The Disney movie The Black Cauldron

I like animated & fantasy movies, but this one's weird. From a critical standpoint, it seems like a mess, for example too many characters, too much wandering around w/ nothing happening, etc.
It doesn't feel like a Disney movie, it feels more like a Don Bluth movie, I wonder if he worked on it any? The tone can get very dark at times.
The first 10 minutes or so feels like a knockoff of The Lord of the Rings, which I guess the whole movie probably takes inspiration from, but the first 10 minutes I thought it was going to be more similar than what the movie actually ended up being.
I wonder if the movie takes inspiration from D&D b/c there's a lot of elements it shares from D&D type quests too. That's one element of the movie I really liked, I like high fantasy stuff like that.
The villain is also really good. I've seen a lot of Disney fans say he (the Horned King) should get more presence in Disney merchandise & stuff.
This is another cult classic movie I see Disney fans recommend more people should see. I'm not sure I'd put it on that level, but I do recommend this movie if you like LotR, D&D, or Don Bluth's movies (& I like LotR & Don Bluth so I liked it, although it's by no means a masterpiece)

The Disney movie The Black Cauldron

Oh man, I never watched the movie but I read the graphic novel when I was a kid. Didn't even remember the whole thing until now. It was really exciting back then for me. Might as well see the movie at some point now that I remember this thing existed in the first place.

It (2017)
Most of this has been done before, but what do you expect from a story written in the 80s?
The film is gorgeous to look at.
It feels very Stephen King-y, which is what I wanted.
My favorite parts of the movie tended to be just the kids interacting. They steal the show over the monster.
My favorite scene is the famous gutter scene. I also liked the projector sequence w/ the monster. There's a couple other monster scenes I liked but I don't want to spoil. But I didn't like the final encounter w/ the monster b/c too many cuts, I hate how action movies do that a lot.
There's a sequence near the beginning when they first go into the sewers & one of the bullies is killed. We don't see any reaction from the other bullies. It would've been nice to get their thoughts on their friend's disappearance.
Going to the library to check out Chapter 2 tomorrow :)

A YouTube documentary on Revelation

Right now it's making the argument that Jesus's kingdom is established in the last days, but there's already a lot of passages that basically come out & say the kingdom is already established, so: "Because the king who has yet to come is already come, the future has invaded the past. You have so many passages that he's delivered us from the present evil age. We already recieved the first installment. We're not just expecting a future king but a king who's already come"

The library had a DVD of 5 Wild Thornberrys episodes. Gosh, I loved that show growing up, so w/ only 5 20 minute episodes, I had to pick it up.
I rewatched the Rugrats/Thornberrys movie a few years ago & thought it was dumb so was concerned I wouldn't like returning to the Thornberry's TV show, but, nope, it's still good. Some of the animal desgins don't work for me & I find the adventure parts not as interesting, but it's the show's quirks & comedic elements that are great.
Nigel, someone I didn't care for much growing up, definitely steals the show now as an adult.
Plus I love animals :)

It: Chapter 2
I see this got a lot of 'meh' kind of reviews, but I'm not sure why. I enjoyed it. Maybe b/c I watched them back-to-back & so wasn't affected by a 2 year gap between movies that could affect opinions like critics?
I liked it b/c it felt like a continuation of the first one, like one big movie. That's what good sequels do. And that makes since, since they're both movies are one book. My point is that it felt like one big 5 hour movie & I felt fulfilled after that.
'Too many jump scares'? That's all the first one had. I honestly thought the scares were better in Chapter 2. I think I jumped once during the first one, but a few times in the second one.
The best 'scare' parts tho are actually when Pennywise is talking one-on-one w/ the kids & luring them in. I don't like that the It story focuses on monsters. As an adult, I find a clown pretending to be nice & friendly to kids & then abducting them much creepier & scarier than any kind of monster. For example, I loved the bleachers scene in this movie, just like the gutter scene that's become so classic in the first movie.
The cast is all amazing, just like the first one. There's great chemistry.
My only problem w/ the movie is the sewer scene, something I didn't really like in the first one either -> the story switches from horror to action 'let's kill the monster'.
So in a nutshell, I liked it as much as the first one & consider it one movie & am not sure why so many people felt the second one dropped the ball.

Bishop's wife. I guess this is a classic Christmas Time movie. It's really interesting and I like it but I'm surprised for the time in the 1940s that a handsome Angel is flirting with The Bishop's wife. I also was shocked that an angel from God offered to read her Palm. I guess considering those times they thought it was okay. If we compare it to what we see in Hollywood today, it's a far cry as far as sinfulness. She even mentions when she's going ice ice skating with him that she feels wicked and she asked the driver to be wicked with them. It's made around the time that it's a wonderful life was made, but it's hard for me to get over this Angel is sort of trying to charm The Bishop's wife and all of the household. I guess that's what you get when you have Cary Grant playing the angel :) He is pretty handsome.

Why "The Bishop's Wife" Is Our Most Underrated Christmas Classic

I'm watching a Christmas film made in a town I used to live in. Ironically I had to get together with some coworkers tonight there too. It was made many years ago, I'm not sure if it's 1980s or 1990s. I just never got around to watching it.

"South Korean society is very sensitive to trends. Western countries revere individuality. For example, France and other Europeans don't like to wear what others are wearing. But for our country, if someone wears something, and others say it's pretty, if we cannot follow the trend, we feel unhappy that we are left behind."

Learned a lot from this video, although I think Western countries have their own trends, like tattoos. At least in America that has become popular. Anyways, you'll understand Squid Game better if you watch this. Gives many details on how their economy has gotten to this point.

The Black Cauldron is actually based on a series of books by Lloyd Allexander, intended for kids. The books are heavily inspired by Tolkiens Lord of the Rings series.

The movie was a disappointment because they meshed more than one of the books from the series together. "The Back Cauldron" is the title of the second book in the series, but the Horned King was only in the first book. There is a lot of wandering or journeys in the series. There is even one whole book about the main character roaming around to find a sense of who he is, and the title is actually "Taran Wanderer."
