising any conservative republican.

Well, that's not entirely true. In the US, we've 3 branches of gov't: Judicial, legislative, and executive. Each is independent of the other with each having check & balances on the other.

The senate is independent of the president. But, the senate was majority republican (at one point) and it takes 67 votes (2/3) to convict. Wasn't gonna happen as long as there were 34 votes that didn't want it to happen.

After arrest the defendant will appear before the magistrate judge (the next day or so) and they will make a ruling based on the information to detain the defendant prior to trial. The presumption under the federal Bail Reform Act is for release pending trial. If either party disagrees there can be a motion to release (or detain) covered by the judge a few weeks after release. (And for some defendants they have made multiple motions with new reasons or evidence each time.)

Most of the defendants are arrested under warrants based on affidavits from FBI agents without indictment. (A few are indicted first.) Indictments can come weeks or months later.

As for the investigation being a year old. Yes, that is fairly early in a large Federal criminal investigation. Expect arrests to continue for the next 4 years as the FBI gets more information including from cooperating defendants.

I'm confident that if the prosecutions were happening quicker we'd instead be hearing complaints about a rush to punish people before all the facts are in.

Government corruption is something everyone should be concerned about. In our country far too many people vote for the two major party tickets and the corruption becomes more entrenched. Have they shown any of the video of deal making by Hunter and Joe in your country? I have personally dealt with many people in Congress and the best thing for our country would be to kick everyone out and start over with people who do not particularly want the job and are not part of the corrupt establishment. For an example of a non-partisan issue, veterans were poisoned by chemicals used to spray during the Vietnam War. They came up with a list of locations and then that was it, they turned the page as Biden did with Afghanistan and could not further be bothered. If you were on the list you got government treatment. Even when a photo of a barrel marked as one of the agent (Agent Orange, Agent Blue, etc.) in a particular camp the response was you can't prove what was in the barrel. They were a small enough minority so their rights could be trampled upon. As we can see with Marxism as introduced in our country, more and more minorities get shafted. Eventually it will just be the elite who rule if they have their way.
