The trouble is that very few actually imitate the Apostles. They boldly preached the Gospel in all parts of the known world, and they ended up paying with their lives, sometimes in the most brutal ways. These days, our preachers of the Gospel will only preach if things are safe and they don't have to go in harm's way. Today's real heroes of the Gospel are those who go into Muslim countries at the risk of their lives, but boldly preach the Gospel anyway.

Yep. He went to the Cross and died a very brutal and painful death. Are we prepared to take up our cross in the same way? That is what following Jesus is all about.

I liked your post, and I've quoted this section to comment on.

One of the things I've watched a lot of these churches do nowadays Oscarr is attempt to call The Holy Spirit into a place. They think that it is GOD The Holy Spirit that does healing, so they want to call upon Him to provide healing to the people in their churches,........ not a person.

The problem with this, is that obviously The Father never healed that way, He always healed through Jesus. It took Jesus laying hands upon people, or Jesus declaring a healing to happen, or it even took the power of GOD moving through Jesus to heal a woman of a blood issue when she touched the hem of His garment.

When we look at the apostles, people were lining up and waiting for Peter to pass by so that they might be healed by the power of GOD flowing through Peter. They also called upon Peter to come into a region and restore the life to a young woman whom they all loved.

There is never a moment in scripture where The Holy Spirit decided to heal a person by Himself, GOD always works through people who have His anointing and the power of The Holy Spirit is resting upon them for such events.

It's like Christians nowadays are more apt to listen to these Bethel Christians on youtube and whatnot instead of seek answers directly from Jesus Himself. For whatever reason, they don't believe that a person can be used by GOD for such powerful things, they wanna try to pray for GOD's mercy in a situation instead, which is absolutely wrong. Christians operate in grace, not mercy. Mercy is for unbelievers.

Christians have become quite dumb to the gifts of The Spirit lately, they don't have a clue.

ARBITER01 ... Gosh haven't people been busy on this post : I just wanted to find those who have received the Holy Ghost with the biblical evidence of speaking in tongues ! those who know what its all about, not a huge religious type argument.

Your details state your Pentecostal !? I use that term with great care for many use it like born again and Christian etc well I guess they can call themselves Napoleon Bonaparte if they wish !

Its quite simple really , Jesus said..
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

he's warning his disciples against religious types you cant get this but by the infilling of the Holy Spirit ,so they will know who is real or no.

Look in acts how they received many times mentions tongues as they are realy BORN AGAIN cries out in Gods language given by Grace etc and COMMANDED by Jesus (john4v24) etc

but they only have a carnal approach 2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
beware..2Co 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or [if] ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with [him].

and so many are confused with how your church (people not a building) is to be run. Corinthians. How they have max 3 tongues ; corrasponding interpretation and 2 to 3 prophecy without tongues ? and yes its a least gift because all can do it. Its for private direct prayer GODS WAY.

Hi Saint John! One thing I have noted is that often when people quote Mark 16:16-17 they never quote verse 14:

14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

So already we can see a context forming, Jesus was speaking to the 11 apostles.

I believe in speaking in tongues, but we've got to keep things in line with scripture.

Matthew 10 is another passage that is selectively quoted, verse one never seems to feature: Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

Thank you Lismore for your comment; Yes he is also WARNING them about false self called believers (not really believing Gods way) who are so lost in there own Theology ,Philosophy etc zealous to varying degrees ( as Saul was before his conversion ) totally carnal and opposed to Gods ways as they are today.

To tell people they are OK the way they are or just faith or grace or confess ; make a decision etc its ALL the full Gospel cant pick and choose or it is against God / Christ this is anti Christ !!

As instructed an individual MUST Repent (baby's cant man made !){ especially from religious views);
be Baptized ( Greek= immersion dip full under ,symbol of burial) and God sees your little act of obedience (and attitude) and makes Real contact and gives the Holy Spirit.

Ro 8:9 ... Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Not a Christian at all. And as shown the residual effect of receiving is there in Mark 16 signs ( all given by God) and the first thing as a babe in Christ (born again) the Spirit cries out to God with the language God gives to worship him as "commanded" by Jesus Christ. As previously stated..

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

So many times as the church begins in the book of acts (2v4 etc) tongues is the predominant way of recognizing there infilling: all most have is a carnal approach (you can tell..eg think the thief on the cross went to heaven !?).So many think Humanitarianism is the way ( good traits to have but not enough without the Spirit ) as there are many "NICE, KIND" types around who will go out of the way to help etc and don't even know there is a God.

People don't realize we are in a time of Grace where all may come to KNOW him (his way); once this is over...

Mt 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Has anyone heard of the flood or Sodom and Gomorrah do they think the women and children escaped !?
its the same God but they want there fairy tales not Gods prescribed way.
