BRUSSELS, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Belgium is analysing two samples of COVID-19 to establish if they are the new coronavirus variant first detected in South Africa, a leading local virologist said on Friday.
Marc Van Ranst, whose laboratory works closely with Belgium's public health body Sciensano, made the comment on Twitter.
"We are currently analysing two suspicious samples," Van Ranst said.
Van Ranst later told Reuters that the samples were suspicious because they were not the Delta variant, which accounts for almost all infections in Belgium.
He added the results of the analysis should be known on Friday afternoon. (Reporting by Marine Strauss and Philip Blenkinsop)

Ah, you must not be a Florida resident like I am where hospitals were inundated with ICU Covid patients.
Nope, never was "overhyped", just plain facts.
That's why I stick to science-based sources.

No, more so that refuse to do non-vaccinated (non-phramaceutical) mitigation practices like masking up and since the virus can still spread to a certain extent through the vaccinated..well, then it's time to mask up.

Listen, if you refuse to vaccinated, the least you could do is mask up in public places.

It's always better to be overprepared ... than under prepared.
Hospitals across the country are still periodically reporting shortages in space and staff due to COVID, however.
You can have death.

Honestly ... there was not a chance that we could vaccinate enough people worldwide quickly enough ... to keep these variants from arising.
All you need is a pocket of population ... where the virus can circulate for a while ... and normal viral mutation will give rise to a new variant.
Nations can arm themselves against attack by the inevitable new variants by getting their populations vaccinated ... and/or by practicing social distancing and the wearing of masks, when appropriate ...

Honestly, because many of us have been going around in circles in these here forums...having already explained our stance on natural immunity, refuting that masks don't work, and vaccinations aren't 100% effective ad nauseum, that it's really not up for argument anymore.

This should be watched carefully, hopefully like the other post-Delta variants this may or may not gain traction, but we'll see.

Natural immunity, like vaccine-induced immunity, will ultimately decline.
At which point you decide again ... get the vaccine again ... or risk infection with COVID again ...

I was comforting a friend yesterday whose father aged 50, previously fit and healthy, has died of covid after it invaded his body.
Even in my family there are two who refuse vaccination.
This is tragic and senseless. Even God cannot help those who refuse to take the help on offer. What more can He do?
I've had all my jabs, including flu. I know there are no guarantees but if I get it, I know I have a chance. Far better than no chance at all.
This argument will go on but the deaths are happening. It is dangerous. No guarantees of natural immunity nor ongoing immunity without boosters.
