I started watching a new Netflix horror series Midnight Mass. In the series, Catholic families and a Catholic parish are featured pretty prominently in the series hence the name. One of the things I was impressed by was that the show really delved into spiritual side of things more than what is normally done in most television, and that the writers actually know the faith or at least have done their homework ;because, a lot of times it is quite obvious to me that they only have a very superficial understanding of Christianity, let alone understand the differences of various Faith traditions within Christianity. So anyway the show has a lot more Catholicism than your average TV show, but of course since this is suppose to be some kind of horror / supernatural thriller from Netflix don't expect it to be like something from a Catholic Network like EWTN where the Gospel and dogma etc. is the main point.

The series has parental warnings of language, gore, violence and smoking.

I will note the show seems to makes a big ooopsie when it comes to Ash Wednesday. Which should be in February in winter time. The show has people getting the ashes, around Easter, and then going to a big church Pot luck outside with the ashes on their head etc. Which I don't think would happen etc. penance and fasting times, usually conflict with most things like Pot lucks etc. In the Coptic Church we have our Agapes during certain times of Lent, especially around Holy Week, Summer time etc. where you can find something like falafel, fish etc. served, but it looked to me glancing at the table they had lots of stuff like fried chicken etc. that wouldn't fit an agape type dinner during fast time.

If I could handle scary movies, I would check it out…but right now…I don’t think it would be beneficial lol

however. That being said, if I do get in the mood for a horror series, it’s next on my watchlist.

I have watched the first several episodes, I wouldn't describe it as scary (at least not yet anyway), but more mystery so far. I don't generally do scary/horror simply because it's not really what I enjoy. I was impressed by the show's commitment to at least make an effort to depict Catholicism in a deeper light than what shows often do. The Muslim character also is given more depth, which I thought was quite nice. Most shows and movies do an absolutely horrendous job of depicting religion of any kind except in the most superficial way, so kudos to the people behind the show for putting in a little bit of effort.

Be one thing if it was a doc yet in my view not something a believer should ever be watching. Why? Gives no glory no praise to the king of kings lord of lord. As He would say "no life in it". Then to know God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind. So if fear is what its about.. and we then watch it anyway. :)

It sounds like you're the one living in fear rather than in the power of God's love and sobriety of mind.

That's what pointlessly moralizing everything does. It warps the mind toward fear.

I don't watch Netflix anymore aside from Seinfeld now that Netflix has the rights to it. Most of Netflix's in-house productions are thinly-veiled liberal propaganda and the Obamas own a Netflix production company to spread said propaganda, so I as a rule pretty much avoid Netflix the way that I avoid Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, and John Oliver's propaganda dressed up as "comedy".

When I want to watch a "Late night" style show, I watch or listen to Louder with Crowder.

I have seen about 4 or 5 of them now and I was surprised at the character development and what it is doing with perceptions of good and evil. The main character and his secretary ( or whatever. Dare I say liturgist?) mistake darkness for some kind of divine action, mistake a vampire for and angel of God. And then continue to justify the disastrous outcomes. It is amazing how they twist so much scripture to justify their situation. I am wondering who will be the hero, if there is one. The doctor's mother? But she is already infected. The sheriff?
It is not really scary except that we see how easily people can be deceived. That is always scary.

2 more episodes to go.
