I'm sorry to hear that you've had bad experiences on the web. You are probably quite wise to keep your location confidential. To be fair, i usually tell people that I'm in the south of England. I prefer not to provide more precise details.
Best way to go imo. There are some real loony tunes out there posting. I’m not calling you that of course but it’s better safe than sorry. You never know what people are going to do.

Well, you know more about football than The north has had some grim weather. Storm Arwen followed by fairly thick snow. In the south, things are less cataclysmic though lol. -10C is unimaginable to me though. The moment the temperature falls below 0c I start seriously contemplating hibernation

Dropping below zero you say? In Scandinavia that sometimes happen even in may. I agree with your overall sentiments though, and may I add that I kind of envy you guys. An average english winter is indeed fine and dandy :) I dont care for the "damped" weather you have all to often though :sigh:

Sun and blue skies here, but cold, Gusty wind to go along with it.
We are having high temps in the 40's and mid 50's, and frosts at least once or twice a week now.
The flocks of blackbirds are gathering on the tree limbs, and they are doing their best to uproot the trees by hanging on to the branches while exercising their wings. All in preparation for those long migration flights to come.

You still have the migratory birds hanging around? Over here they usually leave towards the end of september.

No big snow here yet, just a flurry so far, but it's gotten down to freezing most nights, and we have retreated indoors for everything mostly, and spending time by the fireplace.

I'm glad you mentioned that. Staying cozy in front of a fireplace is a real treat :) Especially if you add some wiskey and a good book to the equation ;)

Of course I had to query Celsius to Fahrenheit and meters to inches. Lol

That's exactly what I had in mind. Why havent we just standardized this mess already? Either we should go for fahrenheit or celsius. The two measurements operating in tandem makes my head hurt real bad :(

The Gulf of Mexico is a major player in My state’s climate. Southerly winds from the Gulf region readily transport warm, moist air into the state. This humid air collides with continental polar air brought southward by the jet stream from Canada. ... Air temperatures in my state have a wide range.

(Looked it up).

How cool. I love the variation and really dislike it when a weather system is kind of stuck for weeks or months at the time. Do you experience some nasty storms at times too?

Best way to go imo. There are some real loony tunes out there posting. I’m not calling you that of course but it’s better safe than sorry. You never know what people are going to do.

That's for sure. There are some real nutjobs out there for sure. Its better to be overly cautious than risk being reckless I suppose. Have you ever experience such behaviour here at CF, Michie?

I did once.someone got my address that wasn't supposed to have it, and kept on ordering guns and ammo, using my name but having it sent to them. It was wired!

Or worried! The company would send me e-mails saying that they delivered stuff, and it was on the porch, etc. When of course it wasn't on my porch!
But back on subject,
I live in the USA, down South, in the state occupied now by our current President.
Usually we get our first frost by Oct. 31, but this year it was late, so we've only had 3 nights so far that got down to freezing, tonight being the third such night.

We have subzero temps here. Not pleasant at all.

I know you were not talking to me. But no. Not here we don’t. But we have our tough birds. Starlings doing their murmurations which is one of my favorite things to gaze upon.

Strange isn’t it? It does not feel politically correct or unifying in any way. ;)

We have too many storms here that shut down power.

Several times. People love you, hate you, get obsessed over something or the other where you personally feel threatened or you feel like they are threatening your marriage. Crazy rumors, etc. so scary you contact the police or a lawyer. I mean, there have people that come back as sock puppets to continue their campaign. It’s really scary at times. People absolutely need to be extremely private with personal info on the internet. Even on Christian sites.

I teach a lot of Brazilian students. Their winters are brutal. 12c on average, with lows of perhaps 11c (I think the north round Amazonas is quite different though) It always makes me laugh when they appear looking a little miserable, complaining about the freezing weather haha. I use British winters as a reality check lol.

Is that lows of +11C? Ha!

You haven't lived until you have tried to start a car outside at -40. That's where Farenheit and Celsius thermometers read the same. Best to bring the battery in to warm up inside the house and try later when it's warmed up to -35.

Minus forty degrees celsius, for real?! Where did that happen?

I was then in Minneapolis Minnesota USA. I've seen -40 a few handful of times in my life. Only -25F last winter for me. And then it was only -10F for about a week. Piece of cake.

Weather like that would be a national emergency here!

Some things do tend to get cancelled. But life goes on. At least for hearty Scandinavians in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

That's some hardcore stuff, indeed. In my experience, proper cloathing only proves helpful down towards - 20 C or something. Below that, the only viable option left is to seek shelter and to wait it out inside. I belive we had minus 28 degrees celsius in 2009, and that weather system lasted throughout january. As I said though, Winter usually goes by with temperatures around minus 10 - 15 degrees celsius in the lowland.
At Svalbard, a research station located on an Island far up in the North Sea, they often have temperatures below thirty degrees. If you add the polar bears to the equation Id definitely say that its not my cup of tea :O

Yes, it would! I remember going to an Arsenal game in february a few years back. Well, I didnt actually get to see the game though as it was cancelled due to snow. I remember feeling quite puzzled. It was only like 5-10 cm of snow! It was apparently canceled due to the safety of the spectatores. To this day it feels odd. I mean, they considered that tiny amount og snow a real hazzard. With that in mind one could only Imagine how londoners would react to temperatures below minus twenty degrees celsius. Would probably declare a state of emergency, lol.

Did you fly over for the football? That's serious dedication! Probably gave you a pretty poor impression of the English. Our hooligans are world-renowned!

Yeah, I flew in to see them and have done several times in recent years (until the pandemic that is...). I'm still rooting for the gunners BIG TIME, but I was even worse a decade ago or so. Our long trophy draught has lowered my passion a bit. Flewing in isnt dedication, ink is. I have a couple of Arsenal tattoos :) Dont regret any of them, but wouldnt have gotten them today though. Its a part of my history and my once steadfast passion for the team.

As far as hooligans are concerned I've only experienced that side of british football once, and that was when I saw the Gunners at the Den. Lets just say that Millwall deserve their reputation, nasty rags...

Its fortunately NOT common behavior at Arsenal. Perhaps it has something to do with Arsenal being a north London club. Throughout its history, Arsenal has been known to be a upper middle class club. Millwall on the other hand...

What kind of bothers me the most whenever I'm in the UK is the constant need to pick on my english speaking skills. I consider my english skills to be more than good enough to communicate verbally, and it has always been elsewhere, but in the UK and especially in England people are kind of difficult on purpose. Lots of times they loath my accent. Norwegians usually adopts a american ring to their english, and I'm no exception. This seems to be something englishmen just have to "correct" and make an issue off each and every time I'm in England.

(By correction I'm referring to the constant need of playing an imbecile and NOT understanding what I'm trying to communicate. I used to travel a lot and England is literally the only place I've encountered this "issue".)

I would not fall into the trap of generalization though. I know too many decent and friendly englishmen to commit that error, but still it bugs me to no end.

Dont know about Chelsea, but I always presumed they where a working class club. Arsenal however has a trajectory of being linked with the upper classes of Society. If I remember correctly, I even believe that her royal highness Queen Elizabeth II once or twice admitted to be a Gooner at heart.

Only Arsenal makes the cut for the greatest Queen alive

Ouch. I'm in England. We had snow in parts of the country, temperatures fell to about -1 I believe. Comparatively mild I guess

I am in the Black Forest.
There I cannot see any snow today

I may be British, but i'm not a monarchist. Quite the opposite actually lol. I have a soft spot for Harry and Diana admittedly.
Chelsea is for the rich. Parts of it have a flavour of the riviera about them. I guess I connected the club with the area.
