Jn 3:27

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except
it be given him from heaven.

I want to take this opportunity to correct a very subtle error , and that is when we read the word receive in scripture that it means something was offered man and man had a choice with his own so called freewill to either accept or reject whats being offered. For instance we read in Rom 5:17

17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ)

The word receive is the same in Jn 3 27 as is here in Rom 5 17, its the word lambanō and means:

to receive (what is given), to gain, get, obtain, to get back and to view all of its definitions see:

G2983 - lambanō - Strong's Greek Lexicon (kjv)

Now the point being made in Rom 5:17 is they received abundance of grace not because it was offered to them, but because it was given to them. In scripture Grace is never offered but given

Ps 84:11

For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Rom 12:3,6

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that isgiven to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

1 Cor 1:4

I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

Remember Paul had written also of Believers that Grace was given them in Christ when ? 2 Tim 1:9

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Even then the Grace was received by them because it was given, even before they had an actual being. So it wasn't a matter of it being offered to them then and they had a choice to reject the Grace given or accept it. No it was sovereignly given !

We can all understand that you can only “receive” a free underserving unconditional gift if it is given. The question is can we refuse a gift? Some invited to a wonderful undeserved, unconditional banquet did refuse the gift, but all those at the banquet were first given the invitation. The receiver of the invitation could not steal the invitation and go. Everyone at the banquet was given an invitation, but they also accepted the invitation. God is not going around kidnapping people to go to His banquet.

Recalling Paul's question here Acts 19:2

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

Paul doesnt mean here have you been offered the Holy Ghost as to mean have you had a chance to accept the Holy the offer of the Holy Ghost.

What Paul means has He been given to you yet ? Has He came upon you yet ? Acts 19:6

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. So they received the Holy Ghost that way, He came upon them, for God gave Him to them. Much like He gave the Holy Ghost to a group of Gentiles. Peter preached to them and He fell upon them Acts 10:44

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Later Peter says God gave the Holy Ghost to them Acts 11:17

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

So the Gentiles received the Holy Ghost because He was given to them. This helps to explain Jn 3:27

7 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

Remember we are talking about Spiritual things here and not material tangible things !

1 Cor 4:7

7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

If it was the will of man which made the difference between saved and lost, then salvation would not be by the grace of God, but the work of man. Grace is God doing everything. “…who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” (1 Cor. 4:7;Gal. 2:6). Receiving that which is of God is about God giving it, not a man accepting it [Rom 5:17. To receive is to have been given, not to have accepted. Those who are saved are saved because they have been given salvation, not because they have accepted it as an offer. Grace is received not accepted. Salvation is received not accepted.

Rom 5:17

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

The they here which receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, receive it because its freely given to them of God by grace, they didn't accept it. Its God that caused them to differ !

What God gives, its received. For instance, if a person lies unconscious, and one is trained to render cpr, well the one giving the cpr is the giver, the one receiving it is the unconscious victim. Now once the victim receives the cpr they are resuscitated . Now did the revived victim receive the cpr because it was offered him or her ? No, they received it because it was given to them, we can say it was a gift bestowed upon them, or imparted into them by the generosity of the giver. Its the same thing with spiritually dead sinners, they receive life, reviving unto spiritual life as a gift from God, it wasn't offered them, it was given Jn 6:33

For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

Rom 5:17

17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ)

Rom 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Once again, we are as vessels, as such we cannot but receive what is poured into us. The work of the Spirit is said to be a pouring forth Titus 3:5-6

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

The word shed here is the greek word ekcheō and means:

  1. to pour out, shed forth See Acts 2:17-18
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Remember when the gentiles received the Holy Ghost Acts 10:45,47

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

It was called a gift here also Acts 11:17

Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

These Spiritual things were received because God sovereignly gave them.

You quoted Acts 2, now see what is told there. Peter says to the men of Israel to hear his words. ( to hear the word of faith.

That part is essential, because faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God..

Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, BE THIS KNOWN UNTO YOU, AND HEARKEN TO MY WORDS:

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, HEAR THESE WORDS; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, AS YE YOURSELVES ALSO KNOW:

Then laying apart all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, they receive with meekness the sincere word, able to save our souls.

Not being a hearing person only, but a doer OF THE WORK, continuing therein into the perfect law of liberty to be blessed in our deeds, perfecting holiness in the fear of God...

James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Acts 2 records the ones who heard the words of faith ( to receive the promises of the Spirit) and how fear came upon every soul ( fear of God) and all that believed were together to have all things common, and sold their possessions and gave as every man had need...

Acts 2:43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

The topic is good, received because given.

Paying attention again, we see those very words of course, how what a man receives, comes from heaven.

Next we read what John says, how he hears the voice of Christ, and this fulfils his joy ( and all men's joy fulfilled)

That is the joy of Christ fulfilled in us, done the same way as John Baptist said, by receiving the words Jesus gave them ( to hear and believe them)

John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

John 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

John 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

Yes I did have a point for all of that, it was the same point I had talked about in the other post, how it is this vital hearing of the same words of Jesus that gives the person faith, obedient faith is what they receive by hearing and believing in the testimony of Christ( of His rising from the dead to life, which will be our life.)

Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

John 1:12-13

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Moreno in his book by grace alone writes; https://www.godsonlygospel.com/by-grace-alone-25

Receiving is not a work of mans, but a gift from God. Who shall come to Jesus? Those who choose Him? NO! Jesus Himself states clearly: “All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me…” (Jn. 6:37). A few verses later, the Lord Jesus states: "...no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto him of My Father" (Jn. 6:65). The only ones who can come, who will come, are those to whom it has been given to come. These are the exclusive ones, the chosen ones, whom the Father has given to the Son. The word received, in John 1 does not mean an act performed by the one who is receiving, but refers to those to whom He is given. They received Him—they were given Him. The ones who receive Him are they whom the Father has given to the Son for the Son to give them eternal life (see Jn. 17:2). They received Him because of Grace. They came into possession of Him by His giving Himself to them. They were given Him because of grace, not because of their accepting Him. Anyone who has God does not have Him because of anything done by them, but only by what has been done for them and given to them. They receive Him not by themselves, or because of themselves, not by their own power, or works, but because God loved them first and gave Himself to them by the power of grace. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Eph. 2:8). Just as a man loves God because God loved the man first, so too, a man receives God because God has given Himself to the man. Man can do nothing before grace. God is a saved man’s Inheritance. Only the chosen inherit Him. No man has chosen God, for God has chosen those whom He would love and reveal Himself to before the world began. No man has chosen to inherit the only true God. People do not go about choosing other people to leave them an inheritance, so too, no one chooses whom God will leave His inheritance to, but God. God bequeathes Himself to His chosen people. Those who receive are those to whom He has been given.

Here is my article. ( by an unknown writer)

When someone such as Mary believed the testimony from the Lord, we see what is told and what that means, the ones who believe are blessed, and then we see what that blessing and belief means, it means then there shall be a performance of those things told the believer, from the Lord..

Luke 1:45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

This is a fair open chance by God( God can only be equitable and gives His rain on the just and unjust and desires the wicked sincerely to not be destroyed, but to REPENT ...

Ezekiel 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Then we see we all hear the word of God, and we have to TAKE HEED HOW YOU HEAR.

Then we hear without allowing the devil to take the word sown in our heart away( this is in an honest believing heart) HEAR THE WORD AND KEEP IT. Be doers of the work and not hearers only deceiving our own selves...

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Jesus said that others will believe on Christ, through the word of His disciples, that is the choosing Jesus did of the disciples, ones who would hear the word, keep it, and not deceive their own selves by not doing it, but honest belief in Christ and preaching the word faithfully to others.

We are workers together with Christ, not receiving the grace of God in vain but believing the faith we hear about, is the gift of God, faith comes by hearing the word of God, all the world heard, and all the world is COMMANDED TO REPENT....

Jeremiah 23:28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Romans 10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

2 Corinthians 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Few are saved but many are called, the way is TO STRIVE TO ENTER I/N AT THE STRAIGHT GATE.

Fact 1. Notice now, THE PROMISE IS UNTO YOU, AND TO YOUR CHILDREN, AND TO ALL THAT ARE AFAR OFF, AS MANY AS THE LORD OUR GOD SHALL CALL ( MANY ARE CALLED AND UNTO MANY THEN IS THE PROMISE)

Fact 2. REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST.

Fact 3. THEN THEY THAT GLADLY RECEIVED HIS WORD WERE BAPTIZED.

Fact 4. SAVE YOURSELVES FROM THIS UNTOWARD GENERATION.

Luke 13:23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

God cannot do as unjust and unfair as people do, they leave their inheritance to their children, and let others starve and die.

God teaches us better than mans wicked ideas, that he has compassion on all, kindness to all, ( sincerely and not in pretense) so to all of us, we are potentials to be saved, unless we do believe that unjust man is comparable to God.

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Zephaniah 3:5 The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

Psalm 17:14 From men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

The problem is, favour is shown to the wicked, it is them who refuse to see the majesty of the Lord ( they prefer to continue to do wickedly as it pays more..

Job 21:14 Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
16 Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

Psalm 73:7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Isaiah 26:10 Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the Lord.

Also I can sum up for all why people think they should support free grace, so that they are chosen and then cannot be rejected, so they will hold onto belief of being saved, by nothing but Gods choosing, and thus all his responsibility.

A pity for that doctrine, it is not the case at all, faith comes in liberty, given freely so that we give freely, just as Israel was called out of Egypt, but expected) commanded) to not do as Egypt did, or receive the same outcome, and all of this is example for us to hear, to fear and of course not be so silly to fall into the very same trap that men ( through their father) want us to fall down into.

The trickery of men does not help anyone, so why do they teach it / Because the only possible answer is, their deceit can hurt you, that's why.

Now we are all called to believe, but the devil does exist, to increase riches, all the things that cause us ( self exaltation and hearing men's words, that we are chosen and cant fail now to be saved, osas boastings and pride of the one father who lies for purpose)

Man’s receiving is a gift from God. Man cannot receive God unless God has chosen the man to receive Him. Salvation does not come after a man gives his consent to be saved, for salvation is not something offered, but given. Salvation is not a man’s choice, salvation is God’s choosing His chosen by grace. Salvation is a Sovereign act of God, and not something which any man can choose, or work for. Man receives only because God has given. That is grace. Man receiving is man being given something by God. Receiving is not the result of a man’s choice to accept, but of God having given. To receive is to have inherited something because of someone else. To receive is to have been appointed by another to receive. A gift is predetermined by the gift giver, not the one receiving the gift. A gift is predetermined according to the gift giver’s will, not in agreement with the gift receiver’s will. Salvation is all based on God’s will, on what God wants. https://www.godsonlygospel.com/by-grace-alone-26

The most important thing to know is that the Lord came to earth to judge it, with RIGHTEOUSNESS ( THERE IS NO UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IN HIM, HE IS UPRIGHT) and the Lord judges THE PEOPLE ( OF THE WORLD) WITH EQUITY...

Psalm 92:15 To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Psalm 98:9 Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

God establishes EQUITY, which is to execute judgment and RIGHTEOUSNESS IN JACOB.

To understand that is done by worshiping the Lord humbly at His footstool, as Moses and Aaron did calling upon the Lord, and He answered them, they kept His testimonies and ordinances that He gave them, and it is REPEATED to us the very same way, WHOSOEVER CALLS ON THE LORD IS SAVED ( also to be among His priests)..

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Psalms 99:4 The king's strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.
5 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the Lord, and he answered them.
7 He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them.

RECEIVED BECAUSE GIVEN ?

To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive these words of understanding ( of faith) is to RECEIVE THE INSTRUCTION OF WISDOM, JUSTICE, JUDGEMENT, EQUITY.

This gives understanding to the simple, gives discretion, and the wise man hears and becomes a man of understanding attaining to the wise counsels ( of the Lord)

THE FEAR OF THE LORD WAS THAT BEGINNING OF KNOWLEDGE ( of the Lord) but FOOLS DESPISE WISDOM AND INSTRUCTION ( they fear not God but all was given in EQUITY)..

Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

RECEIVED BECAUSE GIVEN?

If they will receive His words, inclining their ear to God's wisdom ( His instruction) to apply their heart to understanding, by crying after that knowledge ( thirsting for righteousness) lifting up their voice for understanding, seeking this as searching for hid treasure, ( when the man finds this treasure for the joy thereof, he goes and sells all he has and buys that field of treasure of the Lord)

Then they understand the fear of the Lord, then they find the knowledge of God ( The testimony is being told, so it can be understood and shown)..

Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Proverbs 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

Then we understand righteousness, and judgement and EQUITY, as the Messiah came to earth to judge the poor, to reprove with EQUITY FOR THE MEEK OF THE EARTH, slaying the wicked with the breath of His mouth.

When wisdom can then enter into anyone, and this knowledge of the Lord is pleasant to that soul, discretion is what preserves them, understanding ( fear of the Lord) keeps them, to deliver them from the evil man who LEAVE THE PATH OF UPRIGHTNESS, to WALK IN THE WAYS OF DARKNESS, REJOICING TO DO EVIL, and DELIGHT IN THE FROWARDNESS OF THE WICKED.

2 Peter and they have eyes FULL OF ADULTERY AND CANNOT CEASE FROM SIN, BEGUILING UNSTABLE SOULS, which have FORSAKEN THE RIGHT WAY, and, ARE GONE ASTRAY, loving the WAGES OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS..

2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Proverbs 2:9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
