I have come to the conclusion that Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit means you reject the Holy Spirit's conviction to believe the Gospel. It is rejection of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - He died for our sins according to the scripture, He was buried, and He rose on the third day.

What about cussing the Holy Spirit?

Is Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit Unforgivable? Hi. I am Baptist, and I was wondering if this page applies to me. Is this what blasphemy really means?
Hello Nick, I disagree with the definition that your article gives for the unpardonable sin.

Here it is:

"Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is to refuse God’s mercy. It is a refusal to repent of sin."
The Bible tells us plainly that the unpardonable sin is unpardonable from the very moment that it is committed, and a refusal to repent of sin is hardly something that is unpardonable as soon as it is committed as a person could (as many people often do) change their minds and choose to repent at a later time.

Matthew 12
31 Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.
32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

Mark 3
28 Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;
29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”—
30 because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Such a sin, just like a person who refuses to believe the Gospel when it is first presented to them, only becomes "unpardonable" after a person dies (IOW, if they continue in impenitence or unbelief until the day they die), not when they first commit it.

God bless you :)

The context of the passage is not about cussing or cursing as in saying profanity. It is in the context of resisting against the Holy Spirit and His work. His work is to convict men of sin and the gospel.
Perhaps others may have something else to say.

how sure are you? i have been having the worst time of my life- thinking I might go to Hell. I keep on waiting for the perfect moment in time where I fully believe God when he says, 'im going home'...

If you are under condemnation for doing something, that is good. If the Spirit is still working on you then that means He has not given up on you. The word says He chastises His children, and that this chastisement is a sign that you are a child of God.

Hebrews 12:7 KJV
7. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

So simply confess what you know, and then realize you are His child, that He has forgiven you and cleansed you of all unrighteousness. It says HE is faithful and just and will do it. Throw yourself on His faithfulness. He did it!

1 John 1:9 KJV
9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Our Apostle Paul says, "we who first trusted in Christ", in Ephesians 1:12.

So, I understand that if I come to trust Jesus, this includes submitting to Him and learning to live in His "rest for your souls" > in Matthew 11:29.

And if I have an issue about if I am God's child and if I can be forgiven, I offer this to God to be the Good Judge of what He pleases to do with me. Fear and doubt and confusion are not God; so I would not trust what they would have you thinking. Yes, you need to be concerned about where you stand with God, but I would not let that negative and fear stuff guide your attention, but trust God to evaluate you the way He does.

And about what can keep us from being forgiven, I consider Mark 11:25 >

"'And whenever you send praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.'" (Mark 11:25)

So, forgiving is something that matters greatly to Jesus. So, if you have fear and confusion and doubt taking your attention to no real result, this likely is a dirty trick intended at least partly to keep you away from loving and forgiving people the way Jesus desires. So, I would not trust those questions, but trust God to communicate with you.

I agree with everything said here. If what God thinks of you and what you're doing or not doing is on your mind constantly then he has not let you out of his sight and you are his child.

John said something very important in his first epistle.

1 John 2
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.

The fact that you remain is proof that you are a believer! In this walk, you will not remain if you are not genuine. We see some who will respond to an altar call and make a show of repentance, but if they are not genuine, they will eventually wander off. I used to worry sometimes about my salvation... or rather the devil would temp me saying "hath God said you are saved?" Well, yes He did. But the fact that I have remained a professing believer for 50 years now is in itself proof. Nobody would remain in this Christian walk if they were not saved. What would be the incentive? Eventually the cares of this world or persecution would become to much for them and they would depart. Only true believers remain. They stay. They have struggles and they make mistakes, but they always come back to the throne of Grace. That is a sign of genuine salvation.
