Yes! A missionary witnessing abroad had several true tongue experiences like this one. Thanks for sharing this as I believe this is the only form of biblical tongues. Blessings.

Speaking of missionaries, here is a "true tongues" story from a missionary couple:

Truth,... any person's claim to a specific experience they've had from GOD has to be compared to what scripture actually says and teaches. We never accept a person's claim over GOD's word.

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

We don't talk in tongues to one another.

Acts 2:5-11 (NIV)

5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!

This is the part of scripture that people get wrong and then think that everyone speaking in tongues is somehow doing it wrong also.

Scripture has to agree with scripture, we don't accept one section of scripture on a subject and ignore another because we don't agree with it or like it. We have to understand how that particular scripture section from The Holy Spirit fits into the equation of the whole.

Like I posted the section in Corinthians, tongues is not understood by anyone down here, it has to be interpreted by the interpretation of tongues gift. That gift and the gift of prophesying is in human languages for our understanding,... so if they heard different dialects being spoken by them, it was by these two gifts, not tongues. This was why Peter stated the declaration from Joel,...

Act 2:17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:
Act 2:18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

Joel didn't say they would speak in tongues, he said prophesy, hence the gifts they heard in human languages was tongues with interpretation, which equaled prophecy, and the gift of prophesying.

We gotta remember, all 9 gifts of The Spirit were poured out at that point, not just tongues. Plus, Peter was a changed man at this event also, and began preaching, so the 5 fold gifts were poured out/available from Jesus also at this point.

The infilling of Holy Spirit is the source of ALL the gifts, they are not separate, Jesus received and grew in ALL the gifts, the 12 received and grew in ALL the gifts, we are to receive Holy Spirit infilling and grow in ALL the gifts. What He did in the past He can and is doing now, He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.
No "cessation", if we aren't receiving His gifting the trouble is NOT on His end.
best wishes

The first testimony clearly matches Acts 2, so I don't see any issues with it. The second testimony could be a case of gift of interpretation without gift of tongues. They spoke in their everyday languages, but the other person was able to understand what was said due to the gift of interpretation. That made the conversation between people who speak different languages possible.

That's not how it works my friend.

The interpretation gift operates in response to the gifts of tongues operating. It doesn't operate on it's own alone.

I only watched the first one and that was it. I don't know what sort of church she attends, but just because she heard someone speaking something behind her doesn't mean it was the tongues gift operating.

We have to trust scripture, not people. I think you will find that out in due time.

The interpretation gift operates in response to the gifts of tongues operating. It doesn't operate on it's own alone.

I would agree with this in most cases, but I wouldn't put God in a box. Perhaps this was not the "gift of interpretation" but a "miracle of interpretation" (I'm talking about the second testimony here). God certainly is sovereign and powerful enough to perform "miracles of interpretation" or whatever other miracles He may wish, even if you can't find an exact equivalent in Scripture. In fact, most miracles that Jesus performed are not found in Scripture, so we know that Scripture is not exhaustive in the supernatural arena.

I only watched the first one and that was it. I don't know what sort of church she attends, but just because she heard someone speaking something behind her doesn't mean it was the tongues gift operating.

What else could it have been? If the woman behind her didn't speak Spanish, but she heard her worshiping God with perfect Spanish, what other explanation could there be?

We have to trust scripture, not people. I think you will find that out in due time.

If there is no contradiction, I don't see any reason to drop the latter.
I'm starting to have flashbacks of my recent debate with swordsman1, who would dismiss pretty much all the testimonies from continuationists that I threw at him (he is a cessationist) :)

I don't know if technically it is "tongues" or not, but I had a friend that thought he was speaking in tongues during church. (i.e. he didn't know what he was saying.) A visiting family after the service came up to him and asked him how he knew Filipino. He said he didn't and they said he was praying in Filipino, much like the video experience.

Exactly. This is why the spiritual gifts are so needed. MANY people out there are superficial believers at nest, and eventually begin questioning their faith and asking if any of it is truly real or not. It is the gifts in manifestation that answer this question in the affirmative.

I once saw a CBN special one time where a similar thing happened. The man was Jewish, and he attended a service heard a bible believing Christian speaking in tongues in Hebrew. He went to the man and asked how he had learned to speak Hebrew, and the man was mystified. Then they both realized the believer was speaking in tongues.

Arbiter, in the video the woman was speaking to God and glorifying Him, just as the disciples were on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:11). But this is a sign to unbelievers who happen to hear it standing by. Those speaking in tongues were not speaking TO men, they were speaking to God, but it is a sign to unbelievers because they are able to hear it.

You know what,... I don't know.

Anyone can make a youtube video about things and spout all sorts of stuff on there,.... I can't rely on anything they may say in reference to Christian practices and doctrine,... I have to trust The Holy Spirit and His word.

Tongues is directed to GOD, and it's not understandable without the gift of interpretation. The section of scripture on this is really clear in it's understanding,... so that is what I stand by.

I agree. The 1 Corinthians 12 list includes "various tongues". This would include different types of tongues for different purposes. Paul's teaching concerning tongues was directed at the faults within the Corinthians church where tongues were being spoken in public services without interpretation. He was here describing two of the various types of tongues - public tongues for interpretation, and personal tongues for private devotions.

However, I don't believe what the missionaries received in order to make their preaching of the Gospel understandable, was actually an aspect of the gift of tongues designed for the body of Christ. It was more of a sign and a wonder to support the preaching of the Gospel. It was the supernatural endowment of the native language of the people or person they needed to preach the Gospel to. Usually it was a temporary facility to meet the specific need confronting the missionaries.

St Francis of Assisi met some French peasants to whom he wanted to share the Gospel, but he didn't know the French language. He prayed to God and found himself speaking fluent French to them. He didn't know what he was saying, but the peasants knew and they turned to Christ.

There is a testimony of a woman who was sent by the Lord to preach the Gospel in an Italian community where no one spoke English. She asked the Lord for help, and she found that she could speak and understand Italian. She retained the ability for the rest of her life.

But there were some in the early days of the Pentecostal movement who thought that seeing that they had received the gift of tongues, they could travel to places like China, use the gift and be understood by the inhabitants. Most returned home broke and disillusioned after total failure. This shows the difference between the gift of tongues designed for the body of Christ, and signs and wonders accompanying those who are sent by the Holy Spirit to witness for Christ in foreign countries.
