The library had a DVD of 5 Wild Thornberrys episodes. Gosh, I loved that show growing up, so w/ only 5 20 minute episodes, I had to pick it up.
I rewatched the Rugrats/Thornberrys movie a few years ago & thought it was dumb so was concerned I wouldn't like returning to the Thornberry's TV show, but, nope, it's still good. Some of the animal desgins don't work for me & I find the adventure parts not as interesting, but it's the show's quirks & comedic elements that are great.
Nigel, someone I didn't care for much growing up, definitely steals the show now as an adult.
Plus I love animals
It (2017)
Most of this has been done before, but what do you expect from a story written in the 80s?
The film is gorgeous to look at.
It feels very Stephen King-y, which is what I wanted.
My favorite parts of the movie tended to be just the kids interacting. They steal the show over the monster.
My favorite scene is the famous gutter scene. I also liked the projector sequence w/ the monster. There's a couple other monster scenes I liked but I don't want to spoil. But I didn't like the final encounter w/ the monster b/c too many cuts, I hate how action movies do that a lot.
There's a sequence near the beginning when they first go into the sewers & one of the bullies is killed. We don't see any reaction from the other bullies. It would've been nice to get their thoughts on their friend's disappearance.
Going to the library to check out Chapter 2 tomorrow
It: Chapter 2
I see this got a lot of 'meh' kind of reviews, but I'm not sure why. I enjoyed it. Maybe b/c I watched them back-to-back & so wasn't affected by a 2 year gap between movies that could affect opinions like critics?
I liked it b/c it felt like a continuation of the first one, like one big movie. That's what good sequels do. And that makes since, since they're both movies are one book. My point is that it felt like one big 5 hour movie & I felt fulfilled after that.
'Too many jump scares'? That's all the first one had. I honestly thought the scares were better in Chapter 2. I think I jumped once during the first one, but a few times in the second one.
The best 'scare' parts tho are actually when Pennywise is talking one-on-one w/ the kids & luring them in. I don't like that the It story focuses on monsters. As an adult, I find a clown pretending to be nice & friendly to kids & then abducting them much creepier & scarier than any kind of monster. For example, I loved the bleachers scene in this movie, just like the gutter scene that's become so classic in the first movie.
The cast is all amazing, just like the first one. There's great chemistry.
My only problem w/ the movie is the sewer scene, something I didn't really like in the first one either -> the story switches from horror to action 'let's kill the monster'.
So in a nutshell, I liked it as much as the first one & consider it one movie & am not sure why so many people felt the second one dropped the ball.
