Part 1.
Below is all I just took out of the book of Matthew, with regard to he following three questions...
Thought number one. Does it take faith to keep the sabbath, or the sabbath was given to Israel through the law, and not by faith ? ( What do the Pharisees show in the book of Matthew regarding this)
Number two. Is here any evidence of Jesus resting on the sabbath in this book of the Gospel ?
Consideration number three. Does Jesus call the disciples to labour with Him ( in secular work) or calls the disciples out of secular work to labour with Him ( in the work of the Lord) ?
The whole Gospel cant lie, right ? So we see Jesus teaching in the synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom to the people of Israel.
Jesus also points out ( to His disciples) to not be as the hypocrites who in the synagogues, love to stand praying to be seen of men.
Right away then, Jesus is showing how it is without faith that the people do things in the synagogues......
Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
The alms they gave in the synagogues, and the prayers they did showing to each other in the synagogues, layed up treasure on earth.
Jesus taught the disciples how that treasure of earthly service gets corrupted, and how the disciples had to do unlike those in the synagogues way of service, to instead lay up treasure to God ( and not to men) as where we devote our heart is where our treasure will be.
Jesus also teaches the disciples to have faith ( unlike those of the synagogues) to no longer do as those of the synagogues, to take thought for their lives, and to also do as the Gentiles do, but to first seek God and His righteousness....
Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Remember thought number two ?
All we observe is Jesus not resting on sabbath as all Israel does in the synagogues, see for a moment these other confirming verses, how Israel had Moses and the prophets, but heard them not, and were not persuaded by one rising from the dead, knowing not the Lord nor the voices of the prophets which are read to the people of Israel every sabbath day.
Acts 15 speaks of the tabernacle of David to be risen up in Christ, for the Gentiles ( Christ risen up to Heaven for us) and the Jews, the believers of Israel gave no rules of circumcision, of sabbath, of anything in the laws to Israel, but to keep from idols, and from fornication, from things strangled, and from blood. Saying how Moses is preached enough in every city from old time, and Moses ( the law) is read in the synagogues every sabbath day ( from old to the people of Israel in Judaism)
As their minds ( of Israel and in every city in the synagogues every sabbath day) are blinded until this day, and the vail ( of blindness) is untaken away in the reading of the old testament, when the vail is done away in Christ. When Moses is read ( from old time in every city in their synagogues on every sabbath day) the vail is upon their heart..
Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Acts 13:27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
Acts 15:19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
2 Corinthians 3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
That was background for us.
Now we know that Jesus went into the synagogues teaching Israel, who heard Moses and not Jesus. ( heard law and not faith)
But question three comes up now. Jesus speaks to His disciples, how the laborers ( with Christ) are few, and more workers were required to do the same as Jesus.
Then we see Jesus sending forth those disciples to labour the same as Jesus, to go and to preach and to say the kingdom of haven is at hand.
Jesus confirms that the same experience Jesus had teaching Israel in their synagogues, the disciples will experience. To be scourged in their synagogues....
Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Matthew 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
So the answers are all told clearly, Jesus taught to Israel working as the High priest, and the disciples worked with Jesus preaching too. Both did not rest then on the sabbaths, but we see always they taught the people, precisely on all of those sabbaths.
To not deny Christ ( as the people on the sabbaths and in the synagogues were denying) and to take their cross to follow Jesus, to lose their lives to find it again, all is for the sake of Christ, the gospel and the kingdom of heaven, and when they taught in the works of God, they received the Son and then the Father, when anyone received the disciples word of faith....
Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
