I do not believe that the AR has committed any crimes or that it is an outlaw or that it should be outlawed, that can not be said for everyone who has used it however, we need to stop blaming the gun for the acts of the people.

Back in the day the homicide rate was 25%... when Cain killed Abel. I think an AR was used then.

I pretty consistanly see self defense and target, I suppose "Target" could include pure recreation in addition to competition, there are also hunting applications for ther AR style.

No, however, here in Canada, mine has been. For the last almost three years, it sits in the back corner of my gun safe, and has not seen the light of day. I built it from an unfinished lower and upper set, it is rifle length AR with a 20" barrel, it shoots like a laser with virtually no recoil... but no longer. Now I wait to see if there is a buy-back or simply an order to surrender. I had a lot of ammo, so I bought a Handi Rifle in .223; it shoots well, but it is just not the same.

BTW, I don't consider them a self defense gun; pistols and short shot-guns are better for that, but for target and hunting small game; perfect.

Know that you are not alone. Just 100 round magazines; for us anything over 10 for Pistols and over 5 for semi-auto are prohibited, and have been since the 90's.

Thing is despite the prohibitions and bans, gun crime continues to rise, just as it has in Australia. Liberals scare the ignorant masses, then do superfluous acts to buy votes; the only ones who's life improves are the liberals when re-elected by the stupid.

Who cares if it's outlawed? I have guns. I don't have an AR-15, and yet somehow, nothing is lacking. Why should I need one? Am I going to war?

You never hunted Coyotes with dogs I assume. Back when we still could, I did. Not a better Coyote gun ever built. Way better than the Mini-14 (now also banned up here, but no loss).

No, I haven't. I've heard they're good for hogs, too, which can be a real danger and nuisance in groups.

Isn't the AR-15 basically a weapon for warfare? I could use a grenade for fishing (blast fishing) and bring in a pretty good haul, but that doesn't mean folks should have grenades.

I don't know. I'm not interested in shooting people, I feel confident that the arms I have are more than sufficient for food acquisition, so I'm not sure why I should support the legal possession of military style weapons.

By the by, I don't accept the slippery slope claim that if they outlaw AR-15s, the rest of our guns go, too. Informal fallacies are not my go-to reasoning tool. But I am interested in any well formed argument for why civilians should have military style weapons.

I think AR-15s AK47s, Glock 17, Tec-9, and all of those high capacity magazines should be at least highly regulated.

Personally, I would like to see everything banned but revolvers and hunting rifles but that's not realistic. There are so many weapons out there already that it would be impossible to recall all of that weaponry.

I think we tend to pick apart the 2nd amendment not consider the part about "A well-regulated militia. Also when the amendment was made, they were using muskets.

While massive amounts of guns and ammo are creepy to me, we know that nobody can take over an armed population so there is that.

The only other thing is that the vast majority of illegal guns were purchased legally and were sold or stolen so tons of guns end up in the wrong hands.
