Good Morning,

After the way the COVID thread went and the direction I've seen TAW take, I've really tried not to post here. It's a shame because I miss so many people and have really wanted to be here. However, I'm really uncomfortable with the degree to which some posters have gone to create a place where the subject cannot be discussed without feeling like heretics and friends of the harlot of Babylon for being vaccinated or masked. So, I'm definitely done talking about it. I don't think I'll have much more to say as what I say is laughed at or cast off.

But I'm breaking my silence to ask for prayers from folks like Father Matt, Laura, Anhelyna, and so many other buddies. My dad fell exactly one week ago and BADLY broke his hip. It was a very profound break and we discovered he had a ton of osteoporosis in his bones as well that helped make the bone snap possible. He fell in his living room and it was nasty. My dad is a 74-year-old Vietnam vet, a tough guy. I'm 46, and in my 46 years I have never heard him cry out, complain, or admit to pain. I've seen him go through heavy surgery, he's fallen off of electrical poles, had knee surgery, cut himself open severely, you name it. He's been through the mill in his life. But when he fell, he cried out and was in so much pain. He is a tall (not fat) guy. 6'5" like me. The ambulance guys couldn't get him into the ambulance without killing him with pain, so they called the fire department. It was horrible. It traumatized my mom. The hip was not only broken, but heavily dislodged. I saw them prepping him for surgery and he cried and begged the RN's for mercy and was so desperate. I stood there crying for the first time in years. It was horrific.

After surgery, his pain went through the roof and he was "supposed" to walk on it the following day. No such luck. The next day, no such luck. Fast forward to day seven since the accident....no such luck.

My dad is now in a temporary convalescent hospital recovering and rehabbing. It's slow going and the projection is possibly 3, maybe even 4, weeks until he can get out and go home.

Meanwhile, my mom is at home with Parkinson's and mobility issues. My wife and I are living between my mom and dad after work and we're all hanging in there. It's hard though. My own back pain and other issues are exacerbated right now. I'm managing stress through our faith and prayer. My kids are helping out also.

I'm asking for prayers for William (dad) and Sally (mom). The biggest problem right now is they love and miss each other. They're both depressed about being apart. It's really beating them up. My mom emotionally is hurting with ups and downs.

I want my dad out of that place as soon as humanly possible. Thankfully, I have a wife who is a Nurse Practitioner who looks in on him and checks wound status, vitals, meds, and overall condition. Thank God for Kate!

I miss everyone, even the people here who think me a COVID heretic. I'd love to put aside the rancor for a while. I came in here today and wanted to post and still saw another person starting a COVID thread. So frustrating. I've wanted to post in here asking for prayers for a week now but felt just uncomfortable. To my online Orthodox buddies, please pray for our family if you don't mind.

Gurney - I understand your feelings.

Your poor father - this is so frustrating for you all -- prayers for his recovery and his return home

Prayers for your mother - she must be totally bewildered by all this.

Prayers as well for you and Kate - as you go from caring for one to the other. It must be roughly non-stop and you need also to look after yourselves

Lord have mercy on andrew, father matt, and Laura

Yeah I spent less time on forums, they tend to distract from our spiritual lives, and have become sort of toxic for civil discourse in modern society, and it slips into the church.

Anyways I understand how you feel, I'm just slowly coming out of a nasty burnout stage myself, the closing of churches really was hurtful, I struggled with zoom services, and what I felt was hypocrisy by the heirarchs (ie - "the eucharist is the blood and body of Christ" , " unless it a emergency please dont come get it , there a pandemic, thanks" or "you must be in church on Sunday, it for your salvation, please dont come there a virus, even if the lord commands us to his table when he calls us" a lot of good people left, and arent coming back, a lot of them now are the growing bones or just nominal. WE can no longer say Orthodoxy isnt in decline like the mainline Protestants, evangelicals , and Roman Catholics, etc.

I am also bothered like you, about the american style modern culture wars of mask vs no mask, vaxxer vs anti-vaxxer has seeped into the church. I been pretty far-right myself, against abortion, no tolerance for sodomy, second ammendment, leaving education up to the local community of churches, parents, individuals, total for a healthy interpretation of Church and state, not the lose liberal one, where church has no role, etc. However I been bothered by the GOP descent into racial ethno nationalism , a anon, stop the steal, anti-vaxx, anti-mask lunacy, it hard for a social conservative there days, I feel your pain bruney. Hang in there buddy , it tough times for us believers, and the church, this whole experience of poltical culture wars, and american style polarization , has made me second guess if we need a fully American Orthodox Church, if it going to look like the church of Qanon with sacraments and liturgy added to it. A nice healthy mix of cradle and convert is needed but the cradles are dying off , or leaving to joint the world out there, much prayers to your family buddy, Remember the Jesus Prayer , when times get rough, dig into Holy scripture, and and the sayings of the fathers, they been through even more than a lot of us.

@gurneyhalleck1 Special prayers for you and Kate as well during this time. Taking care of family and seeing them go through such tough times can be physically and emotionally debilitating. God bless you both for your care and love for them.

I am praying for a swift recovery for your father with his hip injuries and continual comfort and healing for your mother. I also pray that they are able to be reunited quickly.

I am also praying that this doesn’t exacerbate the medical conditions you are currently experiencing - and am praying that you can have peaceful sleep and that you find relief from the medical issues that you currently have.

Also, your children are also in my prayers, as I know these things can be extremely difficult for the entire family.

Lord have mercy! :crosseo:

Lord, have mercy!
For what it's worth, I have also been censored around here. (One reason I almost never appeal to authorities on this site)
Through the prayers of St Pantaleimon, may swift healing be granted to your father, and help to your family!

Gurney you, and your parents certainly have my prayers. From my own experiences I know that watching our parents get older, and things begin to happen with their health isn't for the meek of heart. You're quite blessed that your wife is able to ensure they're receiving proper care as I found that it was apparent that my Mother wasn't receiving proper care in some of the rehabilitation centers in my area.

Lord have mercy!
