If Roe vs Wade is overturned, will the GOP lose in 2022?

If it goes back to the states to rule on abortion, I expect a shake-up in the Republican party. A lot of Repub leaders don't want to do anything about abortion, they just like to run against it.

Now, however, a fired-up Republican base will drive out those pols who are all talk. I'd like to see that.

However, can such a party win national elections? Again, I'd like to see that.
They can win national elections with enough gerrymandering. The US is likely to end up with a full minority government for quite a while.

Furthermore, an end to Rowe doesn’t end the battle. Now we’re going to start looking at how much monitoring should be done of miscarriages. Rowe was based on the principle that there are things the government doesn’t have the right to be involved with. With that principle gone, it’s all politics.

Observer or debater? Not either. Clearly the intention is to throw out a bunch of incendiary comments, waste peoples time and energy, and end any meaningful conversation.

Well, that's one person's opinion... personally, I think the effect overturning RvW would have on the GOP would be calamitous... both in 2022 and beyond.

First of all, it won't lower abortions, it'll only lower legal abortions.
Second, enough states have their own laws in effect that the decision will do next to nothing when the dust finally settles. Those who can afford to do so will simply cross state lines -- those who cannot... will explore less scrupulous options.
Third, the result of this will be a fracture in the Republican party. Some folks will see that the lack of discernable change only means that their single issue has been a non-issue all along...
while fourth, (as I have no doubt that his SCOTUS appointees will cast the deciding votes) Donald will take full and sole credit for the decision, and his devotees will immediately cast him as the savior of America's unborn... further driving a wedge into the GOP.

Politically speaking, the GOP has been juggling this issue like a hand grenade since it was decided back in '73... now they may actually pull the pin.

... unfortunately, they forgot that they then need to throw it -- that part's kind of important.

Up to a point.

You have a rare blood type. As it happens, you are a perfect match for a 9-year old girl who desperately needs a new kidney. Are you obligated to save her life?

No. Not without your express consent... orally or in writing -- and if it's in writing, not even your estate can do it after you kick the bucket, because your "no" is on the record.

Think about it: the state cannot regulate your body, even to save the life of another, even after you yourself are dead.

Now, maybe I'm just a wacky liberal, but it seems a live woman should have the same freedom as a male corpse.
Killing or intentionally maiming yourself is usually illegal.

I've heard that getting a vasectomy without telling your wife is illegal somewhere in the US.

Unnecessary amputation is not allowed.

There's a whole lot of medicines you can't get without a doctor's permission, especially painkillers, not to mention opiates and narcotics.

Nowadays, genetic modification is being required for government work.

It goes on and on. Abortion is just one more thing, nothing special for the state.

I hope no one imagines that abortion is a sacred thing in this secular world.

What? People do entire body modifications.

What are you talking about with genetic modifications for government work?

Should she have the right to remove this other "person" from her body if it's there without consent?
There is a real legal theory that says if you have consensual sex you have effectively consented to pregnancy.

That is an especially powerful consequence for the man who doesn't want to deal with child support for a baby he never wanted.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Yes, some COVID vaccines use genetic engineering. Get over it. - Alliance for Science
Perhaps I should have said genetic engineering.

"What mRNA vaccines do is prompt a few of your cells near the injection site to produce the spike protein. This then primes your immune system to build the antibodies and T-cells that will fight off the real coronavirus infection when it comes."

Some covid vaccines modify our cells to create the covid spike protein (so that we can learn to fight it).

However, I don't want to derail this topic, so I won't be defending "covid vaccines are genetic modification" any further. I could just as easily have said vaccination in the first place but that would be boring.

Tell that to my tattooed/pierced friends.

I've heard that getting a vasectomy without telling your wife is illegal somewhere in the US.

And for a woman, getting your tubes tied without your husband's permission is illegal in too many places in the US.

Unnecessary amputation is not allowed.

Are you suggesting saving the life of that 9 year old girl who needs a kidney is "unnecessary"?

What? Pro lifers deny what about past slavery in the south? Thats painting with a broad brush to say the least. Not to mention the accusation is nonsensical.

Some "pro-lifers" use the Southern US slavery issue to equate it ( and the 'status' that slaves were not considered to be people) just as embryos and fetuses today are not considered to be people. The equivalency to me is a false one because as I said, the Slavemaster did not have eat for the slave, nor excrete waste nor take oxygen into HIS body for the slave to survive. In addition, despite being viewed as subhumans, etc; due to prejudice, not reality, this concept was extrapolated to forget that slaves unlike embryos etc; had SENTIENCE. Born people regardless of brain damage have sentience- fetuses do not and this whole anti choice movement is rolling towards an intolerable theocratic dictatorship over Women's autonomy and sexual agency with NO equivalent dictatorship set upon heterosexual males. I apologize for repeating myself but you asked for clarity. Thank you for reading.

Personal Autonomy IS sacred to many people. The days of emptying one's self are over. People are learning if they have nothing saved of themselves- then they will cease to have anything to give. One should be allowed to live in the present, not in the past.

In all fairness, I think the point was we only needed 5... the extra 2 were a bonus.

I think the point was we are supposed to see judges making judicial decisions as an issue for some reason. I've never understood the rational behind that personally.

The only reason they have a say is because their mothers didn't follow their wishes
Do you think that it is mostly childless women who have abortions? Nowadays, there aren't very many women who have ten or more children. While birth control is widely available, for Catholics and those who believe bc is a sin, using bc would mean sinning every time they had sex rather than sinning once every few years.

Not without the Catholic vote they have manipulated for 50 years in the same way the Dems need the Black vote. Manipulators all, that always fall short on promises.

I have to say, I am amazed by the high number of trolls on this forum.

Does “meaningful conversation”= “be reasonable and see things my way”?
