Bodidily,

I think you are still not seeing the simple grammar truth here.

The entire verse 11 deals with one subject "you". So how in the world can Christ baptise "you" with the Holy Spirit and then with the fires of hell???!!!

John is taling about Jesus and his ministry. He says 2 things here: 1. that Jesus will baptise with something even better. 2. He has will separate believers from non-believers / goats fromteh sheep / chaff from the wheat etc.

you are simply taking 2 and tying it to the fire of 1 when the two are unrelated in subject.

this will be my final post as i find it silly to be arguing over and over, over simple English.

I know you said you wouldn't post again but you have to help me out here.  You continue to avoid what John says after.  How do you explain that statement?  Also, your 'simple grammar' as you call it is a little misguided.  The word 'you' can refer to one person or a group of people.  In this case it is a group of people.  And just who is the you?  Remember, John was speaking to Pharisees and Sadducees.  You claim that this entire statement of John's was fulfilled on the day of Pentacost.  Please tell me where the Pharisees and Sadducees were on that day when the Holy Spirit came!

This statement is true.  But what will happen to the chaff?  John tells us in Matt 3:12.  They will be burned up in unquenchable fire.  How can you take this verse as not having anything to do with the fire mentioned in the previous verse?  And please make note that what happened on the Day of Pentacost was NOT fire.  It said "And there appeared to them tongues as of fire..."  Again, it says AS OF FIRE.  This means it was like fire or had the appearance of fire but it WAS NOT fire!

Huh?  This makes no sense at all.  I think maybe your idea of not trying to continue to discuss this issue might be best.  Please try to read these verses again.

Sorry Bo that you are getting totally different answers about your question it is obvious that the Christain faith is not one on a lot of issues.

The baptism in fire is a great thing and I can only say, ask God for all he's got for you and be willing to accept it how ever it comes and you will grow beyond belief. Accept God on his terms and not yours and you will be amazed how awesome our God is. The bible says we should be for the gifts of the spirit.
