Everything is according to God's timing, just as Jesus' return will be. Other than that a family linage had to be filled out from creation to Mary and Joseph who were the right people up to the task. And Mary had the right seed.
But why that timing?
And why was only Mary suitable?
And it still leaves the ultimate question of the death. Was there no other way?

The blood ! It's the blood of life God deemed to be the complete atonement for sin. Another way besides God's way ? That's another religion not to mention gospel.

You would be much better served to accept God's plan and start basking in it, because it's your salvation.

Was it just the blood? I still wonder why a man dying on a cross means mankind is freed from death. You have to wonder why he couldn't find a better way. Does that not grab you?

I had my wrestling match with this years ago. Concluded I was wrestling with God. And that's foolishness.

He wasn't just man ! But He died on the cross to take away the sin of mankind to all who would come to Him and believe.

Why did Jesus die on the cross?
Why so late in time?
Hello Robert, I'll try to let the Scriptures answer your questions whenever I can. So, here are some of the reasons that the Lord Jesus died on the Cross.

1) To save us by being the atoning sacrifice for our sins (to make it possible for them to be forgiven), and to free us, not only from the penalty of sin (in the age to come), but from the power that sin holds over us in this life.

2) To reconcile us to our "Enemy" (see v10 below), and to save us thereby from His wrath (in the eternity to come).

Romans 5
8 God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Hebrews 9
22 All things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Hebrews 10
4 It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
.
As for why God sent His Son here when He did, the Bible doesn't tell us specifically, except that it was in "the fullness of time" (or paraphrased, "in God's perfect timing"). Here's an excerpt from one of my commentaries that I believe explains it pretty well.

4. the fullness of the time—namely, “the time appointed by the Father” (Ga 4:2). Compare Note, see on Eph 1:10; Lu 1:57; Ac 2:1; Ez 5:2. “The Church has its own ages” [BENGEL]. God does nothing prematurely, but, foreseeing the end from the beginning .. Isaiah 46:9-10, waits till all is ripe for the execution of His purpose. Had Christ come directly after the fall, the enormity and deadly fruits of sin would not have been realized fully by man, so as to feel his desperate state and need of a Saviour .. cf Galatians 3:21-24.

Sin was fully developed. Man’s inability to save himself by obedience to the law, whether that of Moses, or that of conscience, was completely manifested; all the prophecies of various ages found their common center in this particular time: and Providence, by various arrangements in the social and political, as well as the moral world, had fully prepared the way for the coming Redeemer. God often permits physical evil long before he teaches the remedy. The smallpox had for long committed its ravages before inoculation, and then vaccination, was discovered. It was essential to the honor of God’s law to permit evil long before He revealed the full remedy. Compare “the set time” (Ps 102:13).
~Jamieson, R., Fausset, A. R., & Brown, D. (1997). Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible (Vol. 2, p. 332).

Galatians 4
4 When the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

I hope that is at least somewhat helpful. There is more concerning both of your questions, and if you like to hear more (and/or if you have any additional questions), just ask away.

God bless you!

--David

Hello.
Why did Jesus die on the cross?
Why so late in time?

Take time to think on these things and ask Him why. First I have to say for the past two days this has been on my heart and keeps popping up. Just got a email saying for GOD so loved the world. Seems Hes talking to me :) From the start Satan was a murderer for the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Christ) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Our Father has had a plan before this all was haha. Well why did He wait 3 days to rise? Why is He waiting so long before He comes again?

The Fall of Adam and Eve, Wait 2000 years. The Call of Abraham. Wait 500 years. Giving the Law to Moses at Mt. Sinai. Wait 1500 Years. Ministry of Jesus. Wait 2000+ Years, (in the Future) The Second Coming of Jesus, The New Heavens and New Earth.

Was it, has it really been that long? To us but to God its only been days :) 1000 years are to God as one day. Someone said we would have rather had "The Fall of Adam and Eve, Wait 20 minutes, The Death and Resurrection of Jesus,
Eternal Bliss. Some say the reason God waited so long to send Christ was to teach humanity about the depth of our sin or to teach the angels about God’s redemptive purpose and its only seems long to us. Or to wait until the time when the Gospel could spread the quickest. Maybe Christ came when He did to fulfill prophecy. To wait until human theological development had evolved to the point where we could understand Jesus.

Take salvation.. we truly do not fully understand it nor will we until this is over. We know the Angels wonder about this.. can not GOD just tell them :) So much more going on here.. but its AWESOME!

Hello.
Why did Jesus die on the cross?
Why so late in time?

It was to fulfill the New Covenant promised in the Old Testament.

Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.

Can we prove that Jesus is the Messiah promised in the Old Testament Hebrew Scriptures?

Adapted from the book… “The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict” by Josh McDowell.

Josh McDowell set out to prove that Christianity was false.

Because of what he found in his research, he became a Christian.

The same thing happened to C.S. Lewis, and Lee Stroebel.

The probability of any man fulfilling just 8 of these is 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. (17 zeros)

Hello.
Why did Jesus die on the cross?
Why so late in time?

Simply I believe to teach us to believe Gods' Word and to reveal God's plan of salvation on behalf of all mankind. Let me explain simply. According to the scriptures when we sinned we were separated from God and removed from His presence *Isaiah 59:2 and this separation brings the penalty of death *Romans 6:23 and all of us have sinned starting with Adam and Eve (see also Romans 3:9-19).

The old covenant scriptures and prophetic laws for remission of sins were to teach us Gods' plan of salvation that was to be revealed in Christ and that when we sin we are under the penalty of death and that our sins will cause us to die unless a substitute for sin can be found. The old covenant sacrificial system teaches us that when we sin the wages or penalty of sin is always death. In order to receive Gods' forgiveness God's people had to provide a substitute for their sins and death in animal sacrifices and sin offerings to pay the penalty for their own sins and to atone for their sins and be reconciled to God.

These old covenant "shadow laws" of course was all prophetic in nature teaching us the true meaning of God's plan of salvation to be revealed under the new covenant revealed in Christ and showing us that God so loved our world that he gave us His only begotten sin that whosoever believes (Greek is believing on him - present tense) on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Now, instead of us having to die for our own sins, God so loved our world that he gave us he only begotten son in Jesus who choose to die on our behalf and pay the penalty for our sins as a free gift of Gods' love, mercy and grace in exchange for whosoever simply holds out the hand of faith and believes on him can be brought back to God and receive everlasting life.

Jesus purchased our sins with His own blood and paid for our sins through his death as our substitute for sin and death, God's own son choose to come into our world and go in our place as the sinless lamb of God *John 1:29; John 1:36: Hebrews 10:10 and die for our sins so that we can be redeemed and brought back to God. This is what the old covenant laws teach (Levitical Priesthood, Sanctuary, laws of animal sacrifices and sin offerings, annual Feast days). These all pointed to Jesus as the coming Messiah and God's sacrifice for the sins of the world to pay the penalty for our sins to reveal God's great mercy love and grace for all those who choose to believe on him and accept the gift of God's dear son through faith.

Hope this is helpful.
