OUR father among the saints, John Chrysostom was one of the most crucial Early Church Fathers of the Fifth Century. Saint John was born in the year 347 AD into a military commander’s family. Secundus, his father, died soon after the birth of his son. His mother, Anthusa, widowed at the age of twenty, did not pursue remarriage but instead devoted her entire life to rearing her son in the holiness and piety of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, son of God and second person of the Trinity.
