Perhaps He would be pleased
that we prayed for mercy for the dead
Who angered us in their lives
There was a fellow who
When I thought of him
I thought "Rest in Pieces"
If I pray for mercy for him
My prayers may or may not acquit him
But perhaps
They will acquit me
One seems a bit more Christlike
Than the other

Yes! Praying that you forgive someone who has caused you pain is exactly what we should do ! Thanks for sharing.

Maria Billingsley keeps asking what the prayer would be. When I pray for a dead person or persons, I simply pray that God saved them before they died. It is a prayer that God have maximum mercy and affect on them before they died. Since God knew I would pray that prayer before He created the world, then I in effect prayed for them before they died. We can't do time travel; God can. Since He is willing that none should perish but that all should come to repentance, then we can know that no one dies before they have a fair chance (or, probably, more than a fair chance) to repent before they die. He makes sure of this anyway. My prayer reminds Him. Also, when I am praying for one who has not died yet, I ask God to give them special grace and mercy and draw them to Him especially strongly before they die. Not only that, but I pray the same thing for those who have already died. God knew I would pray for them, back before they died. So, my prayer is that God give people a special dose of drawing them to Himself before they die. Past, present and future.
