'The church' consists of all of those in Christ. Living and passed from this life. Together we make up the body. We are all united in prayer and worship of God.

The Hebrews 12 passage begins with "wherefore," which connects his statement that the Old Testament believers "witness" our efforts to run the race like spectators in the stands. However, none of the created angels or humans knows the content of our prayers because only God is all-knowing.

The same observation can be made about the symbolism of the Revelation 5 passage. It may mean the same thing that Paul writes in Romans 8 that the Holy Spirit cleans up our prayers when we don't know what to pray about.
