Has anyone watched it, and if so, what did you think? I stopped watching after 15 minutes. The casting was pathetic as no one is like they are described in the books except for Rand who does have a resemblance. Mat is supposed to be a gambler, not crazed gambling addict. Heck, even the landscape is different from the books' description. It's like the producers just used the character and place names to make their own story. I'm very disappointed.

Not having read the books, I dont think physical resemblance is very important. What matters is getting the character traits and motivations. I realize that a different look can shock a reader tho.

My main problem is the writing is just blah. Its like they think contemporary YA-speak is necessary to hook the crucial young audience. I just find it detracts from the other-world mystery thats crucial to the fantasy genre. It draws us back into our here and now instead.

I have watched the first three episodes, I like them for a TV show. I was and am completely unfamiliar with the books, so my view is not really in line with them.

FWIW, the gambling aspect is really only in that one scene so far, it has not come up again. I have seen other, better TV shows, but as it goes it is a decent hour long show. There are not a lot of good fantasy shows out there as it is, so at least the production quality is good on this one, even if the dialog is a little lacking.

Sorry to hear that, OP. I've never read the books but know a lot of their fans were really looking forward to this series.
