Good morning!

This is something I've wondered about, and have heard different viewpoints on.

While the extreme sandstorms were happening over in Iraq, my hubby said, "that's a God thing"...in passing comment.  I thought about it for a minute and said, "but satan is the prince of this world, wouldn't he have control over the weather?" (honestly, I don't even like typing that name....it makes me want to go take a shower..ick).

There could be two different philosophy's regarding that particular event (sandstorm);

One would be, God was causing the sandstorm to happen, to intentionally slow the coalition forces down for some unforseen reason, or maybe something as simple as causing them to have to get some rest and something to eat.

Two, satan (ick again) caused it because he's getting beat and it's ticking him off (Ha!).  He doesn't want Saddam to lose power, because then he'll lose his grip on that particular area.

So, what are the viewpoints here?  Of course, naturally, biblical references are most welcome :)

This should be a fun one! :)

I too thought about the sandstorms in Iraq...how ironic!!!

Yes, Satan indeed can cause havoc in the weather systems, but remember it is always God who has ultimate control on how far Satan goes. There is always an ultimate purpose for temporary trials that we don't always see this side of mortal life. I tell myself this constantly so I don't become discouraged and loose heart. This is nothing more Satan wants than a discouraged Christian for then that solider is rendered useless and can no longer fight the good fight.

Your husband is correct..God controls all the weather..

Job 37:6 For he saith to the snow, Be thou [on] the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength
_
_ Job 38:22__ Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

Psa 148:8__ Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

Hsa 6:3 Then shall we know, [if] we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter [and] former rain unto the earth.

Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

I CONTROL THE WEATHER!!!! MUHAHAHAHAA :D

No, actually I don't think anyone does. Maybe God would sometimes, if he exist, but I think he would be fed up controlling it all the time, when it's such a nice cyclus and work so well alone. Weather really makes me peacefull though, and I don't even like statements as 'fighting the weather'. When I'm in a good storm, I more like feel I want to listen. In the sea, become one with the water. In a snowstorm, go out on ski and feel the storm on my body, on my soul. In rain, go out on the beach on the night and just listen and think.
Weather makes me peacefull, I think if I were in a war with powerful weather, it would make me more silent and calm. I love the Nature. Duh! Not so hard to explain since I live here ;)

I wish people would stop fighting the weather so much, start listening to it, and cooperate. I hope at least we don't start messing too much with the weather too. It's enough with all the ground we damage.

I'm going to read Filipe Fernandez-Armesto's Civilizations soon, were he confine civilizations and how good they really are to how well they live with the rest of the nature. Let's just say, us westerners go really terrible on that scale.

He is like a dog on a leash...

To add to that, God has power to control everything. And since Satan is the prince of the earth, he is thus able to control what's on earth, including the weather. So he can do everything he wants BUT God makes sure he doesn't go too far. He allowed satan to destroy Job's household but not end his life. So similarly, He has control over satan in whatever he does.

"And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. " Job 1:12

I tend to think that God gives Satan control of weather in certain circumstances where He sees fit. But has full authority to rule over what Satan does any time He wants.

Also in reference to the "prince of this world" thing.... Jews would consider the sky as part of "the heavens." So for whatever that's worth...

For Scripture references to why I believe this way:

James*5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.
James*5:18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

---Satan doesn't answer prayers

Job*1:16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

Job*1:18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,
Job*1:19 and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

---Satan was given authority to harm Job's possesions and family....

(And already mentioned eariler)
Matt*8:26 He *said to them, "Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm.

---Jesus took authority over the winds and sea regardless of who was in control first. It could easily have been that He told that storm to come just so that He could test the disciples faith in it, and then rebuke it to show them that He was who He was. It's very possible :)

Well my thoughts... have a great day! :D
